  1. I am full of questions today - does he have any value? Somehwere I lost track of exactly who said what yesterday but I got the impression someone said somehwere out loud that PK was having hip problems, and to publicly say that would seem to me to drive his value down. I always like PK a lot but he is really not playing to the level he should.
  2. didn't we go that route once? and didn't he whine and cry? and didn't all the worshippers of St JosE6 complain that he was being abused? and doesn't his contract situation means we lsoe him at the end of the year because he will get way too over priced for what he does unless he suddenly raises his average by 150 points and stop making errors?
  3. not at all! although I get the feeling I've been dropped into the middle of a very convulated soap opera and I have lost track of who likes who and who hates who...
  4. he was a class player and person in every way
  5. It was almost 2 years ago exactly that I started liking Royce Clayton so for your sake, maybe it is best if I do not start liking D Lo...
  6. I don;t have the heart to do it - I always vote for all Sox players in the AL - but who is worthy this year right now? The only all star we have won't be elected, and that is Loaiza
  7. when I worked in foster care, we took kids from the parents when their parents were like that - with court orders of course first -
  8. the thread is about Jim Rome mocking KW because of his family issues
  9. by the way: other parents with children guilty of criminal offenses include: G W Bush, two daughters Jeb Bush, 1 daughter No one has ever heard me bash the Bush family for their children's problems... ... and anyone who thinks it would be unfair to criticise a Bush father for what the children have done, then leave KW alone on this but if you think that guilty kids makes a parent a bad person, then do what you can to get both Bushs fired on thsoe grounds. Don't play it both ways. Be consistent. Now if you want KW fired (or the Bushs) because they are f*** ups in their jobs totally apart from their kids' situations, go for it.
  10. you really think Rome wouldn't have commented on it? KW spoke to it becauser it was in the news and you have to say something. I've been there close enough. I didn't have a press conferance but once your kid is arrested and everyone knows you have to say something. Do you think KW would have commented if it had not been reported all over the media? I doubt it. He had no choice - he had to say something. And who knows all the facts? And depends oln how you look it things. What my kid did was against the law. But looked at from another angle, he was just defending a buddy whoi was being attacked. And doing what anyone might have done in the same suituation. And from another perspective, a flash of bad judgment in a moment when he had a to make a quick decision - who here has never been in a place where you did something illegal and were lucky not to have ben caught? I've been with friends in my time when they did something illegal - drink and drive, open intoxs, minor in possession, illegal substances - oh I wanted to kick my kid's ass and he got not one cent from me for his legal fees but all the same, he was my kid and he got what he deserved and it was still damned hard - yeah, and I am rather well known in this community and I heard some of the jokes that singled him out because he was my kid - the other kids involved got to fade into the background, but mine didn't because the name is well known out here. Funny thing was when he was sentenced I was not there - I was at Comiskey and I got the news over the phone - there was nothing that I could do for him that day and I couldn't bear to watch. Maybe that makes me a bad parent. I can still tell you exactly which pay phone I was at when I got the news. And the following week, the judge apologised to me and I told the judge it was cool, he only did what he had to do. The judge and I are friends. And my son did his time and is one of those Marines you are supporting. Now what do you judge my kid by - his conviction, his jail time, or his turning his life around? And should minors be the butt of jokes on national radio? Is that not rather a cheap joke? The question we threw at another poster a few days - who here is so perfect that this is amusing or funny? I know exactly felt when he got the news. May it never happen to anyone else. Dump on KW all one wants (we all know I do) but leave his kids out of it, :fyou Jim Rome and if this makes me a humorless son of a b****, well then, so be it.

    KW poll

Please God. If I were him and could afford it, yeah.
  12. and that won't be that long. Attorney time isn't that cheap, nor is a full blown defense. Especially with 20,000 witnesses who will testify against him. He'll plead - might even plead to the original charge - the onyl question may be the exact terms of the sentence - jail time, restitution, therapy/counseling/rehab - and probation that will land his ass in jail big time if he ever f***s up again.
