National Letter of Intent signing day
Today was the national letter-of-intent signing day for college football. How did your team do? Iowa did not have a good day today. They lost out on a bunch of higly ranked kids. All were down to Iowa and one other school. All seemingly picked the other school, (Michigan, Ohio St, Michigan St, USC, Notre Dame). Including losing out on a guy from Cedar Rapids Iowa who was a top 10 WR. Iowa was projected to have a top 15 recruiting class. They didn't even end up in the top 25 Here's the transcript from the Kirk Ferentz press conference today, He's trying to put a good spin on the situation, but it was a disappointing day in the IC.

I found this and thought it was interesting.... Fred Russel(Iowa Running Back) -- NFL Draft Diary #1 #2

Playmakers Cancelled.....
That sucks.... SoxnBears is right though... It's only because they don't want to stand up to the NFL ... It was getting more than twice the ratings than anything else in that slot.

My picks before the season were.. Louisville, Missouri, Arizona, & (kansas) -- Not sure about that last one. I still wouldn't be the least bit surprised if those were the teams there. My picks as of Today, Louisville, Duke, Stanford, (Some team from the Big 12)

Myth Busters
There was a marathon on New years Day... I must say i really dertracted from my Rose Bowl viewing... I don't know if I havea favorite, I just like seeing stuff get blown up. I think I can realated to the show. it's a couple of nerds, with a warped sense of humor, blowing stuff up. I don't know why I relate

Espn article
Frank hasn't hit since 2000 (batted .257 since)... He better get his average back to respectable numbers, otherwise the last few years will weigh heavily on the voters minds. If he doesn't get back to around three hundred his career number will really take a hit too. He's at .310 right now, not all that impressive for a guy who is pretty much career DH. HIs first 10 years, frank batted .320, since .257. A difference of more than sixty points. And almost 100 points lower than his best for a single year.

First of all --------- I'd say we do respond to your postings, much less than apu's actually. Apu has never started a thread that went on for 40 pages... at least not since I've been here... and I think you've had a couple over 20... And I've never met Apu. Now those are facts.- Fonts/code/list?
Type the text normally.... then highlight the desired text you wish to modify, use the drop menus to make your selection. It's that simple... it should put opening and closing tags around the desired text. Like this [*color=red]This text is red[*/color] Remove the * to make it work.- Interesting...
in rauch's defense click here- Make your official predictions
f*** you, Joe Boo!!!- If LA signs Maddux will Evans rekindle...
Me thinks Danny-boy hasn't learned not to deal with Boras. He's either being used so that Boras can get more out of the Cubs, or he's going to get fleeced and pay way too much for him. In the latter case, it's not likely that he could trade, Perez for Konerko, the addition of Madux and PK to the payroll would be even to much for the Dodgers, I think.- NCAA hoops thread
Damn that's three SOLID wins for FSU, I didn't think they were that good, Though I haven't seen 'em play. Props to the Noles.- Make your official predictions
He quietly had a really solid season last year. No one seemed to notice... And that was coming off of surgery... I know He's not a top of the rotation starter, but he was 3:1 KtoBB ratio, so he had some control, and if he's healthy, He makes the squad.- Make your official predictions
Rotation 21 Esteban Loaiza 56 Mark Buehrle 20 Jon Garland 60 Scott Schoeneweis John Rauch --- I think he makes the jump, fully recovered from the shoulder injury, and get 12 wins. Bullpen Billy Koch (closer) Damaso Marte (setup) Shingo Takatsu (setup #2) Cliff Politte (short/middle) Kelly Wunsch (short/middle) Dan Wright (long) Robert Person (mopup) Lineup 2B Harris LF Lee 1B Thomas RF Ordonez (remember Ozzie saying he wanted Maggs @ #3 just after the hiring) DH Konerko 3B Crede SS Valentin CF Rowand C Olivo Bench IF Juan Uribe 1B/dh Ross Gload C Sandy Alomar OF Marvin Benard Conclusion, boy do we miss Tony G. Who plays third when Crede needs a day off? Valentin? I guess that means he's hitting both righties and lefties. I was confident headed into ST until I had to make this. Opening Day starter = Loiza, Buerhle wants to pitch the home opener. players who spend time in a sox UNI before september call ups: Pacheco, Diaz, Stewart, Borchard, Reed, Grili(I'm not familliar with the rule V rules)- Will last years Cubs
I've gotta agree with tony too. Who really cares what the cubs did... Once again the sox season will be decided in the first few weeks. 2000 --> Sox not predidcted to win division, Fast start, winning gets contagious, Sweep Yanks and Tribe on road, not that great in the second half, Playoffs 2001 --> Sox picked first, Wells aquisition, Slow Start, Frank gets hurt, out of reace early, one of the best teams in the second half 2002 --> Sox picked first, Ritchie aquisition, Slow start, Ritchie gets hurt, out of race early, one of the best teams in second half 2003 --> Sox picked first, Koch aquisition, slow start, Paulie's terrible, Koch's terrible, Frank bat's .267, one of the best teams in the second half, 2004 --> Sox not predicted to win division, Fast start?, winning gets contagious?, Sweep Twinkies in the bubble?, playoffs?- What books are you reading?
Currently reading "You Shall Know Our Velocity" by Dave Eggers.- My own rankings of the 5 Chicago teams
I'll be using the same criteria as ESPN, I'll be waying heavier on the present situation, with the exception of Championships, past counts, as does perception of future. ESPN used this formula: Overall = (BNG x .158) + (FRL x .162) + (OWN x .155) + (AFF x .105) + (STD x .127) + (PLA x .130) + (CCH x .086) + (CHA x .077) Team.....BNG....FRL....OWN....AFF....STD....PLA....CCH....CHA....TOT Bears.....2......1......3......2......2......1......3......1......15 Cubs......3......2......1......3......1......2......1......3......16 Sox.......1......3......2......1......4......3......4......4......22 Bulls.....4......4......4......4......3......4......2......2......27 Hawks.....5......5......5......5......5......5......5......5......40 I hadn't planned on using the formula, because my figures are less than scientific, but I didn't think the bears would finish #1 in my poll. I figured the Cubs would still finish #1 but by a far smaller margin Than the ESPN poll with the formula it figures like this... Bears=1.872 Cubs=1.972 Sox=2.609 Bulls=3.547 Hawks=5 Give me your opinions, what would you have scored differently... I think a little of my own biases came into play here, I tried to evaluate the cubs as neutrally as possible, but i think The Bears, who I love even more than the sox, got some favorable rankings by me. - I made sigs for you guys...
