  1. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) The World is a Vampire- Smashing Pumpkins (totally not the right name) ^ Bullet with Butterfly Wings
  2. One lefty in the pen. Haigwood if you need two.
  3. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) All i care about is the final result. Although Michigan didn't play well when they had the ball. Still they shut down one of the best offenses in college football. Here's proof that I call 'em like I see 'em. The Wolverines have played 3 consecutive halves of defense. It might not sound like much, but that makes them the third best team in the Big Ten. -- Only tOSU and PSU have played more than 3 halves of defense this season. -- If they keep improving, the BIG GAME will be just that. The Winner of the Big Ten will have 2 losses in conference if Michigan continues to step it up. On another note, WTF happened to the defense in the Big Ten. -- Iowa's got the personnel in their back 7 to be good, but their scheme allows them to be picked apart by good teams. Michigan had an incredibly porous secondary until the last 3 halves. Wisconsin is not nearly as good as they are ranked, solely because they have no defense. Minnesota, LOL. MSU wins only because they can score 50 points a game. What happened to 3 yards and a cloud of dust?
  4. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) It would be nice if ESPN was right for a change. You mean like listing Aubrey Huff as a free agent in this very article. /And I like Schwartz. He does good stuff for the NYT and the Numbers Game would make some of you who live to bash Moneyball understand that statistical analysis is nothing new.
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) Umm -- maybe? Brian Sabean /Evil Laughter.
  6. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) why he will get his money. That is sort of how Buehrle's contract was structured. Buehrle signed his before his first year of arbitration. Garland is in his second season of arbitration. That makes a big difference. $7M will be the base salary for garland in '06.
  7. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Durazo is always hurt. No thanks. Yep. Thank god we have the picture of health that is Frank Thomas.
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Well he got tommy john surgery around the first of september so i am figuring he will only sign an incentive laden deal. Tommy john can f*** up a hitter almost as much as it does to a pitcher. I am thinking one year deal with a base salary of 2-3 million and can make up to as much as 8 million in incentives. Thanks, like I said, I didn't know his injury status. -- If Frank is supposed to be back and healthy to start the season, then I go after Durazo as an insurance policy. Frank, as much as I love the guy, probably will never get 500 ABs in a season again. If Frank can get you the first couple of months before he breaks down, you can have another injured defensive seive waiting in the wings.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) Brian Giles will more than likely not even make it to November 12th. Kevin Towers is hell-bent on keeping him in San Diego and has already reportedly offered a 3yr/$30M deal. No way the Sox offer him anything near that. How about a guy who fell off the radar? Erubial Durazo... (though admitedly, I don't know anything about his health status) -- I'd bring him in along with Frank.
  10. First play of the NU/UM game. NU has as many sacks as Iowa did last week.
  11. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) Wow, NIU sucks :headshake Am I the only one who thinks the new Florida and Va. Tech Nike jerseys are absolutely horrendous? I haven't seen the FLA ones, yet. Va tech is terrible though. Nike is also responsible for the Oregon tragedy.
