  1. Last Fall when I brought up extensions for Robert & Madrigal many posters said maybe Madrigal would accept but no way would Robert because he already had the big payday. Now Robert has signed the extension and I'm being told Madrigal is unlikely to sign. If Madrigal is a huge success the Sox can save some money by extending him now...Madrigal signing early insures financial security in case of injury or less than hoped for success.
  2. Obviously the word extension doesn't mean everyone gets the same sized paycheck. Hahn seems quite capable of finding the number that gets results.
  3. Rick Hahn will want the team firing on all cylinders from opening day. I believe RH will work his extension magic sometime during ST.
  4. What's wrong with being a whiny curmudgeon? That description fits half the people on this board.
  5. Just for the record...I said that I expected to resign Yolmer in the 3 to 4 million range and that his skills would translate well for our needs.
  6. I didn't say Renteria is highly thought of by anyone. My point is that a 34 year pro baseball career probably qualifies him for knowing as much about baseball as most of us. Managers get fired all the time after being manager of the year a year or two earlier. Good managers are made by good players and no manager wins with bad players. I hated RR passion for the bunt and said so throughout the season. Just trying to be fair...no one would have won with last years crew. If we win 105 games in 2020 if probably doesn't mean he's the best strategist of all time either. By the way...Dusty Baker keeps getting hired in spite of my opinion that he couldn't find his ass using both hands.
  7. A manager is responsible for the X's & O's of the lineup construction and in game management. His other responsibility is clubhouse and attitude management. The jury is still out on Renteria's in game management but he seems to have the players respect and they seem to play hard. RR has been in professional baseball for 34 years. We as fans toss around how dumb managers are but you just can't spend 34 years in pro ball without knowing when to bunt, send a runner or pitch hit, etc. I am prepared to see a much better job of managing now that he has the players to contend.
  8. I imagine we were one of those major league offers. You can call me surprised.
  9. In the same article Kopech called Eloy this generations Babe Ruth and Eloy called Kopech this generations Noland Ryan. This team is EXCITING!
  10. Although not weak...it is true that the staff is not overpowering yet. Once Kopech and Rodon are available to join Gio, Keuchel, Cease, Lopez and Gonzales...we will be in most games. If Cease & Lopez can find themselves the starters will be among the best staffs by the ASB. Bullpens can be fickle but I'm pretty sure it will be above average. In short...I really like that every player is surrounded by other good players. The pressure is off since every hitter has protection. When an opposing pitcher works carefully and walks a man or two the roof will cave in.
  11. No doubt...we haven't won anything yet. Thomas and Thome were exciting but I wouldn't bet against Robert and Moncada since they are 5 tool players...something you can't say about Thomas or Thome. I'm not knocking WS legends...just saying this new group can literally be the best of all time. Time will tell but I am very optimistic.
  12. Assuming Madrigal is on the OD lineup...potential All Star at every position accept RF. Two and arguably 3 five tool players along with AL batting & rbi champs. All Star catcher as the backup. Eight people in the OD lineup with 30+ home run potential.
  13. Star power everywhere you look and Madrigal & Kopech coming up soon. Best OD roster ever IMO.
  14. LOL

Yes...that is the exact number of games he needs. Unless the extension fairy likes what he see's in ST.
  15. Actually a good deal for both sides. Lifetime security for the player...bargain for the team if he is all that they think he is. Get er done Rick.
  16. Rick seems to know how to sell extensions. He will get it done IMO.
  17. LOL

I would bet zero dollars one way or the other on Madrigal being on the Sox for opening day. Eloy signed an extension near the end of ST. Nicky could easily do the same thing. Because a Madrigal extension would not be huge...he might be brought up even without signing an extension. This will be one of the interesting things to watch in ST.
  18. I don't believe it is an absolute that Madrigal doesn't start with the big club. Eloy's extension came late in ST.
  19. Let's just say that 4 or 5 years of playoff baseball would change some minds.
  20. I know what you are saying but I know many Cubs fans who are thoroughly disgusted with the lack of offseason activity for a team that disappointed them last year.
  21. If 1 or 2 of these guys found a way to make the final cut...it would be huge.
  22. First televised game a month from tomorrow.?
