Former prospect Erick Almonte was released from the New York Yankees. Anyone else think he'd be a good acquisition for the Sox? We are very shallow at SS and he has to be an upgrade over Jorge Nunez if we still have him.

Well most say Jerry Hairston Jr. is the better second baseman but he had an injury early on in Spring Training which will likely result in him missing the start of the season (fractured knuckle). So as of right now I'd say Roberts is the starter, but I'd bet if Hairston's injury isn't too serious then he'll be back starting for the O's.

By the end of the 2001 and 2003 World Series' Arizona and Florida really didn't even use their closers. So in playoffs I don't think the closer role is that important. Although, I do think your point has relevance when it comes to the regular season. I think you have to have one guy in the closer role, but that one guy definitely doesn't have to be the second coming.

Doesn't have to be by committee, just make either Politte or Marte the closer. Can I just reitterate that Closer is the most overrated position in all of sport.

Anyone else think that David Riske will fill the role quite adequately? Or is it just they have bigger plans for David?

Not sure if you're serious or not but if Koch fails we have at least one guy that can more than fill the role for less than 50% of the price we'd pay for Urbina.

Harris seems to be our only true threat to steal bases. 4 out of 5 in that department I believe while only getting on base a few times is pretty impressive. I think he deserves the full opportunity to start at second bases versus right handed pitchers. On the topic of bunting, I've only seem him bunt once this ST and it was decent so I can't make a great judgement there. I also don't know much about Dransfeldt, therefore I can't make the argument that Kelly should on the roster and Willie not. Hell, I thought Dransfeldt was a shortstop?

From the way you guys are talking about Danny Wright as a starting pitcher you don't expect much out of him. I see good things from him this year.

While expecting Loaiza to be our ace again is probably going to be a mistake, there in no reason to think that a spring training performance will be the reaon for his drop off. I am reassured by the fact that Danny Wright will have a season 100% times better than last and by the fact that Jon Garland will only get better. My only worry is if Schoeneweis can be a quality starter or not.
