  1. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) He only gave up two earned runs. Bulls***. You don't get to cite earned runs when balls fly over the fence. You wanna cite unearned runs, then do something about it, strike guys out. Don't let them hit HRs. Defense was terrible. Pitching was predictably worse. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) Putting BMac in the lineup as a starter, would be the most unfair thing we could do right now. He isn't "stretched out" for the extended innnings Yeah that 5.1 innings pitched on 68 pitches 6 days ago is really holding him back. If only he had gone 9 with 125, then he would be ready.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 02:24 AM) The last time someone made this exact promise I was left very disappointed. I worded it very carefully.
  3. Heath Phillips got his second victory in Olympic Qualifying tonight with 7 innings of 1-run ball against the Dominican Republic. He may get the call to pitch in the final game of qualifying against Cuba on just three days rest. He's pitched 13 innings, allowing 8 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. Plus 5 innings of shutout ball in a "friendly" with Puerto Rico. I suppose he is eligible to go back to Charlotte and pitch, maybe he'd be rested enough to start game 4 or 5 of the Knights playoff series. He just keeps winning everywhere he pitches this season. With the 2 wins in Cuba, 1 in the AAA All-Star game, and 1 in the Florida friendlies to add to his 14 with the Knights, he might lead all of baseball in victories.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) Cheat look what the rumor in the paper is today. The latest is we will replace our weak hitting hitting LF with an older version of him in Dave Roberts in the offseason. Just start Sweeney next year, or Mack or a Mack/Ozuna platoon. Ozzie has a facination with the Marlin Juan Pierre type. I am surprised that he doesnt attempt to get KW to pick up that pile of dung in the offseason. Garbage. Anyone but Pods should be starting. Pods would be on the Royals bench right now. I saw it. It's on my site, though I didn't post it thinking that if I ignore it, it will go away. Pods is going to go one of two ways. He's either going to be out of baseball within 2 years, maybe sooner, or he's going to perform another amazing transformation once he leaves the Sox this season. He seems to most motivated immediately after a club gives up on him.
  5. I'll eat my hat if Sweeney starts in LF before the Twins clinch the Wild Card. Mackowiak has been the obvious choice for LF for months now, yet he has, what, zero(?) starts in LF. Unless you're a pop-gun-hitting speedster, or Timo Perez, who lead off 10 times last season, Ozzie's not leading you off. It's probably Ozzie's biggest flaw as a manager.
  6. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) It seems odd to ask why that looks good, while comparing it to our current rotation, which has looked anything but good. I would say that those 3 vets are at least the most obvious keepers. Personally, I wouldn't put Haeger in the rotation just yet, but I'd try McCarthy there, with Haeger and Broadway in the wings (close in the wings). For someone who thinks that way, switching Vazquez (a guy I still believe in, for some reason) for Haeger doesn't seem like it's that awful, even if it's not my first choice. So I'm wondering -- would you keep this rotation intact? Or if you'd swap Brandon in for someone, is the only thing you're objecting to the extra Haeger-for-x switch? Haeger had an ERA over 5 since the first of July in AAA. He'd fit right in our rotation.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) The PFB is about to come on with the Sox pregame show in just a minute so we should have the lineups shortly. It's Mack and Cintron, trust me.
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) It's been 9 days since he pitched. But like you said that damn hurricane thing messed up the rotation. Actually, he did pitch yesterday. The stats won't count, but he appears to have pitched 3.2 innings yesterday before the game was called. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...tolaaa_chraaa_1 3.2 IP 3H 2R 2ER 1HR 2BB 7K
  9. Also, Anderson is 3-7 with a 2B and a HR against Hernandez.
  10. AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Pods-Mack-Dye in the OF. Ozzie is a farking idiot
  11. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Redding pitched in relief a few days ago, but the rainouts probably allowed Shines to shuffle the rotation for the playoffs. Haven't seen Broadway start in a while... It's been 9 days since he pitched. But like you said that damn hurricane thing messed up the rotation.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) That if we want to call him up, we have to put him into one of those open spots we have on our 40 man roster. At which point, we can't take him off unless someone thinks he could clear waivers. There's really no reason not to put him on the 40-man. He has to be protected from the Rule-5 this off-season, so doing it now, with the open spots we have, is just moving a couple of months early.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) He's not on the 40 man, and he's likely not going to come up, if he does, until the AAA playoffs are over. It'd be neat to see waht he can do, but he's roadblocked by Boone. Phillips is in Cuba right now, and I don't think he'll be back in time for the IL playoffs.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) It's the end of August.....and we're 1/2 game up in the Wild Card. If I were to take a step back, I would realize how fortunate we are to be in this position. This has been a very frustrating season so far....but we're still in a much better position than we've been in any of the last five years besides for 2005. We control our own destiny, and that's a lot better than having to hope that teams can beat the Twins like we've had to hope for in previous seasons. By no means is this team clicking on all cylinders right now, but they still find ways to win games. Just as last year where a 2 run lead in the 3rd inning seemed like a guaranteed victory, the games this leads this year don't feel safe even after Jenks retires the 26th out of the game. It's time for some solid September play...and it would be nice to see us get off to a good start by not making Runelvys Hernandez look like Cy Young/McCarthy. August 31, 2003 we had a 1.5 game lead on the Central, and had the 3rd ranked pitching staff in the AL.
