  1. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) that's very sad. I'm sorry guys. an interesting fact, however, is that this is not the first "porn" news article, but at least the 6th one : hmmm. The Sun-Times keeps their archives online for a month. 06 represents the date....
  2. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) Northern Iowa favored by one over Iowa. Anyone gonna take the Hawks? I'll bite.. Bodog's got 'em at +1.5. I'll take it.
  3. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) Is non-tendering Crede really a possibility? Unless his health is worse than we know, I would not like that move. Rosenthal's on crack. Seriously, the guy writes like 9 articles a day. He's got to be on something.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) There is at least some fairly good evidence that on average, ERA's of starting pitchers go up by almost a run per game going from the NL to the AL. Naturally there's variance from pitcher to pitcher, but I think the data in 2004 is fairly clear. Verducci gives nothing more than anecdotal evidence from one year. Oh yeah, it's clear. Oh wait, it's ONE YEAR! and only pitchers who changed leagues. Talk about a limitted set. What did guys whose last name starts with P bat in the first road game of a series in 2004, compared to their season average. would you draw conclusions from that? Give me some real data... All pitchers who changed leagues, corrected for park and year, since the advent of the DH. I'd wager that the difference is about .3 in ERA when swithing leagues, significantly lower than the .95 that Verducci cites.
  5. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) Just one year ago, Millwood signed a deal that guaranteed him $3 million. If the Mariners thought he was such a good bet to stay healthy, where were they then? Dec. 6 - 12:10 am et I said the same thing after the Loaiza signing. You look terribly foolish a year later offering a huge deal when you could have had the same pitcher the year before for next to nothing, comparably. -- I'd be interested to see what Rotoworld had to say RE: the Loaiza signing. I wonder if they were busy slobbing Billy's knob, for such an obviously foolish deal.
  6. OMG I read on ITI that the Cubs just signed Furcal to a $100M deal. 9 pages from this? I don't buy it.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) Too bad they'll be at the Outback Bowl. Might say something about Hawk fans, however. Man, you tear down one set of goalposts and try to remove them from an indoor stadium through a revolving door, and you're labeled as stoopid.
  8. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) You guys didn't miss much. The best part of the show was the monologue, where he did like 10 minutes of stand-up. Downhill from there. http://mp.danwho.net/index.php?id=snl_danecook_monologue
  9. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) My reason is that in the games I say from him this year, he didn't look that good and his swing was terrible. Plus everyone on this board feels Owens is higher on the depth charts then Anderson to begin with. I'd rather go with experience over a rookie, for this season. I beleive the consensus on the board is that Owens is a 4th outfielder whose cieling is Scott Podsednik. Anderson is never going to be a superstar, but he's a solid player, and can handle centerfield defensively.
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) Let them slobber all over these other teams, they were wrong before and chances are they will be wrong again. By the way as I mentioned to my underground friend this morning I don't think anything will happen with Bill Mueller until after the arbitration deadline becuase it would cost draft choices to sign him now ... he is a Group A. And what's the deadline to offer Arbitration? Dec 7th? or is it another month, like early January?
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) Thome vs Byrd should be a nice matchup in our favor. I am thinking the ball should land nicely on the concourse fixed.
  12. If it's such a crappy bowl Josh, why are you so upset?
  13. Oh and give the damn ball to Nathan Vasher on punt returns.
  14. Orton wasn't good at all today, but you guys are being way to hard on him. His job is as a caretaker of the offense, don't turn the ball over, and he did that oce again. The playcalling left a lot to be desired today. We didn't complete a third down through the air because we were running mostly shooptastic 5-yard routes on 3rd-and-7. Jones still isn't right. He's afraid to run between the tackles. He should be used more as a 3rd down back until he actually takes on a defender. I know somebody's going to say, "but he got 80 yards today".. I say great, 75 of them were to the outside. Which is all fine and dandy, but that's a finesse running attack; All-or-nothing. I'd rather stick with A-Pete getting most of the carries up the middle. Worst call of the game was 3rd-and-1 when A-Pete has driven you 50 yards all between the tackles, and they throw this misdirection pitch that puts him 1-on-1 on the outside. Run it down their throats. Sure you got stopped on 2nd-and-1, but you succeeded on the 8 previous plays before that.
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) f***. I'm pissed, even though 62.25 million is a lot per year. He was very good against us in the playoffs, so he might be worth it.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Link to it being offical? If it is true, the biggest question in my mind would be if Ozzie is managing the club or not. If Oz is the manager of Venezuela, I dont have a problem with it, because from what Ozzie had been quoted on, he seems concerned to have Garcia go, and if Ozzie had control of Garcia, im sure he would not let him get to many innings in, or get fatigued in the least. Luis Sojo is managing.
  17. I'm projecting a Minnesota vs. UCLA bloodletting in the Sun Bowl. UCLA can't stop the run. Minnesota is the #2 rush offense in the country. UCLA is the worst run stopping team in the country.
  18. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) I read in Trade Winds you didn't find this topic worthy of creating a thread. Admit it-- you believe a trade may go down, and changing McCarthy's number on the site is somehow an indication of this. Actually, I would have expected him to switch to the number he liked to wear in the minors... #35 Of course, he would never do that. I wouldn't be surprised to see that one retired this year.
  19. Billy Beane wants the $9M 2B who had a .309 OBP last year. He's just dying to replace the .316/.384/.477 with superior defense to Soriano that he got out of Mark Ellis. Some people are f***ing retarded.
  20. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) From the Indianapolis Star: Big ratings The IU-Duke game averaged a 2.5 rating, making it ESPN's highest-rated and most-viewed ACC/Big Ten Challenge telecast ever, the network said. In addition, it was ESPN's most-viewed men's college basketball telecast ever during November. You have to thank Minnesota for getting killed by Maryland, and Iowa 'n NCST putting on the ugliest excuse for a basketball game for a little help. -- The basketball opposite that game on ESPN2 was BRUTAL.
