  1. I can't imagine being a GM and owner nowadays. Pitchers' arms are so brittle, no fault of their own. How can any team justify giving good money to any pitcher when it's almost certain the pitcher is going to get hurt a lot?
  2. I didn't watch the game so I can only lament the box score. What happened to Gio? It seems in modern baseball, good pitchers are capable of horrendous outings way more than in the past. Are hitters that good nowadays that pitchers are going to get hammered every once in a while?
  3. Great sweep on the road. Certainly it's been a while since the Sox have swept a DH, especially on the road. Looks like Yermin is last year's Abreu. He's gonna be the guy who produces all year long (knock on wood, etc.). And Tim is at the stage of his career he's going to produce almost every single day as well (knock on wood, etc.). Everybody else is gonna have to get hot at some point and probably will.
  4. Good job Hendriks. Sox are better equipped to win 7 inning games right now til the starters start working deeper into games (aside from the no no). Nice win in Boston.
  5. If this is true, it's alarming. You'd think he remembers how he hit in college.
  6. Collins 4 for 28 for a .143. BA with two walks and 5 RBI. Vaughn 4 for 25 with six walks and 1 RBI Jose hitting .208 with two HRs, 10 walks, 10 RBI. Eight of the RBI are off his two grand slams. I could go on, but I'm disappointed in some of the guys' hitting.
  7. I'll admit this slow start is kind of sad/annoying. So many guys starting slowly plus the injuries to TA (he's back) and Eloy have killed the Sox so far. Team doesn't pass the eye test yet.
  8. I think it's Jose of course. My Mr. White Sox of all time: Minoso, just as Banks is Mr. Cub, Minnie is Mr. Sox.
  9. Was there any more room in the row? You or the guy shoulda moved maybe. I couldn't sit next to a stranger like that in the age of COVID and it's just kinda creepy.
  10. I never despised Rodon. Not a strong opinion. I am just astounded and happy about the other night. Man he had good stuff through the ninth inning. Wow.
  11. People who have a good grasp on their own mental/emotional states of mind can call us babies or worse, but some of us are worried about the vaccines. We are worried we are injecting some things that may cause severe side effects voluntarily and may regret it someday. There's not enough town halls or people talking about their own reactions to the shots to assure those of us that are fearful. Maybe we are babies but we have gotten the flu shot for years with no symptoms and don't want our bodies to break down because of us voluntarily putting vaccines in our body. My 30 year old cousin fainted and is still sick five days later. Some have gotten blood clots. I think there should be more education and discussion about the shots. Personally I will never trust the government again after some things that have occurred over the last 14 months. That said ... for society I took shot No. 1 moderna as soon as I got the call. I will accept shot No. 2 when they call. I pray I have no symptoms especially since truthfully I don't want the shots. My stance should anger nobody. It's my own personal battle mentally. I AM GETTING fully vaccinated as soon as humanly possible for society. The strategy you mention should be a kinder, gentler approach to all this. I talked to a lady at church who is normally calm and seemed normal. She freaked when I asked about the vaccine. Said no way in hell she'll ever get vaccinated. You could see fear in her eyes. I tried to hold a discussion of what I know and she would have none of it. Shook her head violently. No shot.
  12. Abreu seems to be pressing at the plate. Maybe not, just seems that way. Unfortunately he may not heat up til the weather does. I'm just gonna stay patient. As long as team doesn't fall five under .500 or something. That would be really bad. Better only be 1 or 2 under .500 or 1 or 2 over til Sox get hot. None of this five under .500.
  13. That was great. Congrats Rodon. I enjoyed watching him throw smoke in the ninth, too. ... And Yermin is too much to believe. Appears to be a natural hitter. Just play him every day with a few days off the rest of the season and see what we've got. He's amazing. Kudos to Rodon though.
  14. The game was very boring. I don't know if it's permanent, but I also find myself not getting upset at this team anymore. Sox are supposed to be great, fine, let's see if it comes to fruition or not. As a viewer I also had no interest in watching Lamb and Nick Williams, though. Yes the loss of TA and Engel hurt. I think the lineup will heat up when TA comes back. The loss of Eloy is so bad. I'd have loved to see this lineup with Eloy and TA all season.
  15. I'm down on society of course, but as far as the vaccine I can see why people are scared. I hate to be a big baby, but yes I was scared for shot one and I am very scared for upcoming shot two. I won't bore everybody with why I'm scared but of course I am. My shot is moderna but stuff like this of course frightens me. https://www.yahoo.com/news/mississippi-dad-suffers-stroke-johnson-130818558.html
  16. A lot of Sox at bats are so boring. I still say the loss of Timmy and Eloy is huge. Lineup will improve a lot when Tim gets back. Can't wait for some of the other guys to get hot, which they will. Not so sure I like Robert's swinging at everything early in the count and my guy, Abreu's slow start, but hey, Sox still are going to be very good this year. .... I'm not a big fan of Lamb, though I was a fan of Dennis Lamp back in the day.
