La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire

I agree with Marcus. How can the officer not know who Tony LaRussa is? -
La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire

One potential issue is if Toronto is our ALCS opponent. If we clinch the pennant in Toronto -- maybe the William Harridge Trophy could be presented to LaRussa watching the game in an American hotel? Reinsdorf will probably watch the clincher with Tony so he doesn't feel left out. I'd imagine Jerry and Tony would stay in Niagara Falls so Jerry could drive over to Toronto with the Harridge Trophy after it's presented to LaRussa. -
I admire Jerry and Kenny’s restraint not to release a tweet telling the fans to knock it off - it would’ve been well justified. We’ll have an absolute ball with TLR the next few years. And if it takes others a longer curve to enjoy what’s to come - that’s ok too - we’ll gladly welcome them aboard this magic carpet ride with open arms.

Watching the Bachelorette these past 2 weeks was such an embodiment of the LaRussa dynamics. You have a decision-maker (Jerry/Clare Crawley) identifying a candidate with all the credentials they can dream of (Tony LaRussa/Dale). You had all the other bachelors seeing the writing on the wall and using the stand-up comedy routine for launching hundreds of cheap insults at Dale to justify their hatred (ie. fans/twitter stooping to hundreds of character assassinations of Tony). And finally you had the culmination of Clare Crawley getting engaged to Dale (Jerry hiring Tony). There’s a reason Dale was the quickest winner in Bachelor history and Tony has 3 world titles and 6 pennants to his name. It’s no coincidence both have endured a tsunami of grenades and couldn’t be less bothered.

Tony LaRussa could tweet “No one asked me but....as a color guy who got the heave-ho on the other side of town for dramatic relationships with players, I’d zip my lips before I complete the Renteria getting booted from both sides of town.” But TLR won’t tweet that because he’s busy saving animals, passing out Halloween candy, and voting in the election. There’s 5 months till Opening Day. They’ll be forming the genesis of lifelong friendships in 3 months. Let these people live — the first week after TLR’s hiring is Halloween/Election time.

I haven’t been this excited since ‘05. This has completely rejuvenated me. When I heard the news, I screamed so loud it reverberated through the house with a force that’s only been matched by ‘05 and a few March Madness buzzer beaters. I feel grateful and indebted to Jerry Reinsdorf and the White Sox for making this happen. The family culture has always made this organization special for me, and an all-time great coming home is unmatched. -
YYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!! Just heard the news, and screamed so loud the house shook. Never bet against Tony LaRussa. He's a legend of the sport and Jim Leyland's called him the "GOAT" for a reason. He's kept sharp on the game through the years and put on an exhibition in relationship skills when he flipped a bunch of votes to get Harold into the HOF. TLR is the complete package - socially, relationship skills, fundamentals, knowledge, subtle moves, big moves. I'm so proud and grateful to be a fan. My favorite pro sports organization ever. This day goes down as one of my favorite in history and I can feel my body overcome with jolts of energy.

This is a really good list. I’d add Jack McKeon at #5 and call it a day.
-
Hope it’s made official soon. Maybe they’re waiting to announce it until a World Series game so the broadcast cuts away with a breaking news update, like when A-Rod opted out.
-
No kidding. TLR probably gave a blunt response to a dumb question from Passan one time, and he’s all butthurt over it. One’s a legend of the game. The other lives on twitter with “Elmo impersonator” in his bio. Good grief.

Tony LaRussa retires on top of the world for the second time, with AJ taking over.

Wow. Tony LaRussa is a HOF Legend. Hearing of this possibility gives me goosebumps. Jack McKeon won a World Series at 72. George Halas’ first and last titles were 42 years apart. Connie Mack managed until 87. LaRussa’s built a legacy on being forward-thinking and outwitting his adversaries. Jim Leyland is on record calling him the GOAT. LaRussa’s as sharp as they come. He’s stayed up to speed on the sport. And he’s refreshed and refueled. This all feels surreal to me. I hope it’s true. This organization is about to take us on a magic carpet ride if they pull this off.

Anyone Remember Much about the 2000 White Sox?
IWokeUpLikeThis replied to Soxsi75's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wouldn’t Hawk always take shots at Manuel’s playoff management whenever the 2000 team would come up in subsequent years? I vaguely remember a newspaper cover depicting Kenny as a cheater after the Sirotka trade. Kind of amazing he got away with that. -
The person who threw out the first pitch for this game (7/6/05) was former Negro Leaguer Teddy “Double Duty” Radcliffe for his 103rd Birthday. When he was 88 in 1990, he was robbed and beaten at a South Side project. The Baseball Assistance team found him housing thereafter. When he was 97 in 1999, he appeared in a professional game for the Schaumburg Flyers. Starting with his 100th Birthday in 2002, he’d throw out the first pitch at a Sox game each year on his birthday. He had been a frequent game-goer through the years. Someone who would be 118 years old today was a part of the 2005 Sox season.
