  1. I'm down on society of course, but as far as the vaccine I can see why people are scared. I hate to be a big baby, but yes I was scared for shot one and I am very scared for upcoming shot two. I won't bore everybody with why I'm scared but of course I am. My shot is moderna but stuff like this of course frightens me. https://www.yahoo.com/news/mississippi-dad-suffers-stroke-johnson-130818558.html
  2. A lot of Sox at bats are so boring. I still say the loss of Timmy and Eloy is huge. Lineup will improve a lot when Tim gets back. Can't wait for some of the other guys to get hot, which they will. Not so sure I like Robert's swinging at everything early in the count and my guy, Abreu's slow start, but hey, Sox still are going to be very good this year. .... I'm not a big fan of Lamb, though I was a fan of Dennis Lamp back in the day.
  3. Nice high heat. p.s. Our pitchers have been in some hellacious jams this season. Lot of second and third one out; second and third no out type stuff.
  4. Can I make a few comments all over the map? Feel free to blast me or scream at me. I haven't posted much in a while and figured some might want to see how I'm feeling about COVID in our world. -- Best wishes to Dick Allen's wife. I truly am saddened about her problems and wish her well. And wish Dick well in getting her 100 percent healthy. -- My brother is a nurse in a juvenile detention facility in Chicago. After few to no problems the last many months, suddenly 60 percent of the youngsters in there have COVID now, he said. This is a recent development. He's had his first shot. I pray he doesn't get COVID and the kids there are safe. He did say of all the infected juveniles none of them have had to go to the hospital or anything. This is in a Chicago suburb. -- My cousin, 30, drove to Indiana Saturday to get Johnson and Johnson vaccine because he only wanted one shot. He did have a problem. He fainted within five minutes after getting the shot. He fell but some people caught him and he hit his head on a shelf but did not sustain injuries. They gave him juice and water and food and he declined to get checked out via ambulance and is OK. Not trying to stir anything up, but he did faint and the person who administered the shot told him she was going to truly insist rather than suggest people wait 15 minutes before leaving after the vaccine is administered. -- I was scheduled to finally get my first shot (Pfizer after checking sign ups all over town every day) in a drive-through clinic at the fairgrounds in my car on Friday. Well, I spoke to a friend who bled badly after getting Pfizer No. 1 and I spoke to a few others who had some pretty bad symptoms after getting Pfizer-ed. So on Thursday my friend texted me and said a certain small drugstore was well stocked and I'd assuredly be able to get in there. I checked and it would be Moderna. My brother and sister in law had a sore arm, nothing else from Moderna and I talked to somebody else who had no problems at all. The way my brain works ... I felt more comfortable going to a small drugstore than a drive through at the fairgrounds, so I went and got Moderna Thursday at the mom and pop drugstore. I sat down and the shot-giver said, 'Do you have any reservations?' I said 'actually I do. I watch too much TV.' She said I might have a sore arm but I should be fine. I got good vibes from her. I got the shot and indeed for 48 hours my arm was pretty sore. No big deal there. I'm not a big baby. It went away after 48 hrs. My next shot is in 2 or 3 weeks. They will text me to come in. My point to you is, though I am going to be fully vaccinated soon and have made the decision to vaccinate, I am a little surprised that so many people in my life I consider intelligent to brilliant don't AT ALL share any of my concerns (that I do not voice out loud; I keep them inward). I am concerned about all the little snippets I see on social media from people that are saying, 'Don't get vaccinated. In 8 months when there are new variants attacking your body your immune system will be toast to those varients.' Yes I worry that this is some scam and I will ultimately die as part of this vaccine experiment. It's just me. I was wondering if any of you know folks reluctant to grt vaccinated. Thanks for letting me share this. I am going to be fully vaccinated as soon as humanly possible (I checked the lists every day until I got in the drug store) and I am obeying the recommendations of all my loved ones and friends who have told me to get vaccinated. Here's hoping for a normal world. I'd like to go to some plays this summer in KC and some minor league and big league ballgames. Please tell me if you have any relatives or loved ones as nervous as I've been re. the vaccine.
  5. I wish Sox would give my fave prospect, Rutherford, a chance. He may stink, but I have hopes for him someday.
  6. greg775 replied to reiks12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox ultimately blew this one late, but the good news is if you needed a Sunday nap, the 4th through 6th innings would have given you some nice ZZZs time. BORING.
  7. Good thread. I'd let the game go 11 innings then put runners on second and third for the 12th. There will be urgency to win before that 12th frame. Game will be almost assured of ending no later than 12 innings. Fans will stay cause that 12th frame will be EXCITING stuff.
