Not a fan of the kneeling myself, but I think this shows that fears he won’t get along with Tim and others are overblown. If anything, we need a bit of a hardass to take our talent and iron out some of the goofiness (looking at you, Eloy). Besides the bullpen idiocy, Ricky never seemed to do that. My biggest gripe with TLR is age. For all our core pieces that are gonna be here until 2025 or so, that might be pushing it for LaRussa. I would have preferred a guy who was gonna take this crew to several playoffs and then bring in the next batch of talent and be here for years, if not decades.

Bench coach? Guess I'm out of the loop, what happened to McEwing?

Yeah! Stupid rich asshole needs to die so our team can flourish! /s

The other White Sox fan in the office (which is unique, because I live/work on the other side of the country) announced this move a few years ago. My loud reaction to the entire office was a loud, "What the fuck". So I'm not a huge fan. I wanted Hinch. But I'll give it a chance. His game management will be loads better than Renteria's, and while he's a dinosaur, he's a smart baseball mind so I can't imagine he'll reject analytics out of hand. And like others have said, he managed Ricky so Timmy shouldn't be an issue.

White Sox fan taunts Astros during ALCS

Goodness, man. We’re not arguing about the color of the sky- it’s all subjective. There isn’t a lone objective answer or valid point that can be made regarding the Astros scandal. I don’t think it’s all that egregious, you and others do. It’s the epitome of agree-to-disagree. -

This is so convoluted at this point that I've forgotten what the actual point is. Tim Kanter is a pompous goofball who takes this way too seriously. The Astros shouldn't have cheated, but baseball's had problems with cheaters for decades. The other cheaters did far more damage and went totally unpunished. Makes it hard to care about this particular instance of it. That is my point. You're welcome to disagree. -

The poster I was responding to was being snarky, and plenty of people are praising this dude on the first page including calling him a legend, but that's beside the point. About the scandal itself, baseball has besmirched itself for years. I grew up during the steroid era. Our single-season home run record is undeniable bullshit several times over, and so is our career home run record. Nothing was done about Bonds and McGwire and countless others except for them not getting HOF votes. Except more and more I read that those guys should finally be allowed into Cooperstown (not everybody says this, but there are certainly many who are ready to move on from any grudges). So that's cool and those guys merit no punishment or lasting damnation for irreversibly fucking up the game, but this does? Some people say they should be banned for life. Nope. Not when people like Nelson Cruz are finding magical second winds at 40. I love the game, but it's stained and there's no going back. Prevent the Astros and anybody else from doing this in the future, but the past is the past. Also, from the sound of it, Jose Altuve hated the scheme and would yell at people who tried to employ it during his at bats. FWIW. -

Well, rather than discussing the event and what they think of it, which should be the point of a message board, some people just want to insert their lame ass snark. It's dumb. I've made my point, I think this dude's a screechy dork. If anyone wants to disagree and think this dude's some sort of hero and the Astros are total villains, that's their right. Have fun with it. -

I mean, Hinch and Luhnow got suspended for a year. And the lack of fans and fewer games obviously wasn’t related to any desire that the Astros get off scot free. What more would you have wanted them to do? -

It’s kind of annoying how no one understands my point. What the Astros did isn’t OK. They should be made fun of. They should be heckled and booed. They should be reminded of it, and they should have to read all sorts of clever, insulting signs when they go on the road. But this dude? This dude came off as preening. Change the wording, make the taunts FUNNY, and carry on. That’s it. I love baseball and I love the White Sox. When I was ten, a bad loss could make me cry. When I was 20, a bad loss could put me in a foul mood for a day or two. At 35, I’m over it pretty much as soon as I turn it off. I’ll still have my opinions and thoughts about what path we should take, but it’s not anything I could actually affect so it doesn’t really matter. I enjoy this but there are far more important issues in my own life. -

Because it is just a game. Heckling them is fine, but don’t be so serious about it. Reducing your chants to “shame on you” or wondering how to explain the hiring of AJ Hinch to your children is jumping the shark. In the midst of 2020, we can all see that there are much more important things to get worked up about. Carlos Correa banging on trash cans to send signals to a teammate is douchey, but it didn’t lead to anyone getting stuffed into a cattle car or starving to death or otherwise having their human rights violated. -

It’s a game. It’s supposed to be fun. We’re not talking about a genocide here. Want to heckle them? Go for it, but make it fun. Bring a metal trash can out on the balcony, crank up your megaphone, and bang on that thing in senseless patterns. Or shout things like, “Give me a trash can and I’ll make my grandma hit better than Carlos Correa.” This dude just stood up there and blared out, “Jose Altuve cheated. Shame on you, Jose.” What’s genius about that? It’s the same sort of turgid hectoring you’d find at a political protest these days. -

Sure, but it’s not like the Astros cheated Clayton Kershaw out of his pension and caused him to starve to death. They “stole” a championship ring from him. Should they have done it? Just like the ‘roid guys, no. But the endless, unforgiving moral preening towards them is a bit silly. Nobody died, let it go. -

Goodness, it’s a game. It was three years ago. Get over it, dude. -
LaRussa's 76 years old. Hard pass.

Eh I never get that joke anyway. I just don't know what the hangup is for some people here. How will I explain this my kids? Will this make us the bad boys of baseball or not? Who cares! Will AJ Hinch help us win baseball games and develop our talent to their ultimate capacity? Absolutely the only factor anyone of us should care about.
-
? Is this one of those spots where the kids would say, "OK boomer"?

AJ Hinch: does it matter to you that he cheated?
Danny Dravot replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Where did I suggest that? He was supposed to be out of baseball for a year. He was out of baseball for a year. The offense wasn’t premeditated murder so let’s call it water under the bridge and moooove on. -
AJ Hinch: does it matter to you that he cheated?
Danny Dravot replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think this is the best point that can be made. There are some actions in life for which I wholeheartedly believe there can be no mercy nor second chances. Actions for which the excuse “he served his time” matters not. Banging on a trash can for a slight advantage in a game, where the prime victims are your own fans who now have their championship memories besmirched, is NOT in that category. I have always considered myself a diehard Sox fan. I guess I lag behind some people here. If Hinch is the most likely to manage us well during our now open contention window, hire him. I want to watch enjoyable, competitive baseball games. I want to go to the playoffs. I want to win championships. I will teach my children how to be moral and decent humans, but AJ Hinch’s employment status will have nothing to do with that. -
I wish him the best in recovery and whatever career awaits him, but as far as White Sox news goes, I hope and expect that this is totally irrelevant.
-
Maybe it's that my kids are still super young, or maybe it's that I live far out of state and always will, but I have zero intention of using my love of White Sox baseball to teach morality to my children. Avoid wife beaters, let the roid freaks play for somebody else, but it's not the end of the world if we hire a guy who didn't totally go ape when some of his players came up with a ridiculous scheme. Either way, it's certainly not going to impact the ethics curriculum of my toddlers.

Sox Press Conference - 11am 10/12 - RR out as Sox manager
Danny Dravot replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is everything I thought they were incapable of. I thought for sure Mazara would be back, Renteria would be back, Cooper would be back. They went to the playoffs and Mazara had COVID but was doing better right at the end so why not? Respect the pedigree and don't be edgy! So color me very impressed. I don't really have any preferences for who takes over these positions, but I see Jirschele getting a lot of love here. Why's that? (Not challenging it, just don't know anything about the guy- what suggests he'd be a great candidate for the bigs?)
