  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) Wilkerson imo should and will be a 25-30 homer guy, he strikes out a ton and ideally should not be at the top of the order. He does walk a lot and that's really the only reason that people think of him as a top of the order hitter, he's not the kind of guy the sox are thinking as of a two hitter, they want a speedy leadoff type who can bunt and move guys over when necessary. Just so you know... Wilkerson has gotten most of his ABs(about 1000 of them) the last two years, that's right, from the lead off spot.
  2. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) Probably not Marte straight up, but I doubt it would take Anderson. At least we wouldn't do it anyway. I would, but I'm not the Sox. Wilkerson > Anderson But Wilkerson/Pauly/Thome are all likely to be lower avg/high K/High OBP guys. I can't see us acquiring him because of his average.. Ozzie also wouldn't view him as a #2 hitter. I love his versatility though. He'd be a great pickup.
  3. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) how about wilkerson for marte?? add anderson to the deal and you might, might, be in the ballpark.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Well, PK's OBP last year = .375, although that was the best of his career. and I will admit that it's the one area of the game that Pauly is likely to improve on for the duration of his contract. strike zone judgement is the one area that older players seem to hold onto longer (often even improving later) than their other skills.
  5. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Thome is flyball hitter and therefore should bat behind Konerko thus reducing the DP opportunities. Kareer OBP Thome -- .408 Kong -- .349 I don't Kare where he hits it, Thome should always be in front of Konerko...
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 06:34 AM) Well last time we played Duke, this happened: Let's do it again! I took Indy +12 that game... I was pissed right after halftime. I was sure I had thrown away money.
  7. I love seeing the word victim being associated with Michael Irvin. Funniest thing I've read all day.
  8. I think I saw Mike Wilkinson's girlfriend playing the Wisconsin band.
  9. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) If you stand in line for more than a hour, you officially have no life. Well let's ad this mea culpa to the equation... Normally, Soxfest tickets don't sell out until right before the fest... This year they were gone before the Series was over. There could be a larger group of "no lifers" there this year. So be prepared.
  10. This is where Old Sox would step in and say something like "The Sox have 25 minor league propects? Yeah right!" -- I wonder if he ever got over his bitterness following the Jeremy Reed trade. Somehow I doubt it, and he's ready to start crying about losing Gio. Edit: was it OldSox? I'm starting to doubt my memory.
  11. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) Sonofa... so we couldn't swing a little extra to get Abreu instead of Thome? If this goes through, I'll be irate. If by "a little extra" you mean our starting C and a member of our starting 5, well then
  12. I bet he gets 2/$5M with a 3rd year option, small buyout
  13. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) Oh but I forgot, this is the formula the Sox used to win thn the World Series when the high SLG lineup of Mags, Thomas, Lee, Valentin etc. couldn't. Stats can show the run production and predict wins but the style we used last year always does better than the predictions. The Twins beat us when the run production predictions said we should have beat them and we beat EVERYBODY last year when the run production stats said we shouldn't have made the playoffs. Stats are fun for discussion but pitching and defense are the main components of winning. (sorry, end of rant) OK, Pierre doesn't pitch, and plays mediocre at best defense.
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Are you serious?!?!?!
  15. I don't think it effects the Konerko market directly. But it just further shows that the free agent market is well out of whack with what we expect.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Regardless of guilt or innocence at this point, it would be stupid for him to comment at all. That was the point of the question.. not whether it was legal or not for him to take the test. Spoken like a guilty party, or a lawyer. Either way, makes you [irvin] look bad.
  17. That just proves that Dre Bly and Jeff Garcia are better qualified to head teams than Matt Millen.
  18. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) Bake him some cookies. ^ Best suggestion
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) This thread is an attempted jinx, isn't it? You cannot jinx da bears, my friend. Super QB Kyle Orton does not believe in da jinxes or the fabled 300-yard passing game. Da Bears defense does not believe in da jinxes or allowing 100 yard rushers. Da Coach Lovie Smit does not believe in da jinxes or the curse of Don Majickowski. Pass me that plate of bratwurst.
  20. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Gosh, I'm still inclined to think Owens gets every chance in the world to "win" that CF position. Remember: what Ozzie wants, Ozzie gets. Not necessarily. Ozzie wanted Omar Vizquel last year, and he wanted him bad. He wanted a great defensive SS who could bat in the #2 hole. Ozzie may have gotten them both, but not by the means he wanted. Guillen may want Pierre, but he's more likely to settle for Owens sometime in June/July as a 4th outfielder (after the Human Borch finally has seen his last day in a White Sox uni) and he's grown tired of Tim0-5.
  21. I can't wait for Charlie Weis to call a play in honor of Irvin's dying drug habit.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I'm not totally sure how to read the numbers...but somehow I think you and I have to be looking at different numbers. In 2005, when I sort by "runs scored", McAfee is ranked 28th...and RFK is ranked 23rd. Coors field is naturally ranked first. By just that metric, the way I'm looking at the data...McAfee gave up fewer runs on average than RFK. I guess I have to be wrong somewher,e but I don't see where that comes out of the numbers I'm seeing at all. The data fields from ESPN got broken somewhere along the way....They were fine in '04, but got all fished up sometime in early '05. They haven't been right since. B-R lists the 2005 park factor (which unlike the ESPN stats isn't a straight %) for the coliseum as 103 and RFK at 93, with 100 being neutral.
