Speaking of Glass Arms
Controlled Chaos replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Attorney here just told me Prior is done for the year. His friend is a ticket broker and just called him and told him he is gonna eat tons of tickets now. He said the guy has some inside information...Who knows....just passing on what I heard...and he said wood is out for at least April. -

If you dont think it means you're in a gang...then turn it sideways and go start walking around K Town. I think you'll be enlightened.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) In all honesty, it bothered me because she spoke her mind (albeit a very anti-american mind) and was labelled a b****. You know, if I had just been almost killed by hostages and then was thrown into another near death experience I would come out swinging too. I think the problem is that when men in this story spoke their minds no one called them names--it bothered me because it was the woman who was called names--and very quickly. And to be honest, I think killing a 19 month old child is a far worse crime than speaking out against the US. And, therefore, might merit stronger words. Thanks for clarifying ChiSoxy. I also agree killing a child is a far worse crime. I don't agree one situation allows use of a word while another doesn't. Either way...thanks for letting me know your opinion...

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) Queen Prawn, ChiSoxyGirl, and I believe Steff, all weighed in on this. It's more than 1 person, and almost universal among our regular female contributors. I didn't read one lady stand up for calling the journalist a b****. So is it more mature and polite to dismiss their concerns or call them whiney? You decide. I would rather be a gentleman and find another way to describe a woman who I disagree with. I am SOOO confused. At first I thought the ladies were offended because we were saying something about the journalist and not her boyfriend. Then I thought it was because maybe they didn't understand my take on the situation. Now you're tellign me it's just the word "b****" that is offensive?? I had no idea this was the case. I mean I can go without saying that word...it's not really something I say that often anyway. I have read that word before here and never really saw the sensitivity I see now. I just saw 'b****' in the thread about the lady that duck taped the kids mouth and killed him. No outrage over there, probably because we all agree what she was. But if there is a topic where opinions differ, then the word becomes offensive?? I don't get it....too confusing for me....as little as I use it, it's not a problem for me to stop.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) Meaning I agree we should drop it and let the dust settle. BTW, what the hell is Sort Guld beer??
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) We should probably wait for the dust to settle. I guess since they are allies in this, and she just went through one of the most terrifying situations imaginable. Kidnapped -- I'm gonna die like all the rest Rescued -- I'm gonna live Shot at by the greatest killing machine the world has even seen -- Having someone die while laying on top of you -- I can understand making comments that days, weeks, and months from now, she may wish to reconsider. Hell, people get worked up over smaller issues here and post crap they want to take back later. And this is just a message board. Imagine what s*** would be posted if Southsider weapons . . . HINT to Admins: >> great graphic coming Consider it squashed.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) Well, she is entitled to her opinion, no? Yeah everyone has opinions no matter how ridiculous. I never said she couldn't speak...I am saying she is a b**** for what she said. That is my opinion...we are both entitled to it.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) What did you mean when you wrote our soldiers would have risked their lives for her? I assumed you meant she should not criticize them. No it was pretty much the attempted murder rap that got my panties in a bunch.
-
QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Either way, let's cool down the rhetoric here. I don't wanna see this get any uglier. I must be really missing something here.... Can someone explain to me what is so "ugly" in this thread?? I haven't read any personal attacks or anything.... what gives
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) Not her specifically, but Are you saying that no one should criticize the military because they risk their lives for us? Does that work both ways? We should not criticize the Italian, English, etc. armies because they would risk their lives for us? I can think of a few cases where the military was criticized and rightly so Kent State Chinese Embassy My Lai Massacre Whether or not this turns out to be legit or not, is probably months away. I know if I was just mistakenly shot at, had a man die shielding my body and protecting me, I wouldn't be saying "cool! no problem, mistakes happen in a war zone, Hee Hee can you believe what boneheads we were?" Did I ever say no one should criticize the military? She didn't criticize them she said they tried to kill her!!!! I have friends there...I have family there...she is basically saying they are murderers when I know dam well there was a good possibility those same guys would have died for her. She can f***in criticize all she wants...but to make a baseless accusation of murder is way past criticism.

