Diaz's last two starts since being called up each went 6 innings, giving up no HR's. Grilli hasn't lasted 6 in any of his outings. I believe I just did. Forgive me for wanting to be cautious with our "ace". Given our past history this season, what makes you feel comfortable with the diagnosis you've been given as sanatized by this organization... Frank sat with a "hamstring" before his stress fracture was revealed and Maggs sat with "tenderness" following a collision before eventually requiring surgery, and a subsequent diagnosis of bone marrow adema. Do you actually think that Garcia's "tightness" is just tightness?

Johann Santana and Brad Radke have about 10 starts left... We will not be so lucky as to avoid them both in those 6 upcoming games... And each of those games is worth 2 against an ever shrinking magic/tragic number.

Why bother giving those extra innnigs to Grilli? If he ever contributes to the club it will be out of the pen. So why not move him there? It does make a difference. There's probably about 5 more starts left if Diaz was to stay in the rotation @ 6 IP/G = 30 innings. The most innings pitched in one month on the season by our other "long" relief guys out of the pen is about 15IP. That's 15 innings of valuable experience for Diaz, who if he is in the pen, will be buried. And would likely only get about 8-10 innings on the remainder of the season. Next year doesn't just depend on diaz throwing extra innings... What does "forearm tightness" mean, and why risk furter "tightness" by pitching rather meaningless games down the stretch with a $27 MIL investment. Don't let Garcia further his injury before he actually starts collecting on that new contract.

It may be a wash for this season, but it's not for next... Diaz is much more likely to contribute to this team next season... We should not concede next season, it's not the professional thing to do, and limiting Diaz's innings will come back to bite you next season even if he's not in the rotation. One of the starters will go on the DL at somepoint, and it would be nice if you had a guy with some experience filling in.

Yeah I don't like the Freddy move -- According to Ozzie Diaz is heading to the pen. I'd like him to get as many innings as possible in at the ML level before next season. I just don't see Grilli being in a position to help this team in any other fashion than out of the pen next season, but Diaz I see playing a much more integral role. -- Why not give the kid the opportunity to gain some much needed on the job experience? last 9IP 1ER.

Ok I thought abuot it for a second Rogers is an idiot.... MB was 2nd year arbitration eligible, and he got less than $4 Mil on the season. MB>>>>JG I understand that MB's contract increased each year, but that was in line with probable arbitration awards and FA looming on the horizon... If JG is going to get 4MIL at arbitration, trade him... And I'm a JG fan. That's just too much $ to be committing to someone who hasn't ever stepped it up; too much for a 5th starter.

I think phil rodgers was trying to boost his case by falsly inflating JG's salary #. There's no reason for JG to get a 66% raise...

The good news is our offense gets to face Chan Ho Park just to make it fair. Oh and we have a 3 game winning streak going, we haven't had one of those since the end of july.

I've had a feeling for awhile that he's gonna be in the rotation -- I just see him either winning a battle in camp against some veteran for the 5th spot; or we actually do get a top of the line guy, and spin Jon Garland into some other need, thus leaving the 5th spot open again. One thing is for sure. Diaz no longer belongs in AAA. He's pretty much proved all he has to down there in the bandbox at charlotte. This final month of the season is his time to learn what it takes at the big league level and spin that into a spot on the team next season in the bandbox in chicago.

makeno mistake about it Diaz was not "dicking around" -- Diaz has exceptional control, when he first was called up his problem was that he was throwing too many strikes and putting the ball over the fat part of the plate. Today Diaz was doing a great job working just off of the corners. He may have benefited from a wide plate in part thanx to the opposing pitcher, who gets a notoriously wide plate. But Felix never had a pitch end up in the middle of the plate today, and that's why he was successful. He's learning the difference between throwing strikes in the minors and painting the corners in thhe Majors. His last 9 innings have looked great. He looks to me like he's learned a lot so far. To whoever questioned his "stuff" -- does he not have better stuff than the twenty game winner he opposed? Does he not have better stuff than Mark Buehrle? It's about location, and knowing what to throw; where and when. The
