QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 04:17 AM) Is anyone willing to bet even $100 that Dunn hits 35 homers with 100 RBI's next year? Great great question. That's throwing 100 bucks down the toilet.

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 04:07 AM) Hey, De Aza might be good. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 04:12 AM) Dunn has been a one-trick pony who has played on crappy, losing teams for a long, long time. they couldn't wait to get him out of Cincinnati because he doesn't have enough pride in his craft to get in shape. You can believe in the fairy tale that he'll bounce back next season. But he's putting up the worst season in 100 years because he's lost it. As bad as he was in the first half of the season, he's been WORSE the second half. he's done. Finished. An embarrassment. Props to Konerko.Sox would be lost without him. 1.) DeAza can run. He hits the ball very hard. He seems to belong. How old is he? I like him? There is absolutely no reason to play Rios over him next year. None. It will be criminal if Rios plays ahead of this guy. 2.) Exactly. It is a fairy tale that he will bounce back again, but the Dunn lovers will always have the upper hand on us. They'll say, 'You wait. He will break out of this and when he does...' It's not going to happen. He is horrific and I just wish Sox would let him earn his money as a pinch hitter in blowouts.

DeAza looks like he's for real. He passes the eye test. He hits the ball f***ing hard.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:59 AM) I'm not ready to say we can't contend next year just cause Rios and Dunn are on the roster. The biggest concern though is the gigantic public relations issue the Sox easily might face this offseason if Buehrle leaves and fan favorites like Quentin/Danks are traded just to ease payroll concerns while fan "non-favorites" like Dunn and Rios stay on the team. But having automatic outs in Rios in center and Dunn at DH are automatic outs at terribly important spots in the order. These guys will open April batting in the middle of the order. You have to figure third base and catcher won't light the world on fire hitting wise either, so that's four slots of bad hitting and automatically we cannot win the division. Hopefully Beckham will get it together and that won't be five sub par slots of hitters.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:25 AM) As awful as this season has been, it's completely depressing to think the Sox are stuck with Rios and Dunn for three more seasons. Dunn is finished. He's inept. There isn't one thing he does at the major league level -- hit for average (no), hit for power (no), run (no), field (no) and catch (no). The Chairman needs to make somebody answer for wasting $56 million. It's ridiculous. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:29 AM) You are confusing "having a bad season" with "has no skills". Dunn has more power than almost anyone in this league, and to think otherwise is ridiculous, really. 1.) We can't contend with Dunn and Rios. So we are in for a long season again next year. 2.) People that think Dunn can rebound ... well we have no argument against you cause he can suck and suck and you can always say, "He'll turn it around." It's like people who this year said "it's early" all year long. Hell a lot of people think we're still in the race cause "there's time." It'll finally run out and then the word will be wait til next year when Dunn and Rios return to form. At some point you have to accept facts: Dunn and Rios are done.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:15 AM) Crappy play by rios...... What's new? I'd like to blame him, but that would have had to be a great catch to stop that triple from occurring.
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:12 AM) Just thinkin' the same thing. That inning was a microcosm of what 2011 has been all about. Thing is that microcosm occurs every night. Triple for Angels. We getting waxed tonight.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:09 AM) Dunn still has power, he's just in-between on everything. Can't catch up to high heat, can't hit low breaking balls, obviously can't hit a change. About the only thing he can hit right now is a knee high fastball. Maybe he should look into using a shorter bat, because his bat speed could be better too. You really think he still has power?

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 03:00 AM) I have no problem losing these games with guys like Beckham, Flowers, Morel, De Aza and Rios playing well I'd agree with the first four guys. I don't think Rios finishing strong will mean anything entering next year. Rios is who he is.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:51 AM) I have to admit, I'm glad the Tigers are winning. Two reasons--I'm tired of the White Sox teases, and I'd rather see a team from the Central win 90 games than go in with 84-86. Yeah, after refusing to bring up Dayan, and refusal for so long to move Dunn down in the order, it made me mentally say, 'screw it I don't even want us to storm past .500.' 3-2 Angels. Mark getting rocked pretty good tonight after defense set the tone in the first.

We get to watch Beckham this inning. After a day off will he smash a hit?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:34 AM) I think Cleveland got a ton of breaks with a lot of come from behind victories this year and are still at the Sox level with the Sox playing most of the year with basically a guy hitting like a pitcher in the clean up spot. KC has some heralded players, but they have to do it at the major league level before I believe. Detroit could be a problem because the get Maggs off the books, will probably have some playoff cash this year and Illich will probably spend on pitching. Minnesota has huge question marks. Thing is we're saddled with Dunn and Rios and with them doing this again, we're .500ish at best again. That's two serious holes at positions that can't afford to be holes.
-
At least we should all have low expectations starting next year after not contending for more than a week and a half this season. We'll be conditioned to this sub .500 brand of baseball.
-
I can't believe Dunn hit the ball off Santana. Crazy.
-
Over under on how many pitches it takes to whiff Dunn. 4.
-
Lexi gonna try to tie it up here to make up for the E.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:26 AM) As long Pierre is gone, yeah maybe. Actually the way the Sox have treated the fans this year, that would be par for the course in coming days. Announce that Sox have extended Juan for two years at the same deal as his last contract. Yuk. It's gotta be Dayan/DeAza/Cuddyer next year with Rios our No. 4 outfielder. Make it so.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:24 AM) Buerhle has had troubles pitching around errors for years. Yeah but this doesn't classify cause he only gave up one run and two errors accounted for the run.
-
Do you guys think we'll be any better next year? Or will it be a continuation of this crap?
-
Poor Mark getting hosed by the defense.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:17 AM) Alexei's defense has been so overrated this year. I was moderately critical of Lexi recently and got fried on here. I wasn't impressed with his hitting and the sabes guys went nuts on me.
-
Lexi fails there.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:00 AM) I'm watchin the Rays and Tigers. I'm startin to think Detroit may run away with this division. I thought the Rays would take 2/3. They will run away with it. That's pretty apparent. Sox meanwhile will finish .480. Over under on hits tonight? Four

LOL at Rios batting fourth. Looking forward to him playing every day again next year. Yuk.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) This is why you are greg775, Faceless Internet Poster instead of greg775, GM of the White Sox. I know I have no power, but I just like discussion of minor signings/moves we could make to maybe help our punchless offense.
