  1. I was with a group of friends at a local sports bar having our post aerobics class drink when I saw ESPN flash that. What I am wondering is that the same thing that we did to Ritchie that the Angels did to Fullmer, which means we could re-sign Ritchie at any time? And is that possibly true that the Braves have promised the untalented and useless Fick the 1st base job? At something under a million a year? That is really odd. What is going on in Atlanta? I'd take Fullmer over Fick in a heartbeat. Must have been a negotiating ploy by the Angels. But then I'd take Tonya Harding to play any baseball position over Fick - more aggressive and more talent.
  2. None of those pitchers named is making me get up and dance. I'd like to give AR a channce to CF, but Jose Cruz Jr sure sounds interesting.
  3. You always liked Fick, which I could never understand. I'll tell you what, everyone who likes Fick, pick him for your fantasy league teams and see how well you do!

and are there any rumors whether we will re-sign him or not? I wouldn't mind seeing him play for us again, he certainly was better than what he showed us last year and we need something out of that trade. But I wouldn't let him get to 15 losses, if he didn't get better numbers, I'd dump him. And damn I'd like to see us sign Buehrle to a long term contract soon. Whatever he wants...
  5. When will we see either of them, in your opinion?
  6. so would I... in a heartbeat. But I wonder what the pressure is like in that job to have to sell the prospects you talk up and then hope like hell they make it - there must be some sort of percentage of your touted players that must work, or you ahve to be a really good buddy of the GM, to keep on in that job.
  7. I don't think so, HSC. Murdoch is a wheeler and dealer, loves to buy and sell. If his original plans for the Dodgers didn't work and he is moving on to DirectTV, makes sense he'd sell the Dodgers without a thought. He is not a baseball guy, probably doesn't even know what a baseball looks like. It was all about global or at least Asian market positioning. Does DirectTV go overseas? Somehow I wonder if Murdoch if would sell with some contractual ties that would still allow him the entree he wants in the Asian market for his media empire.

He's too competitive to hang up the spikes yet.
  9. On all of those weekday nights that I am not at Comiskey and the Sox are not on any cable station carried in Michigan, I watch the Tigers and ponder why they are so bad, and why when the Sox struggle, we are still far better than them. Some of it is the manager. Manuel might now impress us always until you look at what else is out there. And some of it is talent. Fick is one of the most over-rated utility players ever. I've seen him in so many games. Just nothing there. When Brandon Inge took his job, the Tigs didn't even keep Fick as back-up, they switched his position just to see if they could salvage anything. And they couldn't. The only player that the Tigers had last year that I would like is Weaver, and since he is represented by Boras and he is kind of a head case anyway, I never counted on that when others hoped. I see the Tigers at Comiskey and I see them in Detroit. Last August in fact I saw both my beloved Sox and my beloved Wolverines play on the same day (and they both won, of course!). Fick has no fans in Detroit, and the Michigan papers thought letting him go was a good Tigers move. I have no idea what others see in him except he gets into fights. I like attitude as much as anyone, one reason I love Parque and feel so badly that he didn't recover for us. But what anyone sees in Fick is beyond me, and all I can conclude is that no one has seen him as much as me. We have maybe one more year of feeding off the Tigers. Trammel inherited nothing (and got rid of Fick... considering the new Tigers coaching staff is filled with people who saw a lot of the Tigers like year, such as Kirk Gibson, that should say something...). Trammel may, and I say may, be able to resurrect that team in a year or two.
  10. It is good to know that at least one person out there thinks that besides me! HSC, as far as the Austrailian papers knowing before a US source, given Murdoch's citizenship and corporate ownerships and business structures, doesn't surprise me at all. And it wouldn't surprise me if he sold to non-US ownership either. I believe that someday the Dodgers are going to be based in Japan.

where is Parque thinking of going? I always liked Parque. He was good to me when I met him and I love his battling attitude. If I were ina fight, I'd want him by my side, he'd never give up. I just wish he could have recovered from surgery better/faster, and I wish we could re-sign him.
  12. Right now I am offering prayers of thanksgiving that you are not our GM! That 265 batting average is that impressive, huh? I'd take Liefer over Fick any time, I'd take Singleton over Fick, hell, I'd take Noberto Martin over Fick every time.
  13. Other than on college football, have you ever been wrong?
  14. Thanks for sharing this info. It is good to read what others say about Borchard, Rauch, and especially Honel. Gives me hope...
  15. Fick is not a very good ball player, period. He was a catcher and could not cut it. He was tried in the outfield and could not cut it. I think in all of 2002 he had one hit total that meant anything. He has a persona of being some kind of ball player, but he isn't. Was everyone impressed that he got into a brawl with the Sox in 2000? Then sign him up for the WWF, but he is just not a good ball player. The attraction of Fick astounds me. No Tigers fan is crying because he is gone from their roster. And no Sox fan who lives in Michigan who has seen a lot of Fick (i.e., me) wants him anywhere near our roster. I am glad he is in another league. By the way, the Tigers had a team of 9 Ficks. That is why they lost 107 games or whatever it was. That is why he is gone. Striking a macho pose with no talent to back it up will get you 107 losses. It is not a choice between tea parties and pennents, it is a choice between players and people who merely offer attitude. Fick is no damn good. Thank God the Sox didn't sign him. I have seen his dismal play for the last three seasons. Thank God the Sox didn't sign him.
  16. Obviously you do not live in Michigan where one can watch the Tigers play. Fick is a jerk and a lousy ball player and would have been one of the worst acquistions in Sox history. Signing Fick would have seriously challenged my desire to drive 205 miles one way every homestand weekend to see the Sox. I have no idea what attraction Fick has for people who haven't seen him play much, but it is bizarre. When the Tigers who have nothing have no use for a player, that should say something.
  17. he original thinking was Murdouch wanted the Dodgers as part of a sports entertainment money making piece of his empire. The New Yorker magazine once opined that Murdoch might even want to move the team to Asia to establish dominance in an emerging market. It would appear that Murdoch's corporate plans are now going in a different direction. The Dodgers were JR's first love, which is why we have blue seats at Comiskey.
  18. I can't fathom why Atlanta (or anyone) would want Fick, but there goes the Braves' chance of repeating as division champion.
  19. what about getting "location" back? That was always interesting, helped to know the other posters.
  20. he'll rock, I can feel it - a great name for a reliever - sounds like he could be one of ours, a pisan -
  21. Once again, happy birthday Heather, and becaue I love you on your special day, I won't post the numbers 4-3 OT or the numbers 325-265-88 (approximate series total) - my greatest joy is for your special day! My lesser but yet great joy is that you'll won't be trashing talking so much on my hockey team today... Hope you had a great time anyway and a great weekend and I'll buy you a beer sometime at Comiksey in 2003!

    Whatta game!

Shockey is a homophobic trash talking pea brain who is aiming to be the football answer to John Rocker and I suspect he will be out of sports in a few years. Throwing stuff at the fans is certainly a charming way to show that you have minimal control of yourself. Both of those teams have issues they need to work on - Terrell Owens is a walking diaster and would have cost his team the game with all those unsportsmanlike penalties except the Giants were just as stupid to respond with their own, now offsetting, unsportsmenlike penalties.
  23. On mine, it says Article: Colon Would Provide Sox with Final Piece. Only in Iowa does it say "Pie." We get the piece, you get the pie. More wholesome for you that way.
