It was one of the best trades in WS history as it stands. We got rid of Karchner and that was a major plus for the Sox. Ranks with Sosa for Bell and Navarro and Snyder for Eldred and Valentin as among the happiest trades of my life. Anything Garland does makes the Karchner trade only sweeter, it was a great trade just to have Karchner gone. And I do expect great things from Garland this season.

The 1 player from every team rule is one that I cannot envision ever being scrapped simply because every team has a stake in it. And that is one reason why I don't like awarding home field advantage to the league that wins the All Star Game. Another reason is the DH. Is the DH used in all All Star games or only those played in AL parks? If the latter, than the AL would be at a disadvantage every other year in the All Star Game. And home field is too important in the World Series to be at a disadvantage that often. The awarding of home field to the team with the best record does not excote me much. It works in the NHL and NBA, but that is one leage with conferances. In MLB we have two separate leagues, each with their long history of over 100 years each, and the rotation of the World Series between leagues is one of the things that results from the leagues separate existences. Changing the way that home field advantage is decided will cause further the dissolution of any difference between the leagues. And I am a proud AL fan and don't want things blurred with the NL.

I didn't become aware of him really until the 99 season, I remember in July (probably July 29th, don't ask why I remember the day) the Trib ran a major article about Mags coming of age as a player. They said he was on the verge of being a superstar, and to my way of thinking, he is.

I'm not so sure the Expos are that set on getting rid of Colon or dumping salary. That team has to be sold to someone who will relocate it, and it has to have some players of value in order to find a buyer.

Buehrle, Wright, and Garland will only improve in 2003, as young pitchers with talent do with experience - that can be a solid first three - and if Rauch comes through, and Biddle can do the 5th spot - we've got something where we don't need anything else. Of course something good comes along - but I wouldn't wreck our team by giving up something good that will cost us. I'd welcome Ritchie too, he surely can contribute in 2003 better than in 2002. So I am not panicking if we don't sign something. I think we have the pieces, they have to come through, and Jerry ahs to sue them wisely.

I thought about it, a lot. I have decided that in my own opinion I like the current rotation of World Series starting in AL and NL parks. Fairest way. I also love zach's idea of ending a tied 9 inning game with something special, a home run contest, even though swinging for the fences in the home run contest can throw off a batter's swing (witness Kornerko after last year's home run contest.) Do it Olympic Hockey style: 5 players, each team, get five at bats. Nothing was more exciting than the overtime 5 shots on goals by each team for the gold.

Hey RPS, before you go making Mr Meat Hat Head a regular, I am still overdo for a guest appearance, although without Clayton to argue out, we have to come up with a new schtick. Granted zach is much funnier than I am, and indeed, he puts me to shame in almost every category except sock waving (he even gives me a run for the money on score keeping) but when it comes to half-baked opinions expressed vehemently as if they are truth - a staple of s&r - I can do that as well as anyone! I won't bring krispy cremes though. I cannot eat them. I will bring several bowls of my delicious chocolate mousse made with non fat soymilk - and a 24 pack of beer to wash it down.