  15. not quite what you're looking for but this is highlights from the ring ceremony mms://a1503.v108692.c10869.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1503/10869/v0001/mlb.download.akamai.com/10869/2006/open/teams06/cha/video/040406_cha_rings_music_350.wmv?media_type=wms&av_type=video&event_pk=undefined&product=mlb_tp
  16. Ozzies just got to switch the signs. Wave = stop Stop = go back to second
  17. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) The main problem I have with the list is how Owens is only 14th. He had a subpar first two months, he should be in the top seven. Why? He'll never be a starter at the major league level.
  18. So I just read that Jessica Simpson has laryngitis, and can't talk or sing to help promote her new album. I can't help but think the ailment is actually a ruse, a directive from her handlers who know that there has never been anything remotely intelligent pass that girls lips, and that her silence only enhances the masturbatory fantasies of the men who TIVOed her appearance on TRL.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Is that OPS number wrong? I know that's what MiLB.com says, but how is that possible, considering Sweeney hasn't had an OPS over .900 in one single month? Or am I making some really dumb math mistake? QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) You are correct, that OPS can't be right. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) MILB's splits are awful. Here are Sweeney's July/August splits for BA/OBP/SLG/OPS J: 0.299 0.373 0.485 0.857 A: 0.267 0.323 0.512 0.834 MiLB's split's are entirely accurate. The AAA ASG was July 12th. Sweeney had a poor first 10 days of July (1 extra-base hit), but smoked the ball the rest of the month (10 extra-base hits), resulting in an .850 OPS. But if you divide that before and after the ASB, he was something like .550 OPS in the first 10 days of July and over 1.000 in the last 15. Add the 15 days of over 1.000 OPS to the month of (now) .876 OPS in August, and you've got an OPS of .967 since the break. You can make a lot of players look better than they truly are by sliding the endpoints of your sample. The best thing we can say about Sweeney though is the thing that I loved about Chris Young last year... You can see him learning from month-to-month in his stats. His monthly OPS totals now currently read. April -- .731 May -- .773 June --. 774 July -- .857 August -- .876 Last season was the first that I ever saw monthly splits on minor league guys, but I think that, when taken in context, they can be one of the most valuable ways to judge a players progress for those of us who don't get to see them play on a daily basis. I think a prospect that you can see tangibly improving, either in OPS or K/BB ratio, from month to month is demonstrating learning as a skill. And I believe players that demonstrate this skill have a greater shot at success at the major league level because they should be able to continue that learning once they reach the show. I suspect the Sox brass also feels this way, drafting pitchers in each of the last two first rounds who, even without the dynamite stuff of some of the others drafted around them, have learned to be successful at a high level.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) IIRC, the game was available on MLB.tv last year. It was, but it was an odd package... As I recall, I don't think if was the Circle Jerk in the booth and it had a cable access feel to it. There were almost no graphics, no commercials -- or no commercial breaks, at least -- and the camera work left something to be desired.
  21. Charlotte lost 8-4 -- Sweeney 2-4 w/ another 2B, Stewart 2-3 w/ a HR. Birmingham lost 8-0 -- Malone got rocked. No offense. WS lost 8-2 -- There's nobody even worth commenting about who played. Kanny lost both ends of a DH, 10-5 and 7-4 -- Brooks gets smoked. Woodson gets a taste of full season ball and it doesn't agree with him. I can hear those trade offers rolling in right now. -- Cunningham is still good though, 2-6 with a 2B and 2BB. Hernandez only played one game but was great, 2-2 with a 2B, HR, and a BB. Brandon Allen was 2-3 with a HR and a 2B, but I think most of us have written him off by now.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 08:49 AM) The game will probably be on Fox, especially since it appears it will be a huge game. What makes you think it won't be? It starts an hour and 10 minutes before the FOX game of the week time slot, but because of FOX's exclusive on the time slot 12-6, no other networks are allowed to broadcast games during that time.
