  1. I was reading this article and saw this.. The legendary Ronnie "Woo Woo" Wickers woo-wooed a lot from behind home plate, high-fived the slackened hands around him, and posed for a photo with a newborn. When an elderly, ill-humored woman a few rows over finally snapped, "Would you sit down and shut up!" Woo Woo was for a moment crestfallen, then waved and responded, "I love you!" Killing her with Cubbiness. Couple things...How does this guy afford to be at spring training...Do the cubs pay for him to go? Who the f*** would want a picture with him let alone hand over their newborn to get one? Kudos to the old lady. I have no idea how I would handle it if woo woo was a Sox fan and doing his spiel the whole game. It would drive me absolutely nuts.
  2. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) I'm not a violent person but when I saw the video I wanted to beat this guy's face in with a tire iron. He deserves a brutal beat down. I'm not even sure someone like this can be rehabilitated. To violently punch and kick a women like that is beyond my comprehension. I hate that all he can get is aggravated battery. If he beat a man like that aggravated battery is fine, but to beat a defenseless woman deserves more.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 22, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) Well that asshole needs a lot more than to be fired. He needs to be prosecuted for Agg Bat. But I take issue with the statement that this is why people don't trust the police. Just like we all try (to varying extents) not to judge someone based on race, religion of other things, I think its small-minded if people see some jerk like this and assume all the cops are untrustworthy. Chicago has something like 13,000 sworn officers. Even if only 5% are scumbags, that's 650 scumbags in uniform out there ready to do something like this. But I can tell you from experience that if you run into 10 cops on the street, 9 of them are likely to be more than upstanding. Chicago as a department in particular does have some serious systemic issues, though. They need real leadership, which they haven't had with the last couple Supers. And guys like this need to be made examples of. Fire him, and then prosecute him for as much as you can. Throw in the side charges too. Bury him. I hope he gets some jail time and every inmate knows he is a cop. This POS deserves the beat down!!
  4. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 08:27 AM) And I look forward to saying, "Hell, even *I* could have made solid contact with that when BA strikes out on a hanging breaking ball..." See how that works two ways? I'm sick and tired of the BA love around here. It's disgusting. Go get a room. And yes, I realize this villifies me around here -- OMG he said something negative about BA so he's on the hate list! So f'ing what. BA sucks...and this insane BA love sucks even more. I'm tired of it. The wheels fell off that bandwagon before it even started moving. Call it a hunch, but I'm gonna go so far as to say this BA bandwagon full of Soxtalkers are secretly WISHING Pods and Erstad would fail just so they can claim how right they were about BA. You making contact with any major league pitch is a wet dream. My example was reality based. It is just a fact that there are many balls that Erstad can't get to that Brian can. I am a fan of Erstad...I love his attitude and work ethic. I just didn't see him being brought here as a starting center fielder. Now if he came to camp and won the job outright, more power to him, but that just isn't the case. What is this hate list you speak of? I don't think anyone puts you on a list. I do think saying BA sucks lessens your credibility, cause it's just not true. In fact, he is outplaying Erstad at this point and Erstad has had way more opportunities. I'm not wishing anyone fails. I'm just wishing the players that give the sox the best chance to win are on the field. IMO that is BA.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) I look forward to asking for Eduardo Perez every game we face a lefty. I look forward to saying "Brian woulda had that" on 65% of the balls that land in the gaps and in front of the centerfielder.
  6. To me that goal is just a lucky shot. He dove and swatted his stick and it went in. Here are some great goals...not sure of the language. Man I miss good Blackhawk hockey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTy30lYpRvo

  8. QUOTE(Cali @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) They play that song 8,000 times a day on the radio out here, and I actually think it's a pretty good song, but I swear about 4,000 of the times I heard it, I thought it was a girl singing. Wow I've never heard it on the radio here. I heard them on Leno a while back, but I was in the other room and didn't see them singing. When I got into the room the song was over and I just saw the band standing there. I had thought the girl in the band was the singer until I just recently went and watched the video. I wonder if they'll start getting airplay here. It usually starts out west and moves its way over.
  9. Anyone listen to Silversun Pickups?? I've been rocking to a song called "Lazy eye". I love songs that begin with a catchy mellow beat and then POW they grab my attention with some unanticipated rocking. Anybody know if the album is any good. can check out lazy eye here... http://music.yahoo.com/ar-21971531-videos--Silversun-Pickups
  10. QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) I think Simon said that Diana Ross would wail when she heard Sanjaya's rendition of the song. yeah yeah that's it.
  11. QUOTE(WhiteSoxFan1 @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) Maybe I have a horrible taste, and maybe im blinded by biasness, but I thought his performance this past week and 3 weeks ago "waiting on the world" were pretty good. No they were not vocal range masterpeices, but I like his style for some reason. Despite being low pitched, hes always in pitch and has a soothing voice. Maybe he is out of his league for what they are looking for with absolute tremendous range and energetic singing, but to say he absolutly sucks and cannot sing is abserd in my eyes. Your blinded by your bias. He is so far away from everyone else on that show. Simon said it sounded like wailing, not that he sounded like a screaming whale, either way, that isn't even close to the nasty things Simon has said to past contestants.