  12. Top Ten Reasons Why the White Sox Still Suck? 1. They can't speak english -- Yeah, it's not like a White Sox player sat in front of Congress and fiegned ignorace of the English language. See #8. 2. Sox belong on my feet 3. They need to go out of this country for talent -- See #1. And Neifi Perez. Santo is playing 3B in '06. 4. They didn't play against the angels best pitcher, for long,: roberto colon(injured) -- Roberto? OK. Who is that? 5. They didn't play against, for long, Roger Clemens(injured) -- Bulls***. He's a pussy who couldn't take getting his ass handed to him on a nation stage. 6. The Red Sox best pitcher in game 1 of the playoffs in round one was matt clement, he sucks. -- Agreed. So. 7. Minute Maid park roof was open, so Astros got screwed. -- LOL Are you kidding? 8. A.J. Persinski ran to first when he shouldnt of and got the call. -- Should of, Are you kidding me? Of is a verb now? 9. They got lucky. -- YEP -- 110 wins of luck. 10. CUBS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --- Dude, they finished behind the Brewers

  14. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) Have you been reading me at Nats Blog? Sadly, No. Had you mentioned something on BB, I might have. I think we discussed it over at BTF recently.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) No team in baseball will trade for Duque to be a starting rotation pitcher. He has serious health questions, and his contract isn't exactly cheap this season. Rowand/Marte/Duque would get you laughed at by Theo. To get Manny, it would more be like Contreras and Chris Young for Manny. Boston's rotation is full of league average pitchers who are paid much more heavily than Duque. Perhaps I think too much of his value, but you are underestimating it. Like I said. If Boston rejects that deal, FINE. Move on. It just so happened that many of Boston's needs (CF, SP, and RP) are players that we could easily replace. There will be other teams that would be happy to have those players I mentioned.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) Manny runs like a 35 year old catcher if you factor in his laziness. He turns doubles into singles because of his lack of hustle and posing for balls that he thinks are homeruns. He is obviously a better hitter than Konerko though. I agree with fathom. I just think that to the White Sox, bringing back the face of the franchise is more important than adding a guy like Manny. Plus, it would be cheaper to resign Paulie than it would cost in players to trade and added salary for Manny. Which is why you offer the package I quoted earlier in the thread. Rowand, Marte, Duque. -- Rowand can easily be replaced, both offensively and defensively, by Brian Anderson. Marte is as good as gone anyway, why not use him to get Manny?. Cotts proved we don't need him. Duque is a league average pitcher, who can throw from the pen(where boston needs help) or the backend of the rotation. Those are three players who essentially are easily replacable from the White Sox perspective. You're not losing anything. Except Salary. Oh, and it's a nice chunk of change too. Rowand $3.25, Marte 2.25, and Duque 4.5+. -- $10M is a lot. If Boston doesn't want to got for it. Fine, but those three are the first 3 players to go from the current team. They are the most easily replaceable. Use them to fill your weakness (LHed bat, DH, and 1b?) through some other team.
  17. Washington is an extreme pitcher's park. For the next couple of years, while they wait for their new stadium, they would be smart to sign lots of guys like Loaiza. -- Players on the cheap, who have a high flyball rate would stand to benefit the most. -- Sign them to 2 year deals, backloaded. When they put up a sweet ERA in the first season, you can ship them out for actual good players in return.
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) I think the highest the Sox offer Paulie is $13 million a year. $20 million a year for a player is a lot more than $13. The Konkero Quandry isn't about the $$$. It's about the years. A Smart team is going to want nothing to do with Konerko at $15+M in 5 years. He's got old players skills in a 29 year old body. He runs like a 35 year old catcher. He doesn't figure to be an effective player in 3 years. I'd much rather pay $20M/yr to a better player, who is much more likely to be productive throughout the length of his contract than the same amount of money(just over a longer period of time) for a less productive player, who figures to break down before his contract expires.
  19. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Lester? manny's not being traded with any prospects. Boston would be smart (read: will) to wait until Konerko and Giles have signed to force the hand of other teams too. They won't even be eating part of his salary. If he's traded it will be for players who can contribute today, or top prospects who are very close.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) I think the team would get along great with Manny. I could just see Buehrle and Manny doing the whole pointing thing, etc. We're basically playing with house money right now. Why not take a chance? Marte, Rowand, and El Duque for Manny.
  21. QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) See the 2005 Red Sox who made changes. Red Sox had no choice. 8 different players who were Free Agents. 2003 Angels returned 24 of 25 players from the previous season.
  22. I thought he was gonna get the axe this season. They just got him a little early.
  23. I know this is going to push down all of the "where I can I find that one song?" and "Did you see these pictures of AJ?" posts. Too Bad. Deal with it. I've had these two links in my back pocket since about 6. I didn't post 'em cuz I wanted to see if they would end up here. I went out and had a few drinks, checked back here. Still nothing. These were the type of links that I almost never got to post here because, by the time my lame ass stumbled across them, they had already been posted to the Best Sox Board on the net. Man Soo Lee's favorite Korean Cartoonist. Everyone's favorite WindSock gets Pwned (by a Cubs fan too) Ouch. Now back to your regularly scheduled "Any Famous Sox Fans?" and "[insert media outlet here] said something that I completely blew out of proportion" threads. Carry on.
