It’s a guy the Sox were rumored to have tried to trade for last season, it’s being reported by Merkin, our manager is openly discussing the player. There was also just a tweet about how Rick Hahn has to go talk to Jon Daniels. It’s happening.

I hated the idea of Calhoun and couldn’t imagine them doing worse than Kole. I’m impressed. They did worse than I thought.

The return likely won’t be that much regardless but how does Mazara improve this team and help make them a contender? We are hoping he breaks out after 4 seasons of similar performances. This was the offseason in which the Sox were supposed to acquire some “sure thing” players since “the money will be spent.”

It doesn’t matter much now. Mazara has proven himself to be mediocre over 4 seasons in the majors and now has less years of control and will be more expensive than Walker. We would be doing the Rangers a favor giving them anyone of value for Mazara.

But with less years of control and 4 years of offensive and defensive mediocrity.

I’d rather just start Steele Walker in RF next season.

Exactly. How is the defense of this potential acquisition that we still have to see what the Sox give up for him? Mazara is still mediocre. ?

Sox fans, at least intelligent ones, want good players... not mediocre ones. Mazara is a ~.750 OPS right fielder with bad defense. All he has going for him is youth (turning 25 at the beginning of the season). This isn’t the type of move anyone was expecting when we kept hearing, “The money will be spent.”

Moncada, Eloy, Robert, etc. There’s a lot to like about this team but Renteria is still a terrible manager and there’s really no denying it. Last season, it was a rare occurrence when posters didn’t make note of one of his bad managerial decisions in a game thread. If the Sox are trying to win it all, they need to improve all facets of their team, including game management.

That makes it sound like Renteria is truly the manager the Sox are sticking with going forward. Yuck.

Yolmer was set to make over $6 million dollars in arbitration but it didn’t happen because he was non-tendered, just like Gausman. I’m going to guess Yolmer won’t hit that number on his next contract. SP salaries are inflating, as Balta predicted.

Man, even mediocre SP options are getting paid a good chunk of change. Lyles and Gausman...
