Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Hahn did it. I’m impressed. And a Boras client no less.

Computerized strike zone is coming
Yep. ?

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Why would anyone be a big fan of a guy who predicted one trade that didn’t even happen? Funny stuff.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
I hope this isn’t Merkin speaking for the front office.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
You are comparing apples and oranges. Desmond’s $25 million for the next two years is hardly a contract that the Rockies desperately need to dump that they would include a good cheap starter like Gray. Meanwhile, Price is owed $96 million and the Red Sox are in luxury tax hell. The Rockies are not in the same situation. I agree with Dick Allen. This isn’t a realistic trade.

Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread
The Tigers signed both C.J. Cron and Jonathan Schoop. Trying to copy the Twins success? Hilarious.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
You may need to read up more on luxury tax penalties. It gets worse from the first year a team is over, to the second, and to the third. The penalties get pretty harsh... https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/mlb-rumors-red-sox-are-track-pay-over-13-million-luxury-tax

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
I still would love a Price / Benintendi trade over a Ryu / Keuchel signing, if it’s reasonable. I still wouldn’t give up any names greater than Collins and Rutherford and Boston would also have to send a lot of cash back. Hahn could improve the rotation, lineup (and DH spot), and outfield defense, all in one move. Then, just add a reliever or two. Sox win the division.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
Likely his age (34) and low number of innings pitched last year (87.1). He hit the injured list with the Brewers in June with dead arm. But for what could be 1/$6 or 2/$13 million dollars, this deal looks way better than the Nova acquisition last year.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Seriously. This is why no one should be questioning the Sox being all in this offseason and spending money. The Royals and Tigers both suck. The Indians have just started their pump and dump rebuild. The division is there for the taking with only the Twins looking like legitimate contention, and even their season last year could be considered a bit fluky.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
For $7 million, they could bring him back as a reliever/swingman. Still not too expensive.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
Now use all the money saved on Mazara and Gio and throw it at Ryu/Keuchel. I’m sure Hahn can wait on relief pitching and a bench bat and still find some decent cheap options.

Nice and cheap. Nice cheap option for next year.

Sox In on Lindor? Crackpot Rumor?
Sounds like Lindor might actually be traded... https://theathletic.com/1475874/2019/12/19/rosenthal-donaldson-sweepstakes-update-lindor-talks-reaching-critical-stage-mets-not-too-motivated-on-marte/ Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic writes that the Indians are telling clubs interested in trading for Francisco Lindor that "they want each team’s best and final offers so they can make an assessment over the weekend."

What would it take to get Nolan Arenado?
Agreed. If Cease figures out his control, he’s worth Cole money with his stuff. I wouldn’t trade him for an expensive 3B with weak road numbers.

Way past their prime as Pale Hose
Adam Dunn was signed at age 31 with ridiculous OPS numbers every year of his career. He was not washed up when he was signed but for whatever reason, he fell apart as a hitter when he came to the Sox and the A.L.

Sox In on Lindor? Crackpot Rumor?
No, he’s stinky alright.
-
Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
I would temper your excitement a bit. Pretty funny how the article states that the Sox are still looking at Ryu/Keuchel even after signing Gio Gonzalez, and then they proceed to reference an MLB.com article from yesterday, before Gio was even signed. These NBC Sports news articles are no better than New York Post articles.

Sox In on Lindor? Crackpot Rumor?
I don’t think anyone here wouldn’t want Lindor. They just realize a division rival isn’t trading him to the Sox and the Sox wouldn’t be willing to give up the prospects it would take to get a trade done. The Indians supposedly asked the Dodgers for Gavin Lux and Dustin May for Lindor. The Sox aren’t matching that ask.

Sox In on Lindor? Crackpot Rumor?
The ESPN clowns are always behind on things.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
He usually lasts around 5 innings but he throws more than 70 pitches. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=gonzagi01&t=p&year=2019

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
It also makes a lot more sense that his agent wasn’t Boras with the Sox signing him. https://mobile.twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1119266410507702272

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
Damn, I guess that’s not surprising. Spotrac is never up-to-date.

White Sox sign Gio Gonzalez
By the way, Gio is actually a Boras client. Obviously this doesn’t mean as much when signing old vets to cheap one year deals but maybe this helps grease the wheels to a bigger Ryu / Keuchel signing?
