Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread
Yes, IMO there’s no logical reason Ryu should’ve gotten 4 years guaranteed and not Keuchel when you compare their ages and injury histories.

Poor, poor Twinkies. Still a bit nuts for a starter with Ryu’s injury history who will turn 33 in March gets a 4 year deal.

Edwin Encarnacion
You just want more acquisitions to set up your Show lineup, lol.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
Basically, he could be more David Eckstein than Jose Altuve if he doesn’t start sacrificing some contact for bat speed.

Edwin Encarnacion
Two years via salary arbitration.

Edwin Encarnacion
Eh, I wouldn’t be complaining about Machado at 3B and Moncada in RF over Mazara.

Edwin Encarnacion
I don’t get the EE hate. Yes, he’s old and yes he would block Collins but he can still hit in his old age, just like Nelson Cruz. He would also be cheap on a one year contract and could back up 1B.

Hats off to the Front Office
Pretty sure this has no chance of happening, and all the additions are making it much more likely that they don’t make the opening day roster.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
Agreed. Too much smoke around it and he will be cheap on a one year deal. I have no idea where this will leave Collins though.

Edwin Encarnacion
This is the most disturbing part. Because I don’t think anyone could complain about adding an .850 OPS DH on a cheap one year deal.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
Yeah, the Blue Jays went cheaper with Shaw for 1B/DH. I don’t see the Brewers being a fit for EE after they signed Smoak and I doubt the Rays will outbid the Sox. Rangers could be the only competition.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
EE is actually turning 37 in January but yeah, he can still hit.
-
Edwin Encarnacion
Oh dear, Hector bomb. As long as it isn’t Frank Castillo, I guess. The Blue Jays just signed Travis Shaw so I wonder if they are still in on EE. I don’t see the fit for the Brewers after they signed Smoak, with EE being a 1B/DH. And the Rays will always cheap out.

Everyone must be a moron because the market apparently valued Wheeler at 5/$100+, many teams were interested in him at that price, the Sox offered him $125, and he signed for $118.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
The Sox need to find a way to keep their prospects through this rebuild and keep drafting good ones. The Cubs have fallen apart because the well has run dry and they were unable to draft any pitching.

I’m not sure why you are trying to bash Wheeler so bad. He’s a 4 WAR guy and Hahn tried to sign him. Hahn must be a moron for wanting him at $125 million then, right? He’s good. Get over it.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
You just throw Castellanos in there with one guy who will get 1/$10 and Collins? At this point, Castellanos isn’t very likely.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
The joke that the Sox never sign Boras clients was a real thing up until now. It was Andruw Jones and Carlos Rodon and they don’t really count much as big free agent targets. Jones was an aging player at 33 and coming off of a weak season so he didn’t command much on a one year deal — only $500,000 with $1 million in incentives. Rodon is a Boras client but he was drafted by the Sox and rookie contracts are pretty much scaled. He received a $6.582 million signing bonus which is nothing.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Here’s an article about Grandal catching Keuchel since he is always painting the corners. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/dallas-keuchel-yasmani-grandal-join-forces

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
McCann could very easily have been a hole in the lineup if he reverts back to the guy he has been for the majority of his career. I’m guessing Hahn thought this as well and is one of the main reasons they pounced on Grandal.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
You lost me here. You mention that Hahn added a bunch of mid-tier players but seem convinced that McCann is the real deal? Does not compute.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
I think I am. He looked fine in his limited playing time. But yeah, it sucks that Renteria barley played him.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
Am I wrong for wanting to see Mendick get his shot over throwing any money at Holt?

Rick Giolito isn’t upset that Covey just lost his rotation spot? ?
