  1. Sheets stuff is undeniably better than Garlands I think the stuff Garland had last season is undeniably better than Sheets' and almost every other pitcher in the A.L. The guy dominated last season. And he's still young. We robbed him from the Cubs and now we're not going to pay him and keep him a Cub embarrassment and Sox start for years to come. That sucks.
  2. Why not Irish? He has had some amazing games to go with some totally horsecrap outings. What makes him different from a Viz? We had Viz all last year. Fogg arguably is better.
  3. - Garland's agent (Craig Landis) has told the White Sox there will be no negotiations on a new contract. Doesn't matter if the White Sox say 8,9 10 million per year. No negotiations. Garland wants the leverage. - Ken Williams, therefore, is attempting to trade Garland for two bullpen arms, not prospects per se. Although one could be an "on the cusp" guy. (This is the most ridiculous reasoning I've ever heard. If Garland wants mega dollars in free agency he's going to have to pitch his ass off this year. A 3-15 implosing won't get him squat. That said, if he goes 20-2 for us in search of a big deal, more power to him and us. We have him this year. Keep him!!!!! - He also said that Crede will not sign a long term deal here, that it's Boras' job to get the player to free agency (duh). (I guess we'll lose Crede if Boras remains his agent. Again, keep him until that happens. If Joe hits .260 with 23 home runs and plays great defense, is anybody else going to offer him much more than the White Sox? I mean I love Joe but give me a break. Who is going to overpay much more than we will? Keep Joe). - Levine believes Garland could get as much as $9M in arbitration for 2006. Further he states the White Sox are, at present, several million over budget. (Screw the budget. Management needs to ride this into major crowds all season.Getting rid of Garland would be STUPID for business). No teams were mentioned as possible trading partners. Levine said KW's primary objective right now is moving Garland for bullpen help. --I don't understand how trading Garland will help us a bit. I love BMac's potential but he hasn't proven anything yet. He could turn into the early years Garland before he matures. We've already tinkered enough. Keep the rest of the team intact another season!!!!
  4. f he wants more than 8 million a season, later California kid. We don't need you. Take your .500 career elsewhere if you want huge money. Says you. Not me. Pay him. How come we can keep signing Mark B to contracts and can't do the same with Jon. Jon Garland was a STAR last year. he should be part of our team for the next 5 years minimum. Just sign him.
  5. I agree with the start of this thread. Sign these 3 guys up! Even if they suck in the future, which they won't, they will forever be thought of fondly for bringing us our first world series title in 1,000 years.
  6. Before everyone gives Willie the boot outta town, just remember he started the White Sox 9th with a hit in game 4 of the WS and scored the winning run. Love him or hate him, he will ALWAYS be remembered for that... Exactly. I forever thank Willie for that. And Ozzie for going with him.
  7. Home come Fogg is so inconsistent? He had a few good games and some where he was horrid. I wouldn't mind us picking him back up as you say to replace Viz.
  8. Trading Garland after what he did for us last year would be asinine. We swept the World Series in 4 games; we lost one postseason game. And we want to get rid of one of the cogs???? Ridiculous. Pay the man some money.
  9. I didn't realize Fred's fastball was dwindling. I just figured it'd be nice to keep him until he's as old as some of those crafty guys who pitch into their 40s. If Brandon is the real deal, fine, but I prefer the big 3 I mentioned the next 7 years.
  10. I chose Willie because of that base hit he got in the Series.
  11. If he keeps pitching the way he did late last season ... wow. He'll be a fan favorite for a long time. Remember for a while he was our only reliable starter when we were blowing the big lead to Cleveland. I love that guy.
  12. Good points, I just think the idea of defense and pitching should be our mantra forever and Jon unless he gets broke appears to be one of those special talents (as long as he keeps listening to Buehrle and works fast). I think Mark B, Jon and Fred should be our big three for the next 7 years.
  13. The Sox finally have a Brooks Robinson/Ventura type third baseman for the next 10 years. I hope they don't trade Joe.
  14. I think Crede panned out. He could easily have been MVP of the Series. It's not like we've won a batch of world championships in the last 100 years. Crede's defense and offense was instrumental. So I personlly think he's panned out already.
  15. I don't like trading 2 more members of our title team. Even for Tejada. Uribe was awesome in the Series. He ain't half bad and Jon was incredible.
  16. Moronotti item in his column: Another talked-about option, if the Orioles retain Tejada, is shipping Garland and Joe Crede to Texas for power-hitting third baseman Hank Blalock and center fielder Brad Wilkerson --No! This would be the one trade I balk at. This trade would and will suck! You don't dump Crede and Garland. Do that and we have traded TOO MANY of the players who brought us a frickign World Series for the first time in 500 years!

    My rant

I don't think we'll miss Viz much. We have good starters, I have a hunch Bobby isn't going to be our closer all season. I bet it winds up being committee which is fine with me.
  18. I don't want to trade Jon. I want to keep him. He was awesome last year and it's good to have some guys around who are starting to blossom after being in our own organization several years.
  19. Unless the D'backs sign Kenny Lofton, Chris Young will have every opportunity to be their Opening Day CF. Yes, this year. We've come a long way since we had Kenny Lofton. I disliked that guy in a Sox uniform, big time. He reeked for us.
  20. It's a White Sox town in terms of people who know baseball talking baseball. Our team won a gazillion games and completed the deal, winning it all. Our team is the one making all the notable offseason moves. It's a Cubs town in terms of the Cubs filling the park every day with vacationers and sight seers. Our team is the baseball team right now. We've dominated the news since May when it was obvious we were damn good, through the near collapse, through the postseason magic. GO SOX! The cubs however will always be the sideshow, out of state fans needing to go to Wrigley, etc.
  21. Your uncle should not hate Bill Veeck IMO. Run this past him: Without Bill Veeck there are no Chicago White Sox. The team would have moved. That is not opinion, check the history books, it's fact. Thanks Bill for the 2005 World championship. Without you, it's the Seattle White Sox.
  22. If he's this good a prospect, shouldn't we have gotten somebody better for him? That's all I'm asking. If he's this great why did we have to include 3 players in the deal?

Also chisoxfan makes good points about our bullpen. Marte was a lefty we could throw out there. Yes he sucked last year but not in the Series.

    My rant

I'm glad he's making moves. I like the guys we've acquired. I'm just concerned about losing Young. If he's the stud everybody says I hate to lose the next Mickey Mantle. I liked Marte and Rowand, too, but I like what we've picked up. I'm glad he's made moves and not stood pat.
  25. Fair enough W Harris, but I hope people don't ever forget what a stud Jon was last year. Man he was awesome.
