  1. Yeah, all we'd have to do is trade Josh Beckett to get him... Oh wait. We don't have a Beckett on our team. Nobody. Expesive guys who don't cost us a lot in terms of players are a much better fit for us, since we're trying to repeat, and have most everyone returning. We can add payroll. We should add payroll. I'm not giving up McCarthy so I can have a glorified Carl Everett again.
  2. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) That's not my personal opinion. Pierre strikes out less, he's faster, he steals more bases, and he's a better bunter. Those are all facts. Also, Pierre is a left-handed bat so his natural pull swing would be towards the right side of the infield allowing Podsednik to move from second to third with ease. Iguchi wants to hit homeruns. He also strikes out a lot. He is more suited to be batting sixth in the lineup. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) Its your personal opinion that Pierre would be better than Iguchi hitting in the #2 hole. And its mine that I would rather Iguchi there. This isn't what we should be arguing over. It should be whether the Sox will score more runs by upgrading their #2 position, where they posted a .276/.335/.422 line, or the #3 spot, where they managed just a .234/.296/.419. Only the Bay Area teams had less production from the #3 spot. There are much more pressing needs than "who should bat 2nd?" Kenny knows this. He ain't wasting his time appeasing Ozzie behind the scenes. He's going to do what's best for the club, and that's finding a LHed bat that can get on base and put the ball out of the yard.
  3. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Scroll back in this post. I've posted "Super Bears! Super Bowl!" In 4-12 seasons, when they win the final game of the year to avoid getting the top pick in the draft. It holds no meaning. It's just blind Optimism. I'ma Super Fan, b****.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) Couldn't we have both, seriously? I think we've shown that we could theoretically support a Konerko/Delgado lead team by trading a few of the (relatively) cheaper parts from our team. Philly's gonna have to eat much of Thome's contract because of his injury concerns. The article speculated half or even more. The Sox could easily support Kong at 12+M and Thome at $8M.
  5. Here's a little retro Cheat goodness. -- I posted it in another thread before I read this one... That is my hope. He's by far the most expendable player on the Sox. Losing Maggs would be a PR nightmare. Losing Carlos and his Huge salary would be great IMO.. Aaron Rowand can put up simillar numbers, and play better defensively. If Carlos can bring another arm, or solid lefty bat (JD Drew, Steve Finley) than I'm all for it. Finley sucked. Drew was injured. But the premise was right. Podsednik, and Pierzynski were "solid lefty bats." -- I guess it all worked out.
  6. I love reading old threads -- This wasn't from here, but it's great.... That is my hope. He's by far the most expendable player on the Sox. Losing Maggs would be a PR nightmare. 7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Cheat -- I hope your prediction comes through. Florida seems to want relief pitching, I wouldn't mind sending them two -- Vizcaino (if we still have control of him), Marte, and Rowand for Delgado. You may have to add a prospect to that deal, while subtracting Viz or Marte. They're going to want pitching, McCarthy specifically. I suppose they like Constreras too, but he makes way too much $$ for them. -- I would expect a deal of Rowand + Marte + one of the lefties Haigwood/Liotta/Gio That would save them about 8M in '06 and 10+M in '07, and they should be back to competing for the Wild Card in '07.
  8. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) Rowand's slugging is better. Rowand: .283 .337 .451 Pierre: .305 .355 .375 Pierre's role as a #2 hitter with us wouldn't be trying to hit homeruns and striking out a lot like Rowand. YES! Grounders to 2B win Championships. Remember when Pods hit that game winner right at Biggio? Oh and that routine 3-hopper that Blum tapped to Everett. I'll cherish those memories forever.
  9. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) One man's Big 10 bowl picks: PSU -- BCS OSU -- BCS Wisc -- Capital One Iowa -- Outback Michigan -- Alamo NW -- Sun Minn -- Music City. Again. Damnit. Although it's better than Xmas in Detroit. Mich will play on New Years (I'm refusing to acknowledge they're being played on the 2nd). Iowa could go the the Outback but it would be over Wisconsin, not Michigan. I also think Minnesota will get to go to El Paso, just because nobody wants NW.
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) I really think Iowa got Alamo with that bowl, if not even better. If they land in Alamo that destroy's ISU's chances. However, ISU still has a shot to get killed by Texas. Have you read something that said that the Alamo doesn't want an All-Iowa game?
  11. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) There never was any "terrorist love" around here, despite what deluded Brother Izzy may have conveyed. :headshake Praise Allah!
