It is for the 14 county congressional district. It was actually a fun day. I didn't want to go to the convention, been doing so much lately, last Sunday I spoke at an AFL-CIO rally, tomorrow I have a radio talk show thing and then our county meeting - makes for long days. We had to break off into caucuses and my caucus elected me chair which was an honor cause we had some high profile people in the room and then the Dem of the Year thing later - the dinner I get to go to is a really big deal, the swankiest thing in the state all year - and I had wanted to go but couldn't afford it. And now I get to go for free with a guest! And all the neat s*** I'll get to do! A lot of people want to win this thing and I hadn't thought about it - I am going to tell Kerry to talk McCain into being his running mate! I want a unity ticket - bring folks together - I think now it is really time! (by the way, I schedule all party functions only after I consult my schedule - saving the nation is one thing but there are priorities and that is White Sox baseball!)

In news that is surprizing yet oddly not -- at our congressional district meeting today, out of the blue to me, I was nominated and elected "Democrat of the Year" next month I get a photo op and dinner with John Kerry
  4. I prefer to be out with someone who is "hit on-able" rather than not it is simply a compliment to my date and me

    George Harrison

I am freaking out over those ratings (and thank you I4E for posting those! ) Wonderwall to me (key phrase "to me") is 5 Star all the way but then you have to like sitar music and George's playing with it. I love it immensely, always have. And then there was the day I played it on our college radio station (I was a dj, and program and music director) someone thought we had blown the system when they heard the album over the air. Live in Japan a 1 star is bulls***. As far as live music goes, it is better in my opinion that Concert for Bangladesh and my comparison is based on having listened to both full length two days ago on a long car trip. CFB is great (love the sitar...) and I personally think Wah Wah is one of the greatest live songs ever. But LIJ has such a majesty - George had some new orchestrations for songs we know very well and it is wonderful, great new musical insights, and I think his best vocal performance ever was on My Sweet Lord on LIJ. The way he puts out the words, just makes it so real, as it is intended, a prayer, you hear the questions and longing in his voice, 'but it take's so long, My Lord.' Got to move Dark Horse up just for that song alone. I will never defend Gone Troppo. Brainwashed is not 3 star. It is 4 star, not 5 either. Even if he had lived to finish it himself it would not have made 5 star in my opinion but Dhani and Jeff Lynne did a hell of a job finishing it. It is certainly the most personal album he did. George's anger at the bulls*** in the world could be a tad more lyrically better in the title song but the music makes the point and it has one of the best quotes from Hindu wriitngs ever in it. The rest of the album, ity is so personal, he knew he was dying when he made it and you hear the love for Olivia for example, some of his other thoughts, little musical touches like the uke that we didn't hear much of elsewhere - and the opening number, Any Road, I haven't gotten that one out of my head, it so really George, any road will take you there if you don't care where you're going. Have to admit Brainwashed took me 2 or 3 times through before I started loving it. If you want to see the power of George's music, you ahve to see the Concert for George video. When you see what it meant to other musicians it really makes a point (and if you saw the recent R&R HOF performance does the same thing, what Prince does on While My Guitar Gently Weeps is astounding) but in some of the last numbers - when you stop being emotional about it like I am, you see like 3 drummers, 2 of being Ringo Starr and Jim Kettner, and all these quitar players, including Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, all the other people playing, Paul McCartney, the Heartbreakers, Billy Preston on the piano (or sometimes Paul too) and you count the musicians playing at once and you would think, this would way overpower any music. And it doesn't. That to me is a real test of music that the world's largest rock band ever can all be playing at the same time and the music is clear as if it were a single instrument (as the way they play "Something') it really speaks to the astounding quality of George's musicanship. For the rest, what Florida Jim said...
  6. that is too damn bad I thought the whole thing was funny
  7. in any mesaningful way, it is not south of 95th street...
  8. I agree with your sentiments
  9. no they did not deserve an NCAA bid but this is a great building effort for next year and winning any type of post season championship is cool so: Michigan won the NIT!!!! just saying...
  10. not a strike really, but actually an owners lockout the last Saturday night game I stood in UD and it was a glorious night, great weather, good crowd, Sox winning, and asked, why would anyone not want to kep this going at the risk of unleashing more antiJR rhetoric, unfortunately I can suggest who was one of the chief owners supporting locking out the players I appreciate JR more than most and get tired of the JR bashing, but that was not his finest hour by any means to say the very least as an understatement and your point about the team loss and the Frank loss to history is very right on
  11. May ithe next year be a magical mystery tour
  12. I have no expectations for this year. I can't determine if we are good or not so good. No idea about Ozzie. I am just going to sit back and enjoy the show and not get too high nor too low.
  13. this was a fun oldie but good, thanks dakota boy for bringing it up
  14. well, it does sometime this afternoon - good luck to Bob Dylan and everyone who is involved on that site!
  15. oh so did meet people unlike the day in 2001 when you were too drunk at Miller to meet me and my friends??????? You blew it - I was talking to the Biddles while Rocky pitched and you were left talking to the beer man.
  16. so amazon uk decided to release on dvd Carl Perkins & Friends - with George, Ringo, Eric - something new to buy... bought...
  17. with a few changes, my apologies, but to make it more of a maxim, yes. I think the tilt has been to the proBush side from the beginning but there have also been some incredible conversations/debates/discussion here to which many people have made wonderful contributions and from whom I have learned things or gained greater understandings of other things. God bless us, all, everyone.
  18. NPR just had a Republican panel member commenting on the "incosistencies" between what Rice has said to them in private (not under oath) and what she has said (not under oath) on all the talk shows. Meanwhile Clarke wants his emails declassified. I think I see a winning hand and a losing hand here. I remember President Gerald Ford going to Congress to the House Judiciary Committee to testify about the Nixon pardon.
  19. I am calling you on your inaccurate statement. Fanof14 is right about recently and since this board began. There have been many times when Apu was villified beyond belief and it was just apu and me being ripped by the other, your, side to the point where I wass told a year ago that people liked me wanted our troops to be killed in Iraq so we could "win" whioch was not only a morally indefensible statemen but my son is an active duty Marine so don't come crying here about your side being so picked on and "bashing" being one-sided. It is simply not true, not true at all. When I first was made an admin I had peoeple ask me personally and via email to ban apu for his political views. I have never disclosed that before but it really disgusted me the intolerance. Then there was all the s*** that happened last October. You just dislike that we don't roll over and go away. Your side has already been well represented and vehement. Name a time when you think Mr Eye and IlliniBob, among others, have ever been silent in representing their beliefs. Name a day when s2k4 hasn't posted. I think you need to put your Madonna album on and play Don't Cry for Me Argentina.