  17. Nice high heat. p.s. Our pitchers have been in some hellacious jams this season. Lot of second and third one out; second and third no out type stuff.
  18. Can I make a few comments all over the map? Feel free to blast me or scream at me. I haven't posted much in a while and figured some might want to see how I'm feeling about COVID in our world. -- Best wishes to Dick Allen's wife. I truly am saddened about her problems and wish her well. And wish Dick well in getting her 100 percent healthy. -- My brother is a nurse in a juvenile detention facility in Chicago. After few to no problems the last many months, suddenly 60 percent of the youngsters in there have COVID now, he said. This is a recent development. He's had his first shot. I pray he doesn't get COVID and the kids there are safe. He did say of all the infected juveniles none of them have had to go to the hospital or anything. This is in a Chicago suburb. -- My cousin, 30, drove to Indiana Saturday to get Johnson and Johnson vaccine because he only wanted one shot. He did have a problem. He fainted within five minutes after getting the shot. He fell but some people caught him and he hit his head on a shelf but did not sustain injuries. They gave him juice and water and food and he declined to get checked out via ambulance and is OK. Not trying to stir anything up, but he did faint and the person who administered the shot told him she was going to truly insist rather than suggest people wait 15 minutes before leaving after the vaccine is administered. -- I was scheduled to finally get my first shot (Pfizer after checking sign ups all over town every day) in a drive-through clinic at the fairgrounds in my car on Friday. Well, I spoke to a friend who bled badly after getting Pfizer No. 1 and I spoke to a few others who had some pretty bad symptoms after getting Pfizer-ed. So on Thursday my friend texted me and said a certain small drugstore was well stocked and I'd assuredly be able to get in there. I checked and it would be Moderna. My brother and sister in law had a sore arm, nothing else from Moderna and I talked to somebody else who had no problems at all. The way my brain works ... I felt more comfortable going to a small drugstore than a drive through at the fairgrounds, so I went and got Moderna Thursday at the mom and pop drugstore. I sat down and the shot-giver said, 'Do you have any reservations?' I said 'actually I do. I watch too much TV.' She said I might have a sore arm but I should be fine. I got good vibes from her. I got the shot and indeed for 48 hours my arm was pretty sore. No big deal there. I'm not a big baby. It went away after 48 hrs. My next shot is in 2 or 3 weeks. They will text me to come in. My point to you is, though I am going to be fully vaccinated soon and have made the decision to vaccinate, I am a little surprised that so many people in my life I consider intelligent to brilliant don't AT ALL share any of my concerns (that I do not voice out loud; I keep them inward). I am concerned about all the little snippets I see on social media from people that are saying, 'Don't get vaccinated. In 8 months when there are new variants attacking your body your immune system will be toast to those varients.' Yes I worry that this is some scam and I will ultimately die as part of this vaccine experiment. It's just me. I was wondering if any of you know folks reluctant to grt vaccinated. Thanks for letting me share this. I am going to be fully vaccinated as soon as humanly possible (I checked the lists every day until I got in the drug store) and I am obeying the recommendations of all my loved ones and friends who have told me to get vaccinated. Here's hoping for a normal world. I'd like to go to some plays this summer in KC and some minor league and big league ballgames. Please tell me if you have any relatives or loved ones as nervous as I've been re. the vaccine.
  19. I wish Sox would give my fave prospect, Rutherford, a chance. He may stink, but I have hopes for him someday.
  20. greg775 replied to reiks12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox ultimately blew this one late, but the good news is if you needed a Sunday nap, the 4th through 6th innings would have given you some nice ZZZs time. BORING.
  21. Good thread. I'd let the game go 11 innings then put runners on second and third for the 12th. There will be urgency to win before that 12th frame. Game will be almost assured of ending no later than 12 innings. Fans will stay cause that 12th frame will be EXCITING stuff.
  22. Tim Anderson is out. Eloy is out.
  23. And old school managing. Glad Tony left him in. I know you generally leave a guy in with a shutout, but this early in the season in the parade of relievers generation ... I could have seen him yanking him after 7 or something. Sox are off to a decent start at 3-4 on the road and 1-0 at home.
  24. That would suck, but the small sample size has been so impressive I'd give him a long slump before I bench him. I guess the pitchers will adjust but he attacks the ball. Sox need this surprise production with Eloy out IMO.
  25. I'm so glad Tony is playing Yermin daily. I've seen enough. I want him in there six of every seven games. I want to enjoy this guy. As long as we are in an era of hitters either hitting a HR or striking out, I wanna see my Yermin. My gosh that was a blast today!! Keep playing him, Tony. Sox have had a ton of busts that were supposed to be great through the years. Let's see if Yermin is the real deal. Thanx Tony so far, keep playing him please!
