  1. Seriously, isn't Wrigley pretty much a dump?
  2. Frank is one of those rare guys I can't see playing in any other uniform. It happens, though. Seeing him in a Twins' uniform, however, really is Halloween like you said. That would be horrible to see.
  3. Do you guys want Paul Byrd via free agency and Graff? p.s. hey fathom haven't seen you since we wrapped it up. Ain't it sweet to be a Sox fan these days? Awesome.
  4. They want to dump his salary, Rotoworld is reporting of a Abreu for Wells swap, but they know it wont happen. This is what kills me about baseball. Teams pay the big bucks, then EVERY offseason you hear this same line. "Team wants to dump so and so's salary." Uh, owners, you shouldn't have paid these mega salaries to begin with. My god.
  5. I love Thome but how in the world could anybody trade much for him after last season? He's as big a risk as Big Hurt right now. Thome was having a horrific year before he got hurt, ending his abysmal season. Thome is one of those guys that might be done.
  6. Great column. That guy is oh, only 100 times better than Mariotti. Excellent column. He wrote: The guess here is that Konerko wants to stay in Chicago, where he made a name for himself, and the guess here is that he would accept less money to stay if his agent and the players' union don't get in the way. --Amen. I agree with Morrissey's comment, four year contract for 52 is what Paulie should get. I hope we offer it; i hope he takes it. f*** the Red Sox. Like he wrote, Paulie cannot carry that team and it is a recipe for disaster. But if he leaves, like Morrissey wrote, good for him.
  7. if we lose Paulie, we need the offense that Anderson can bring. We do? Anderson is unproven. Rowand is a world series centerfielder.
  8. I used to love Thome but I think he's done. Keep Rowand.
  9. Funny thing, but the home field advantage didn't come into play. If fact, it prevented the Sox from winning the Series at home. Good point, but I was thinking that getting off to that 2-0 start was huge. If it starts in NL park and we go 0-2 or 1-1 it might be a different series. I love the fact we completed the deal when Minnie made the playoffs all those years out of our division and never won a series. We had one of the best teams in modern history as it turned out, which is amazing to say after all that choke talk in September. What a special season. p.s. got my 2 white sox world series shirts in mail today and am waiting on that hat sold on mlb.com. GO SOX
  10. does anyone else feel that 4/52 is shockingly (almost insultingly) low in terms of years/total money It's a great offer. i have a gut feeling the sox won't go over four years and they probably shouldn't.
  11. Great responses. I'll now answer my own question. I don't think I'll be as pissed when we lose. I don't see how I can be. My whole life it's been wait til next year and so many next years, the team was out of the race by July and it was wait til next year again. This team scared the hell out of me as Cleveland crept up on it and thrilled the heck out of me in winning all but one postseason game. Finally winning it all ... I can't imagine wanting the next one as much. I agree I don't want the Sox to be a one-year wonder and maybe when next year gets rolling I'll care just as much, but I just don't see it. That said ... Thank you white sox for not only getting into the Series, but winning it. Just ask the Braves and Cardinals how hard it is to complete the deal. And thank you AL all stars for winning the All Star game and giving us home field advantage! That was sweet.
  12. I grew to love watching Paulie play a decent first base. I hope Dye isn't shifted there. BTW, did Joe B. go 3-for-3 this season? I thought at one point he was a perfect 3-for-3. Is that the way he ended up? After winning the World Series, I kind of trust Kenny to do whatever he sees fit with our team, but it would be nice to keep Konerko and add Frank at DH.
  13. Q-After wanting the Sox to win for so long and to have them come through and make this the best winter ever ... somebody asked me if I'd be as much a fanatic next season and seasons to come. I ask you the same question. Will you "want it as much" next year? Will you sweat out every game as you probably did this year? Be mad at baserunning blunders when we lose or if Garland walks 7 in 3 innings? Or if Marte walks two guys and we lose the opener, 7-6? Will you be AS passionate as before now that we've won the crown is all I'm asking?
  14. f anyone gave us a World Series, it was Kenny Williams. He was the one with the foresight to put together the collection of different players that made us what we were. He will decide what pieces we need in '06 to defend our title, whether that includes Konerko or not. I agree, except I guarantee you he would "include Konerko" if he was given the money. If Reinsdorf doesn't give him a similar offer as the Angels after Paulie giving him that ball ... he is truly an ingrate. I'm just saying the one poster wanted to dump Paulie and give Giles only two mill less. That is stupid. Pay the extra couple million, espeicaly when Forbes just said our franchise was worth some astronomical figure. It's all monopoly money.
  15. My ideal off-season would be to wave goodbye to Konerko since he will cost 2 much money. Says who? It ain't our money. It's the owners. Why would it be ideal to wave goodbye to a hero and pay Giles of all people 10 mill a year? Screw Giles; he did not give us a World Series. Give Paul 14 million; it's just monopoly money anyway after what that magazine said the franchise is worth. GO SOX! KEEP PAULIE, KEEP FRANK
  16. your assignment is to go talk to the teacher, explain your passion and get back to us if your grade got improved. thanx.
  17. Like you all said, it appears he's gone. We ain't gonna give him more than four years.
  18. Marte - Same role as this year. He has good stuff. El Duque - He gawn. Frank - Sox DH. Willie Harris - Same role as this year. LOL Manny - Cubs will sign him.
  19. Go meet with your teacher and explain your love of the team and I bet you'll get a B.
  20. People should balk at any back surgery. I know a guy who had a simple back procedure they hit the spinal cord and now he has to limp and use a cane. He was paralyzed 6 months. Has wife and two babies. Backs are sensitive.
  21. I wouldn't mind Graffy over Blum but obviously Blum would be welcome back after blasting that home run in the Series. Also how about Paul Byrd as a middle reliever or spot starter? Seriously wouldn't graffy be great or would he jinx us?
  22. Thanks to the guy for exposing mariotti for what a simplistic columnist he is. You have to have SOME perspective. To change your mind as many times as he did this past offseason and season is utterly insane. I think the guy should be fired to tell you the truth. I mean how can a lead columnist change his mind so many times? It shows he has no true judgment, no true expertise. He's just trying to inflame when things are going bad; and praise when he has to. He is writing like we indeed all have 6th grade education which supposedly is the average reader's education. WE SEE THROUGH YOU JAY. Give me a more boring columnist (yes the guy can write) with some true perspective folks, like the guy at the Southtown and the Trib. They are not as good a writers as Jay but I trust them a lot more. That blog item was priceless.
  23. If the Royals were smart they'd acquire Carl.
  24. I never wanted to trade Joe, but I will admit to these mistakes --Thought Kenny was a buffoon early in his tenure. Sorry for doubting this genius. --Hated Blum and thought he was worthless. Big home run, sir, I'll never rip you again just for that. --Never a big Everett guy. Great season, Carl. --Hated Viz. Pitched well in postseason. --Not a big Bobby believer, wanted hermy. We coudn't a done it without you, Bobby. GO SOX!
  25. Maybe he's one of the rare guys who decides to make a decision based on happiness and comfort level more than ONLY money. If he does this, he might be the first to actually become a free agent and stay. He'll be a legend in chitown forever if he stays unless he suddenly becomes a .190 hitter or something wacky like that. s***, just his last name says chicago even though he didn't grow up here. Konerko and Ditka!