    Finally.

Dennis Byrne has been a right wing shill since he got his columnist job. If you are going to read the Trib might I suggest the news stories as well as selected columnists.
  21. I never see your comments about both sides, just one side. Other than poor Mr Eye feeling oh so sorry for himself in the post after yours, the only other type of comemnts we get is that Kerry=bad, Kerry=victory for al quada, Kerrry=anti militray, Kerry=flip flops. To paraphrase Mr Eye, you all see no imperfections in Bush (other than Tex) and you see no good in Kerry or the Democrats so forgive me for not taking some of these "alas..." comments as totally supported or any of the "no matter what..." statements as anything but hypocrasy. Full disclosure - Saturday I posted a few of my disagreements with Kerry. I have never hid that he was not my first choice (nor 2nd nor 3rd nor 4th) but then again he has my total support, and why. I have not seen any opbjectivity from the republican whiners about how every body is so mean and nasty to poor Georgie or any criticisms of the perfect realm of G W. So I am not buying your comment nor Mr Eye's, not buying them at all. Give me your descriptions of the 99% bulls*** put out by Bush and then I could maybe hear you when you talk about Kerry or the Dems. All I ever read from you is attacks on Kerry and the Dems and defense of Bush in everything he says he does and criticisms of those weho criticize Bush. And Mr Eye, the only poster we have who on his stuff on the site identifies himself as a memeber of a party, in your case, a Republican, owhat criticisms of Bush can you post to show that any of your comments are antything other than partisan rhetoric?
  22. bump for the republicans who mised it, chi sox sonix....
