  1. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) I love that outside the lines has an afternoon show now. I am now fully aware of the cultural divide that faces Korean golfers in the LPGA.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) It's pretty disappointing that the transaction that led to the most conversation on this board today was Maddux for Izturis. Eventually the bloodletting will commence when people finally stop holding their breath waiting for a late announced move.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) Why not at least get a 4th OFer? Ozzie.
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) For real. Can't wait to hear Hawk tonight say how it would have been stupid to make any moves as this team will be unstoppable once they get it going. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) Yeah, once they hit that magical point in the schedule where everything starts to click. That should be any day now. Any day... ::tumbleweed:: What magical trade are you waiting for? It's not out there. There are no line changes for entire starting rotations. Our best chance isn't making some desperate move at the deadline. It's getting the starting 5 to pitch to their career norms, or rather their full potential.
  5. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) Does anyone know how hard/effective Hermy has been throwing down there? He could still help us up in Chicago. I think Art Kuysner is higher on the BP depth chart than Hermy
  6. Juan Uribe took the most walks of any Sox player in the '05 playoffs. /that'll win you some bar bets.
  7. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) I know Anderson is not the problem, but Uribe is WAY to inconsistent. I think LF is the biggest problem on the non-pitching side of the team right now. Obviously, starting pitching has been the biggest overall problem lately. Lately? The staff ERA is almost a full run worse than last year. Even though the offense has improved by a similar amount, the recent string of bad games should be illustration enough why run prevention, of which defense plays a large part, is more important than run production.
  8. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Yes, very much so. There is room for one bad player. Especially a rookie. Stats from Uribe like he is putting up are just completely unacceptable. If we had a decent, hell, even someone like .265/.340/.450 at short, we'd be a lot better. BA has also more than made up for his lack of offense to start the year on defense. Uribe's hit .316/.329/.624 the last 6 weeks as the Sox went in the crapper. Anderson's hit .284/.326/.432 over that span. Anderson and Uribe aren't the problem. It's completely naive to think that two of the best defenders at their respective positions should be replaced while they're hitting as they are. THEY'RE NOT THE PROBLEM! If anything, you should be calling for them to stop hitting. The Sox won more games that way.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) What about Zito? If he's available, he'd clearly be an upgrade over Garcia/Vazquez. That would certainly give us a better chance against some of these teams. Zito's not available for anything we're offering. And we need 4 more to improve the team as much as it will require to make the playoffs.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) We need a trade. Can't have our usual crappy 2nd half because we don't have a 15-game lead this year. Need a trade to bolster the team. No. We don't need any trades. No trade will make our starters magically start pitching better. And that's what we need. 5 starting pitchers who pitch better than the group we've sent out there this year. Shockingly, there's no such market with 5 better pitchers than the defending World Series champs rotation are available.
  11. well that makes the site it's trying to emulate look reputable.
  12. Gload has more range than Kong at 1B, but Kong is much softer hands than Gload.
  13. The good news is it leaves Philly without a 3B. So right now, SD and PHI both need 3B for the future. Philly doesn't need one right this minute, but the prospect of SD sniffing around Fields could help drive up his price.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) I fear in the next few days I'll come on this site, and see "The Score reports the White Sox have traded Josh Fields for Scott Linebrink". That would make the Sox pen 7 deep, and I think would be the precursor to another move.
  15. Iguchi fired Moss, and I suspect he has a clause in his contract like Contreras had that make him exempt from the reserve/arbitration process, essentially becoming a FA if he isn't resigned quickly following next season.
  16. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) wasn't it also in Baltimore last year when Crede made his "request"? PLAY SOME FISHIN JOURNEY!
  17. Love you, love the show Long time listener, first-time caller. ....
  18. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) Yulieski Gurriel is very very good. I like this kid alot. For some reason I bet the Red Sox and Mets (who both need a 2B) will be battling big time with the Yanks to get this kid His natural position is 3B. he conceded that spot to the elder statesman Enriquez, who was 25, in the WBC. From what I saw, he was very raw at 2B in the WBC, but never saw him at 3B. I don't know exactly how he projects in the field. I would figure that he needs about a year at AAA to get adjusted. He shouldn't be counted on by anyone, especially a contending team, to contribute right away. I believe he was just 21 during the WBC.

  20. OK this is bizarre... I tried to go to Padora.com today and stream myself some background music, but it wouldn't play for any more than 30 seconds at a time. I just figured that there was something wrong with the site, or possibly on my end, but wrote it off. So just now I tried to play an embedded video file at CBS2news, and I only got through the first 30 seconds before the sound cut out, with the video stopping seconds later. So I was curious as to what the problem was and went to Youtube.com. Sure enough, I can only watch the first 30 seconds of video at YouTube. Firefox updated itself yesterday, or the day before here, but I've been able to view flash files since then. Something is amiss today. Something is different I guess, but I have no clue what it is.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) He gives us a lot of leverage in the Crede negotiations, and he'll also give us a great trade chip in the offseason. I don't think he's our long-term answer in LF. Assuming he continues his trend towards his true talent level, I don't know how much leverage an .800 OPS 3B whose glove can't hold a candle to crede's is going to help negotiations. If anything, if the Sox say, 'well we've got this kid,' Crede and Boras will laugh them right out of the room. Unless his performance picks back up to the 1.000 OPS Fields, he won't have much, if any, value. You can live with a slugger who strikes out in 30% of his ABs when he has an OPS over 1.000 and is walking 2 out of every 10 ABs, but .800 OPSers with a similar K-rate who walk 1 out of every 12 ABs won't have anyone beating a path to your door. So I guess the decision to unload him now or wait until this off-season after the Crede situation straightens itself out depends on how you think Fields will perform the rest of the season. I'd put a large amount of money on Crede's major league numbers for the rest of the season being better than Josh's in AAA over the same span.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Well what exactly do you want from Jerry Owens? He really has no spot on the team at the moment and I don't understand how he'd spark the Sox at all.