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) Ugh....that Iowa drubbing really hurts ISU. How so? Also, I can't wait to hear Josh's excuses.
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) If we're talking just defense, sure. But the total package and what another #2 hitter and leadoff guy and a career .300 hitter could bring to the sox with his speed, Pierre could add a lot to the sox. Esp given the sox have Crede, and Uribe as similar hitters to Rowand well it's not like Pierre isn't a similar batter to Podsednik, or Ozuna for that matter.
  14. This Pierre rumor smells like crap. It makes sense only if you've had a full-frontal lobotomy. Pierre is good player. He has a nice career BA, and has good speed. But he, like podsednik, is a deceptively poor outfielder. Trading a guy who had a .900 OPS in '04 and should have won a GG in CF in '05 for a slap and tickle speedster would be retarded. Especially with Brian Anderson waiting in the wings. Pierre is coming to Chicago, and he will be a good player for the Cubs, but he's not a fit here. Rowand may very well be headed to Florida too, but it won't be for another CFer. We don't need CFers. We do need LHed OPS machines who can play 1B/DH/OF, though. Sound like anyone Florida is currently shopping? That's all i'm saying on the subject. I've wasted too much time already.
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) Go Cats Go! Now the question is what bowl game? Looks like the Music City for NW, as long as this PSU score holds up. That's assuming El Paso hasn't gotten tired of seeing the Gophers every year.
  16. Marlins close to dealing Beckett If they lose both becket and Burnett, you have to figure they're aqcuiring pitching elswhere.
  17. QUOTE(timotime @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) what did giles ever do for you? More than Timo
  18. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) Thats very interesting concerning Young. If thats the case, and I wouldn't be suprised if he has improved it that much. Then we truly do have a special player coming through our system. If he can improve his eye at the plate like he has his power and his arm the past 2 offseasons, then we have hit a goldmine. I noticed that too. I've only seen him throw twice, but I would say his arm is above average based on that, which was contrary to the scouting report I had seen which had his arm rated at 40 on the 20-80 scale. Maybe this is the first acknowledgement of his improvement. Of course it could just be BA blowing smoke again.
  19. I imagine he'll start at Charlotte and struggle.
  20. Wow. The four teams left in the "Gaurdians classic" are impressive. Texas - ranked 2nd and 3rd in the polls Kentucky - ranked 8th and 10th in the polls West Virginia - ranked 14th and 15th in the polls Iowa - ranked 20th in both polls All games to be played in Kansas City.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) Go Wildcats. LOL. They have almost no bearing on where the Hawks go. I suppose if they somehow were able to find a way to lose to Illinois, which is damn near impossible, they would set up a scenario where Iowa would go to the Music City bowl over NW should Iowa lose to Minn. But that's an incredibly unlikely scenario. Hadicapping Iowa's Bowl destination Alamo - 3/2 Music City - 25/1 Motor City - 5/2 Other - 5/1
  22. Did Fresno already get an offer from the Liberty? -- That's a longshot anyway. It would be making the best out of the worst. ISU vs. UCLA would be a winnable game, but I'll belive the Clones in the Holiday bowl when I see it.
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) I'm just going off of what the Cotton Bowl rep said about ISU on Cold Pizza. Texas = Rose If OU beats TTU, but then loses to OSU (both which aren't tooooo farfetched) ISU could slip in. Someone's gonna take a hit in the OU-TTU game, especially if one gets shellacked. #5 bowl is Houston, who has pretty much stated they'll take ISU if they slide that far. However, ISU is the second hottest team in the Big 12 (No one's passing Texas) and with another win that will be 5 in a row. I can see ISU landing anywhere between Cotton and Champs Sports, but Texas Tech's loss to OSU brought this into play. Where the heck does Iowa go with a loss? Sun? Music/Motor City? I didn't take into account schedule. One of OU/TT is going to lose. Still the Alamo would take one of those over ISU. With a loss, Iowa is likely headed to the Motor City. NW and Minn should both finish 2 games up on them in that scenario, and even though the Alamo and Sun would still want Iowa over those two clubs, it's against their agreement with the Big Ten. -- If MSU wins too, Iowa will be locked out of the Big 10 bowl picture. PSU will end up with a New years day game in FLA, OSU will get the lone Big 10 BCS bid, and everyone moves down a slot. MSU would probably stay close to home at he Music City over Iowa, who would no doubt get an independent bowl. Something like the Liberty Bowl.