  8. Tim Anderson is out. Eloy is out.
  9. And old school managing. Glad Tony left him in. I know you generally leave a guy in with a shutout, but this early in the season in the parade of relievers generation ... I could have seen him yanking him after 7 or something. Sox are off to a decent start at 3-4 on the road and 1-0 at home.
  10. That would suck, but the small sample size has been so impressive I'd give him a long slump before I bench him. I guess the pitchers will adjust but he attacks the ball. Sox need this surprise production with Eloy out IMO.
  11. I'm so glad Tony is playing Yermin daily. I've seen enough. I want him in there six of every seven games. I want to enjoy this guy. As long as we are in an era of hitters either hitting a HR or striking out, I wanna see my Yermin. My gosh that was a blast today!! Keep playing him, Tony. Sox have had a ton of busts that were supposed to be great through the years. Let's see if Yermin is the real deal. Thanx Tony so far, keep playing him please!
  12. I'm not worried about Madrigal yet. Quite frankly, I don't have my "hate" radar focused on any Sox player yet. Usually it comes out and strikes me hard the moment I start to dislike a player. The experts say the Sox are here to stay so I'm just going to try to enjoy the ride. Frankly with Eloy and Anderson out, the team is not going to have many winning road trips. As far as when to demote Madrigal, it would only be if his defense stinks through June 1. If he's a lousy defender that's not acceptable at 2B. I think the team will improve soon. 3-4 isn't that bad. Let's see how the team fares in division play. Obviously team won't win it if the injuries pile up. I see in the future steady improvement in the pitching and hoping on the hitting.
  13. Bad at bat. I thought Vaughn had one cookie for sure and that last pitch was not one to take. Just my opinion.
  14. Rutherford, baby!
  15. Time for Soxtalk to get behind Collins 100 percent. The guy passes the eye test. The guy belongs, baby. Let him stink some nights just as a stud like Grandal will stink some nights. Zack is home grown and ready, baby.
  16. I love Zack Collins. That.Is.All.
  17. I think most can agree the Sox deserve a D for that first series, considering all the things mentioned in this thread. Moving forward, I hope the Sox can split the 4-game road series and still win 2 of 3 in three-game series in which they play especially bad baseball. That first series was rotten; see if improvement comes in Series No. 2.
  18. Hubert Davis should be the choice. He's only 50. He's been a UNC assistant a long time. He's a part of the Carolina "family" and their AD would be crazy to go outside the family when that's been the Carolina way for so long. Unless Few wants it (no way, he's a legend already with the Zags, especially if he wins tonight) or Brad Stevens (is Brad Stevens that great?) it has to go to UNC family member Davis. ... I will say if Few went anywhere else it'd be UNC I bet. He and Roy Williams are very close.
  19. Not pushing the panic button but I think I jinxed the team by predicting Sox pitching staff might really be the surprise of baseball. I know baseball has changed (oh, has it changed, lift and pull and K and BB) but it wasn't TOO long ago a baseball cliche was that the pitching was way ahead of the hitting early in the season. Not being overly negative, but I think we can agree the Sox pitching deserved a D at best for the opening series. Looking for improvement once the Sox get home. Yes, for some weird reason, the road continues to bother the Sox even without a ton of fans. Sox could have won 3 of those games easily but squandered them away. I'm not despondent, just a bit sad the Sox got smoked, losing 3 of 4.
  20. Five hits is insane. Wonder what Sox player last went 5 for 5. Nice win. Angels are pretty good.
  21. I like the top 7 in this lineup. Let's score some runs. Are we gonna win tonight? I'm sick of teams that struggle winning on the road. Also I didn't watch closely last night. How did Tony do in his first game in a while? Close game so there had to be some strategy involved. Was he masterful or was he the same as RR?
  22. Some fans don't like their baseball mixed with politics. For instance I know NOTHING about the issue at hand here. I'm sick of politics and trying to ignore all politics for a while. Too bad for Atlanta. Move the game to Chicago, the greatest city in the world.
  23. Great post. Fans are who they are. That's why I like the Randy Quaid character in Major League so much. I do wish we had Eloy's bat in the lineup. We are noticeably weaker without his lumber.
  24. I got a bad feeling late in that game and was tired and turned it off and went to bed. Thought we were in good shape when Eaton homered
  25. Sorry to hear this, Dick Allen. Best wishes for your wife. ... This all just sucks. If we get COVID we could be screwed. The vaccine obviously is risky as well. I haven't gotten my shots yet cause Kansas must be hopeless. I'm all signed up everywhere in Lawrence and no vaccines yet. I sure hope for the best for everybody but I would be lying if I said I wasn't concerned.
