GT 5/29: ORIOLES @ SOX G2
IWokeUpLikeThis replied to CentralChamps21's topic in 2021 Season in Review
+1. The trophy is a great tool at my disposal to reward outstanding posts. -
Starts Hamilton in Game 2. HR & diving catch with bases loaded. Net positive of +3 runs in 2-run game.
-
Tony pushed the right buttons with Cease tonight. Let Cease work his way through the 6th and gain confidence while eclipsing his career high pitch mark.
-
This was my exact impression. Frank and Gordon are really good. Scotty comes off incredibly dry on live tv.

Lorretta's Lounge renamed after TLR
IWokeUpLikeThis replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s more of a picnic table-like setting. There’s about 8 tables that could fit 4 adults or 6 kids. It’s usually families with kids or grandparents sitting there eating. Hard to find a seat pregame but they’re usually open during the game. It’s to the north of the LF foul pole. It’s now a story on CBS News https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2021/05/26/white-sox-drop-concession-worker-loretta-micele-name-lounge/ While I love the idea of a La Russa-themed section of the ballpark, I actually felt a little sick to my stomach seeing them change this section. Loretta was a White Sox legend working for 70 years - it’s employees and parts of the ballpark like Loretta’s Lounge that make the organization feel family-oriented. I remember another usher, an older lady of (I think) Pacific Islander heritage with grey hair, who was my favorite growing up at games. I loved how quiet and nice she was and always made sure to buy from her. I also went to a Cubs game and she ushered there too. I haven’t seen her at a game in over 10 years, unfortunately. -
Reporter asked about his aggressive mentality. Lance: “I’ve always been a [bleep] [bleep]”
-
Sassy Lance bringing the profanity postgame!

The untold part of the story is Jerry Krause was...right. Dennis Rodman played 23 and 12 games the next 2 years and retired. His career was effectively over but no one knew. Scottie Pippen went down 5 PPG the next year, and 7 PPG the next 2 years. Blowing it up did Jordan a favor ensuring he went out on top because that team was not sniffing another ring after ‘98. Krause flunked the rebuild, but he earned that opportunity.

Yes! The NAIA Tournament is held at a historic venue too - KC Municipal Auditorium. There’s fantastic basketball at all those levels. Some really cool rivalries (and gyms) that college sports fans would love if they gave it a shot. Oral Roberts, an NCAA Sweet 16 team this year, was NAIA not 30 years ago. Oklahoma City, an NAIA team, was in the same D1 league (MCC) as Loyola, Butler, & Xavier in the 80s.
-
College sports fans who act this way, especially of very good programs, are poison. The players aren’t even paid and there’s nothing more fun than a college sports gameday experience. Fans who “punch down” on programs or conferences with lesser resources are losers too. The Missouri Valley, for example, is a fun league that routinely overachieves in March Madness. Nothing wrong with mid-major, low-major, D2, D3, NAIA, or NJCAA sports.

If Evan Marshall was focused on baseball instead of vanity-searching anti-LaRussa tweets, Sox win the game.
-
Good for you! I make my living as an Instagram Influencer. I’m getting into Forex now for my next career in case influencing falls off.
-
The LaRussa fans in our group - none of us are over 30. We are diverse group of good-looking young men and women. Brooks is brilliant but next time I talk to him, I will tell him they need to sell Reinsdorf, Williams, Hahn, and more La Russa jerseys. I would buy those up in a minute. They are missing sales.
-
People just make things up to attack LaRusstans. We love and cheer for all the players. No players get booed. I campaigned for Marianne Williamson in the primary (she would’ve been AMAZING!) and voted all blue in the general election. I’m as far removed from the last POTUS on the spectrum as you can get, lol.

I have an announcement about an open invitation to other Tony fans who post here (tray, chisportsfan, etc). I've mentioned before that we have a LaRusstans group on Discord. Well, it's official: we're doing a #LaRusstansTakeover in the outfield of the May 26 game (next Wednesday) versus St Louis! We will have signs, LaRussa chants, everything to show our support. If you miss out on this one, we will do more in the summer (I've suggested one each for Jerry, Kenny, Ricky).
-
Yes, this was my instinctive take. Defying a coach’s signs is unquestionably wrong. This is what Tony should’ve focused entirely on, as he would’ve been 100% correct. The unwritten rules, sportsmanship, etc. aren’t really relevant and turned something he was a slam dunk correct on into a life of its own.
-
I would play for Tony LaRussa in a heartbeat. So would tray, Harold's Leg Lift, etc.
-
It means Lance needs to recognize who his boss is. It’s time for Jerry to bring in Stephanie McMahon to restore order from the renegades in the clubhouse.
-
Twins throw at Mercedes. This is exactly what LaRussa was trying to prevent and why signs are still in place for a 15-4 game. LaRussa was right - he just should’ve not said anything publicly.
-
-
Yep. You’re a professional. You can’t be openly defying your coaches at this level. It doesn’t matter in a 16-4 game, but it’s a long-term culture thing. If you let one player get away with it, others will follow. Nip it in the bud now.
-
Unfortunately for Marshall, scoring twitter points doesn’t lower his 6.75 ERA.
-
Exactly. I don't care about Mercedes running up the score or whatever. It's a culture thing. As a coach, you need every player obeying coaching signs. You see these things in HS baseball, but players should know better before they get to the MLB level.
-
Listening to coaches is Baseball 101. If you let one guy openly defy coaching, that spreads to the rest of the team. You nip it in the bud now before it becomes a problem. Every baseball team I played on, players who ignored their coaches were dealt with. Good coaches never let that fly.
-
The 2 best teams by run differential are managed by the 2 oldest managers - Tony La Russa & Dusty Baker. Baseball fans are learning quickly just how important experience is in clubhouse management and sport psychology. Much like the real world, people collectively undervalued just how good the experienced, successful, older professionals were and overvalued the "hot" young names. I see the success of La Russa and Baker sparking a nationwide reckoning on ageism and you'll see more general managers/athletic directors hire older coaches in search of replicating the next La Russa.