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) I don't think a player ever gets the average of the top 5 salaries in the league. From the CBA, it seems that, the third time a player gets franchised, he gets either the average of the top 5 salaries of whichever position has the highest average for top 5 salaries (qb, I imagine), or 120% of the average of the top 5 at his position, or 144% of his prior year salary. From the CBA: Ahh...that's what it is...average of the top 5 salaries of the highest paid position. I knew it was different from the first tag of top 5 of their position.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) If things go well (and assuming no trades are imminent), Pods will be ready for opening day, Anderson will start in CF, and Erstad with be the 4th OF. I may be the only one who feels this way, so I'll say it. I have a feeling that, if he does indeed get to start in LF, Pods will have the best year of his career all-around. OBP of .350-.360 with another increase in his walk total, 75-80% SB% by not forcing as often, decent situational hitting, and defense in LF getting a bit closer to average (though as usual his speed has to offset his weak arm and not-great judgement). If everything you wrote comes true that would be ideal.
  14. Nobody responded to the articles I posted? Are those scientists totally full of s***? Are they paid by oil companies? Do their findings hold water at all? Is there any room for discussion? Now I don't have the knowledge in this field to know or not know if what they are reporting is true, but some of you here do and haven't addressed it.
  15. QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 01:11 AM) I totally thought I clicked the films thread.Damnit,I find knew ways to ruin my own posts everyday.lol you ruined this one by spelling "new" "knew"
  16. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) But why can't they franchise him? From the CBA, Article XX: I'm not saying the Bears would franchise him, but I don't think he can do anything to prevent that. Oh they totally can. I was just explaning the whole 6 weeks thing. It isn't a loophole at all. All it means is Briggs gets credit for an accrued season. The Bears can then lay the tag on him again if they choose. The only difference I beleive is now he would get the average of the top 5 salaries in the league, not just the LB position. Where as without playing those 6 weeks....it's as if the year didn't even count and he is still full property of the bears. If they franchised him again...I'm not sure, but I think it would only count as a first year franchise tag cause the previous year is void if he doesn't come back for 6 games. Either way...I still beleive there is no way Briggs sits out next year.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) AJP seems to have been sent with that 3-2 pitch to Uribe. Can't for the life of me figure out why
  18. Yeah I don't know much about him, but I've seen him work a few times and been pretty impressed.
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) Very good post. Also: I didn't know that Brian Anderson was the next Justin Morneau. Of course you don't know. Just as the people in Minnesota didn't know Morneau was the next Morneau.
  20. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) And luckily, the 2006 stats don't carry over to BA's first AB in 2007....well what would be his first AB of 2007 if he made the team. Fact remains, Anderson is our best option in CF defensively, and for consistency. Yet, because Ozzie doesn't care for him, for whatever reasons I don't care about, he won't get a fair shake, and we'll go with the ever speedy Erstad/Pods/Dye OF. Maybe Ozzie doesn't like him because he looks like a little b**** at the plate???
  21. QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) Weren't alot of people trying to trade Crede because he just wouldn't hit enough? Alot of people were also skeptical that Uribe could be an everyday player because of his wold and inconsistent offense. Also with Garland while having logged MLB innings was trying to be pushed out because he could make it past the 5 or 6th inning under Manuel. Guillen stuck with these guy when alot of people wanted to run them out of town. We have short memories here if people don't remember this. These players were succeessful because Guillen stuck with them for whatever reason. These players were not rookies but were all young unproven players when Guillen took over. By a lot of people I think you're speaking of fans. Some fans maybe wanted to trade crede/uribe or run them out of town, but I don't think the organization had those plans at all. Like I said I don't really have a side on the "young" player argument. I don't know if Ozzie likes or dislikes young guys and I do't pretend to know, I just think these examples as proof he does, are poor. but anywhoo....back to Anderson
  22. QUOTE(supernuke @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) I am sure some veteran off the scrap heap could have been found. After all Ozzie would surely play any veteran over any young player. That's why I said second full season. He was hardly a Veteran. They weren't established veterans with years of service, but they were in fact the established starters at their respective positions. They didn't have to win the job. So because Ozzie didn't come to the Sox his first year as a manager, and dump the third basemen the team had been grooming and the shortstop they acquired, is your argument that he likes young players??? I'm not on either side in this "young player" arguement, but this is kind of a stretch. My only arugment is Brian should be the starting CF. I can give a s*** if he is young old or whatever. I don't know Ozzies reasons so I won't pretend to, but if BA is in the minors this season...our D is in trouble.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 10:04 AM) Right. Ozzie Guillen just hates young players. See: Ryan Sweeney, Jon Garland, Danks, Boone Logan who he gave a great chance to last year. Anderson probably belongs in AAA for another half-season. I don't see how some of you don't see that. Anderson belongs in CF. CF defense is more important then CF offense on this team. I don't see how you don't see that.
  24. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) I dont know, I just heard John Clayton talking about it and Lance seemed to know what he was talking about. Ill look around though. The way I believe it works is he can sit out the first 10 weeks and come back for the last 6 weeks, to get credit for a season. If he didn't return he'd still be under contract for the following year. If he did return for the final 6 weeks The Bears would have to take him in and pay him, but they don't have to play him or even activate him for the games. Briggs will also be fined $14,000 for each day he misses of training camp.