  13. not funny to me. A family's private tragedy is just that. I suppose that being KW being a public figure this is par for the course buyt humor in other people's tragedies does not amuse me. My younger son was busted a few times at age 16. He was living with his mom, not me, which is how I account for that - but it is a heavy thing to get word that your son has been arrested. It is heartbreaking to sit in court and watch your child go through the process. And my kid was guilty as hell and it is hard to get the news when the judge sentences your kid to jail time - trust me I know. Not very funny, any of it. Now my kid got his life turned around thereafter and he is my son the Marine. He did have to leave this community and go elsewhere to get his life turned around because in our small community what happened would never be forgotten - hasn't been forgotten. I don't know what KW's kids will do but this is not an easy time for them. One reason I despise sports talk is the glibness with which they amuse themselves with other people's pain. On NPR this morning there was a commentary about how mean sports reporting has gotten. It is. I want KW gone really badly. But as a father, I know what he is going through. Wait until Rome or someone in his family gets busted or something else happens - I bet he won't find it all that amusing. I hope every parent out there thinks about how much fun it would be to hear your child's problems being made jokes of on national radio.
  14. he ain't walking... the actual % of people who "get off" due to a technicality is very, very teeny tiny small - and I am glad they do when those technicalities make the difference in the way the laws are enforced - I am very confident that the Chicago police made very sure they did everything by the book in this matter - and precisely because it is a high profile case, I'll bet the states attorney will have very little give in the negotiations -
  15. I have watched D Lo and I am not impressed. I am not anti him, but I have seen nothing that has impressed me. Stats alone don't do it for me. I have not been thrilled watching him on the field playing defense or running bases. But I don't dislike him enough to go off on him. I agree that too often we trash our own. The comments about his attitude with us have been from the same reliable sources as always and that means, as far as I am concerned, that he has a crap arttitude. That is no reference to whatever came before he got here, only what has been said (by those who know our players best) since he got here.
  16. a little thing called the Constitution.... who decides if something is indisputable if not the trial procedure in the judicial system? An initial plea of not guilty is very standard and means nothing. Now the plea is entered, the states atttorney and defense attorney do their thing and figure out what in fact the accused will plead guilty to and what the sentence will be - the defense attorney is doing her/his job - in a high profile case everyone is going to stake out some ground - any one here who was ever charged with a crime, you'd want your attorney to do everything for you - I doubt it will have any impact in this case - but the attorney is just doing what the attorney is supposed to do and what you'd want done for you if it were your ass being acccused - and when they have come to agreement a new plea will be entered, sentence imposed, and no trial - but everyone is entitled to a trial, everyone - it is a cost of freedom.
  17. By the way, my friend, if you doubled the lines of your signature, it would still all be there but no so long - like this: From the halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli, We fight our country's battles In the air, on land and sea. First to fight for right and freedom, And to keep our honor clean, We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marines.
  18. I was wondering where you were -
  19. In every state redistricting for congress is done every ten years. And Texas did it two years ago like everyone else. But now the Republicans control both branches of the Texas legislature so Tom delay drew up one of the most outrageous gerrymanded new redistriicting maps ever to cut up the city of Austin in 4 ways so they can eliminate Democrats from congress. Raw political power - and I think the Democratic response to this power grab is fantastic. Deny them a quorom.
  20. yes, you do have to justify war. those 3,000 bodies were from when Bush 1 in 1991 encouraged Iraqis to rebel and when they did, Bush did not as god damned thing other than leave them to their fate. This war was about oil and Haliburton's slowly being discovered bigger and bigger contract and curious no one has reported how many Iraqis died in the past month. Of course this was was either about September 11th (no link between Hussein and bin Laden, who hate each other), or Iraq's nuclear weapons (turned out to be lies when Bush said it and he knew it) or IOraq's weapons of mass destruction which Colin Powell swore oaths that we had evidence that thewy were right there- where? Where? And what imminent threat was Iraq? Oh, and where is bin Laden (Bush: we will get him dead or alive) and where for that matter is Saddam, oir his sons, and what have we done to hurt al Queda since September 11th as they merrily go their way with more terrorism? Seems all we have done is leave al Queda alone and go after olil. Oh, wand we have teenagers locked up at Gitmo. That has sure put an end to al Queda big time, yeah right, Bush is the most accomplished liar we have had as president - talks big and does nothing but enriches his cronies.
