QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 13, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) Lost Nation is now officially lost. That joke would have been better if Lost Nation was located where I remember it. -- I just looked on a map, and I was off by say, 100 miles.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) either way Penn State is in. Also if Michigan does make the BCS Wisconsin will go to the Capitol One Bowl because they have never been their and it is Barry's last year. So the Cap one would have a choice between OSU and Wisconsin, and they would choose Wiscy because it's Barry's last year? Pulease. We get it. You think Michigan walks on water. tOSU is the spawn of the devil. But let's be realistic. Cap One will take the Buckeye every time. -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:56 PM) 20-10 Iowa Final. Kirk Ferrentz, THANK YOU! My Predictions for the Big Ten Bowl Games are this: Orange Bowl: Michigan Sugar Bowl: Penn State Capitol One Bowl: Wisconsin Outback Bowl: Ohio State Sun Bowl: Northwestern Alamo Bowl: Minnesota Motor City Bowl: Iowa Shame on you for counting out Michigan! BCS 1: Penn State BCS 2: Ohio State Cap One: Michigan Outback: Wisconsin Alamo: Iowa Sun: Minnesota Motor City: NW I don't remember the complete set of rules when it comes to Bowl selection, but expect everyone to avoid NW at all cost. Minnesota or NW could force the Alamo's hand if they finish 2 games better than Iowa. Given the choice on those bottom three though, it's going to be Iowa, Minn, NW every time. -
Thome article & rumored payroll increase

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) Here's an interesting article on replacing Konerko if he does leave: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true The following excerpt is for all of you guys who think the payroll is just going to jump to the $90-$95 million range. You can go back to last season and dig out the same articles from a year ago that said the Sox payroll was going to be I know what's being reported in the paper, but I've also followed this organization too closely, for too long, to take everything that's printed in those papers at face value without filtering them through my own patented Bulls*** Detector© and drawing my own conclusions. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:15 AM) Fish that.. it's 5:15 and I'm drunk. Hawks are gonna win tofay! The Hizzawks are the bizzomb. Maybe not, but it was nice to see the D-Line finally got the notice that football season started. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) I needed armor to walk out of that house! QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) As I said, Wells may be better but it's not that big a difference: Wells 2005: .269avg. 28HR .320OBP Salary: $3,070,000 Rowand 2005: .270.avg. 13HR 329OBP Salary: $2,000,000 The Phillies may rather have Wells, but Jays are the ones who turned the trade down. If the Sox take on the salary, the Phillies get their CF and clear up even more money. You're only citing one year though. 2003-'05 Wells -- .288/.340/.498 -- 84 HR 280 RBI Rowand -- .289/.342/.468 -- 43HR 162 RBI

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Um, are some people forgetting what we'd have to give up to get Delgado? It would probably cost the Sox Contreras, and put us without a 5th starter again. Yeah, perhaps more important that arguing about what we think the payroll will be next season. We should be asking about what FLA would be looking to get for Delgado. You know that Baltimore is going to come calling, and FLA is going to want some young pitching from them. -- The Sox would have to match that offer to even start the Kong/Delgado duo in motion.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Do people really believe our payroll is going to raise from $75 million to $95 to $100 million? No, I believe our payroll is going to increase to 90+M
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) If we kept Konerko and added Delgado, next years payroll would be roughly $100M (this includes estimated salaries of: Pierz, Crede, Gload, Harris, Viz, BMac, Cotts, Jenks, Garland, Anderson and Konerko) without subtracting any player's salary from the current 25 man roster. subtract rowand's $3.25 and the payroll = $96.75 subtract Rowand and Marte's salaries of ($3.25M + $2.25M) $5.5M and the payroll = $94.5M I really don't see this as being realistic. :droolingsmilie Like I said, in my gut, I see the starting point being at $90M. Before you even listed that figure with Rowand and Marte subtracted, I thought the ceiling was about $95M. There was a really crappy article by Mark Gonzales yesterday or today in the trib, saying the Sox would have trouble affording Konerko with the other contracts they had to pick up. I just laughed. Payroll, within reason, is not going to be an issue this season.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) All that doesn't mean that Reinsdorf is going to raise the payroll that much. Without a salary dump of some sort, we would need a $100 million payroll to re-sign Konerko for market value and add Delgado via a trade. Can I see those numbers? I'm not trying to be an ass. I just don't have the Sox projected payroll for '06 at hand, and think that Kong and Delgado can be put on the same roster for under 95M
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) Once again showing that Levine knows nothing. Levine needs to lay off the crack. He's been wrong countless times before. Did Reinsdorf just raise the payroll by $25 million or something? Look, attendence was up 20%. We hosted 6 playoff games, during which the Sox weren't required to pay rent/split amenities with the ISFA. We split MLBs take for all the division series between 12 teams. We split MLB's take for the LCS between 4 teams. We split MLB's take for the World series with the Astros. In each of the last 3-4 years, the Sox have put profit (as listed by Forbes) directly back into payroll.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) BOTH?? I believe (just my gut feeling) that the starting point for our payroll is about $90M next year.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) I really believe with their huge Japanese following, and need for a left handed power bat, Seattl would claim him in a second. The Red Sox would probably claimed him just for the f*** of it too. Here's the messed up thing.... I think if you claim him, you could take him to arbitration. He's in his first year of arb (entering his 4th year in the league), so I don't think he would be passed up by too many people. I could be wrong about this. I haven't found a good explanation of his situation anywhere
-
QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) He did a decent enough job for that non-championship Chicago team, but he's on the decline and is a strikeout factory. Check his post ASG numbers. .237/.300/.387-- He had way better numbers than JD in the first half, but was brutal in the second.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) Gets on base somehow every game? The guy had a freakin OBP of .329. Translated: Has the inate ability to "hit himself" with a pitch. His HBP heavy-OBP, which is the only thing that made his walk rate bearable this season, might actually be part of the reason for his drop in power becuase he was banged up all year, and it was almost certainly responsible for the inordinate amount of balls he dribbled weakly to the SS as he was leaning out over the plate only to get jammed by a fastball on the inner half.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Let Brian Borchard 2K6 Anderson stay in the minors... Joe Borchard was going to be a stud too... remember him... So forgive me if i'd rather not keep the underpaid guy who busts his ass every game and has never hit below .270 with gold glove defense.... AND IS PROVED!!!! Brian Borchard can stay in the minors... Trade him.... BUT DON'T TRADE OUR PROVEN TALENT TO MAKE ROOM FOR A ROOKIE!!!! NOT TO SAVE A FEW MILLION DOLLARS!!!! FOR A 7th starter we don't need... http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fanboy

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Um Mark Kotsay is the best CF in the game without a doubt. He was pretty much a statue out there this season. Great arm, but average range this season.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) Or you could trade him now while he still has value. Another subpar offensive season from him, and teams wouldn't be willing to give up much for him at all. From what it seems, mid-level players like Rowand, Orlando Hudson, and Mench are attracting a lot of attention, and there seems to be a pretty nice sized price tag for them also. Hudson and Rowand are attracting a lot of attention because they're not just mid-level players. Hudson is the best defensive 2B in the game. That + and average bat is extremely valuable. Rowand is one of the best CFers in the game. CF, specifically in a spacious ballpark, is the most important defensive posistion on the field. Rowand is also only a year removed from a top 10 OPS season in the AL. -- These guys are very good players. Mench can hit HRs, doesn't strike out a lot, and is cheap, thus his value.