I seriously had no idea this was even about gender until Tex's post I was wondering why people were getting upset at the use of the word b**** to describe her...
-
Her boyfriend is a f***in jagoff!!!!!!!! Honestly though...I can give a f*** about him. She was the one over there, she is the one our soldiers would have risked their lives and possibly died to save, and she is the one that demeaned them by saying she can't rule out they were trying to assasinate her. That's what infuriated me the most...not the boyfriends comments. Hell, there are millions of men and women that hate the US and slander this country all the time...I have appropriate names for all of them, but in this case I was focusing on her, since she was the one involved.
-
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Since she is a "b****" does that make the dead man an asshole or a bastard or both? I think she is a b**** for stating that our soldiers tried to murder her when in fact those same soldiers would have risked their lives to save her if the opportunity presented itself. To tarnish our soldiers when they would protect you with their lives if need be, is cause to be labeled a b**** IMO. As for the secret service agent...May he rest in peace. He never accused the US soldiers of attempting to assasinate him. IMO he performed his actions with honor and gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks for focusing on the most meaningless part of the post and actually making a post regarding it. Let me clear it up for you... "You sped through a patrol due to your disgust for the war. You weren't going to stop for any American checkpoint...they shouldn't be there in the first place....so f*** em. You were just released from being held captive, and you weren't going to be detained any longer in this country than you had to be."
-
The thing that really pisses me off is our soldiers wouldn't bat an eye to risking their life to save this lady. If we got information that she was held up in a house our guys would go in there in a heartbeat and risk their lives to save her. No questions asked...They would die, without hesitation in trying to rescue her. I mean give me a f***in break lady...you want to make baseless accusations...here's mine You sped through the checkpoint due to your disgust for the war. You weren't going to stop for any American checkpoint...they shouldn't be there in the first place....so f*** em. You were just released from being held captive, and you weren't going to be detained any longer in this country than you had to be. Where's my facts for making this statement?? I have none....where's yours b****???

"3 Brits die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue." DOH!!! I just tested a 9 volt like that yesterday!!!

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) Another night, no 300 game. Got another 602, the hard way, with a 159 in the second game (4 splits!). Dam evil thats a lot of 600 series...what's your average? I always shoot for a 600, but rarely get it...I'm too inconsistent. I shot a 625 last week though. My average has stayed right around 180 all year My best game goes like so: 8 X X X X X X X X X X 9 = 277 Here's some video clips to help some things wite was trying to explain. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/k...kVideo.htm#Ball

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) There's always been sexual thoughts, its just up to the parents to "Control" the "Chaos" (sorry, had to do that, haha) As a kid reaches puberty, he's gonna be interested in the opposite sex, etc. and the absolute worst thing a parent can do is completely deny it like it doesn't exist. That just leads to uninformed choices for the kids, makes it look a lot more appealing and leads to much more risk behavior. (The same can be said about drugs etc.) How about an actual discussion of a risk-benefit analysis? I think if parents stop letting the TV, PlayStation, X-Box or the computer be the child's babysitter then we wouldn't have to blame "movies, TV, video games" etc. for the ills of the world. There's always been violence and sex -- so its obvious that these current incarnations in movies etc. are not the cause of the problems -- its just another symptom of poor parenting (i.e. putting GTA: San Andreas in the hands of a 6 year old) blaming something convenient instead of parents taking responsibility for the little cabbages they spit out. I agree with ya here, but those are answers to the same problems that have been tackling parents for ages. Explaining the things that any kid can see on the internet today is a whole different story. Even good parenting can't help what a kid might stumble upon doing a google search.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) There's more to the internet than porn. And I for one have never seen a chick blowing a horse. I agree...I love the internet....but facts are facts and you have access to things I didn't even imagine up in my raging hormonal mind.
-
Not that I am old or anything, but things are way more advanced and kids learn about a lot more s*** earlier than I ever did and I'm just wondering if anyone thinks it will have a lasting effect? I mean if you are 30 or up...Just think what it was like first time you saw a playboy or something. It was like a big deal. Whoa...titties. Hell. now kids see that way before we ever did and they see a hell of a lot more. Things that were taboo to us....they can see anytime they want. I mean its one thing to see tits and ass and a whole other thing to see gang bangs, chicks with animals, dominatrix stuff. I mean just think of some of the sick images you have seen online and imagine how the hell you would have reacted or what you would have thought if you were 13 seening it. How do kids handle it? How do parents handle it? come on son....sit down, lets have a talk about women blowing horses? I mean WTF how do you handle that??
