Predict now; What Happens on Sunday w/Twins, Tigers?
greg775 replied to greg775's topic in The Diamond Club
True, Jordan4Life, but as a Sox fan, I'd be pissed if we didn't get a run in on a play in which our batter was hit by a pitch. That really cost them the game. Weren't the bases loaded? Man, a crucial call. -

I could never root for the Yankees. Too much money floating around. Steinbrenners. Greed. f*** the Yankees. -
I voted for our 1-0 victory for sentimental reasons. Both were amazing games. A sports writer could write a book on just this one game today. So many baseball situations to discuss. I'll just bring up one (altough how could Grandy get picked off first on a liner right at the shortstop? Yikes). I figured advantage Jim Leyland and advantage Detroit big-time when Nathan was out of the game and Rodney was in. I figured Detroit would score off no name Minny relievers. To those relievers' credit, they did the job in the TwinkDome. I was very surprised it turned out the way it did with Rodney in the game and Nathan gone. Detroit faces the big-time chokers tag after this one, leading by 3 games with four games left in the season. But what the heck. The Twinks deserve to march on. They could have folded twice late in the game after falling behind a run both times. Amazing. No way Minny should be forced to play New York tomorrow. It's baseball's fault the season lasts so long. Minny should have a day to fly there. A 5 p.m. game? My god. If Minny wins it would be a minor miracle.

He definitely was part of the problem of what was a horrible bullpen the second half.
-
Uh, because I give my opinion on players on a case by case basis. Do you?
-
Dotel was not fine. Dotel is way overpaid. Some nights he had it, many he didn't and completely sucked. He's not reliable and I hope he is shipped out. The Royals actually should sign Dye and Thome both. But they are too cheap.
-
I didn't mean to say that is what you inferred. I'm saying Carrasco was great in his role and a valuable member of the team. I admitted I was wrong on Carrasco but not wrong on any other of the former KC relievers who sucked with the Sox.

White Sox Pick up Garcia's and Thornton's Option

What is your problem, Sonix? I said good. I am in favor of Freddy. I'm just pointing out we need to get the Freddy of this year not a fat Freddy. Maybe he has the type of body where he could shed fat in spring training if he gets big this winter. I thought he pitched well and want him back. -
Faust was great in Comiskey Park. When she started the bars to "na na na na" the place was electrified.
-
I have lightened up on Rios and I hate former Royals pitchers. I've admitted I was wrong on Carrasco and that he is outstanding in the role he has. Certainly you do not want him in an expanded role to where he takes over Thornton's role when Thornton becomes the closer?
-
I agree. And we move on w/out Dye. Should be interesting to see who KW adds for a big stick or two with the budget constraints. Maybe we are gonna try to win with pitching and 2-3 runs a game. That can be a recipe for disaster because of bullpen implosions.

I think if he's the weight he was this year, he's a candidate to have a good year. Being fat is not a key to success. -
Great Ozzie Interview on off-season Day I

Good. I'm glad Oz considers him a plus off the bench. I like having him around, but he's definitely not anybody that can lead us to greatness if he plays every day. -
That's getting closer to a sentence I can agree with regarding the Jermaine of the past few years before the second half of this year. That sentence does not insult Dye. I respect your stats listed. I'm just saying he was not a disaster in rf prior to this year. The country knows it; you know it. He was OK out there. He wasn't a "problem" out there. He just wasn't. And I want to hear your guys' opinion of who will replace his production. Who are we gonna acquire to replace Dye? Remember Thome is gone as well. We need to score some runs and losing Thome and Dye doesn't actually help in that regard (assuming Dye returns to productivity).
-
Nope. I hate Lilly. Acquire a veteran shortstop. Kind of like the one year OC thing, except a guy who isn't a prick.

He may be good. He should not be a starter. Not saying you think he is a starter, but I'm worried Oz thinks he's Dye's replacement. -
Rude, then you tell me why it is wise to pile on a guy who you know is gone? Everybody talks about track records. His was one of excellence. I've tried to stop bashing my least favorite Sox player who sucked all second half. We all know Dye sucked the second half and is off to another team. You tell me what good it is to bash him? As far as WS titles, if we do win a second anytime soon, the Sox should become the greatest story in the history of Chicago sports. You know how difficult it will be to win a second WS in your lifetime? Dye was so instrumental in that first one. He deserves respect as he heads out the door. Nothing but respect as he is GAWN.

Cmon Kenny. If he's a big fat slob he won't be effective. He looked good this year. He was not Fat Freddy. If he gets fat he will have a s***ty April and May. He needs to be in decent shape. Guys can pig out in the offseason. You are not at all concerned of him becoming Fat Freddy? -
I was all for playing Beckham at second at one time. No more. He's developed a very good glove at third. I'd keep him there. I'd prefer moving Lexi to second and getting a more conventional solid defensive type guy at short. I'm not one of those sold on Getz/Nix, though I am trusting those who praise Getz as a grinder. Nix is a utility man forever.

Southside no disrespect but did you read my post?? I'm standing up for Dye the outfielder prior to the second half of this season. He has not been a butcher out there in the past; he's been quite serviceable. I've admitted he looks like a DH now. People have been burying Jermaine saying he's always been a bum in right field and that is not the case. I'm not going to bury Jermaine just because he's the flavor of the second half to bury.

Good. Now can Freddy have a productive offseason or will he get fat? That is the question. -

Great article. But who replaces JD in the order? Kotsay? Give me a break. KW is gonna have to find a big bat. -
Yes and I'm shocked that last year it was Paulie who got the rude treatment and of late it's been Jermaine. I don't get it. The guy is gone; we all know it. No need to pile on a guy who was very very instrumental in the Sox winning perhaps the only WS of your lifetime. Ask my great grandfather who never had a WS title as he died a few years before the title year and had to live through the Black Sox bulls***.

Guys, my argument is not that Dye is below average defensively NOW. I take exception to the fact he's been horses*** defensively the three years prior to that. It's simply not true. Blast him all you want for this year out there when he got a lot of bad reads and starts after balls and pretty much was below average out there. He's always had a good to very good arm and he's gotten the job done out there. My argument here is not about his D now. I agreed that I feel also he should start being switched to DH. He has not sucked out there defensively the two to three years prior to this year. I'd be dumb to not admit he was bad in right this year and rightly so probably should be switched to DH. I'm surprised you guys are burying him as a bad defensive player prior to this season. You act like he hasn't been able to ever read fly balls in the past and has been a total buffoon out there. CAN I REPEAT?: Yes I agree it's time for him to DH now. And he's going to be a good DH for somebody next year, not the Sox. Good luck to KW replacing his production and Jimmy Thome's. Oz is in love with Kotsay. Kotsay is not gonna produce playoff caliber team numbers.
-
Quite a few. Why do you guys call him a butcher in right field for "several years now." Nationally Dye does NOT have this tag. I'm not talking about the second half of this season when he was bad out there. I'm talking about his other seasons with the Sox. He was serviceable out there. I honestly don't get where you are coming from with this s*** about how he has been AWFUL in right for several years. Take a deep breath and realize the country does not share this opinion of Dye with you. I'm not talking about this year's second half. Some of you act like Dye is a stiff; he was a f***ing stud with our team.
