How good of a hitter is Eloy Jimenez?
It's interesting how many true bashers the Sox have in their lineup. That's why I want Vaughn up as soon as possible. Another basher. In terms of pure hitting talent this puts the 1977 Sox to shame even. All these great bashers take the heat off players individually. Who needs to feel pressure when there's Eloy, Robert, Vaughn, Moncada, Anderson, Abreu and Grandal. Even Collins is a prospect with power. My point is Eloy is amazing hitter who should be so carefree with so many strong bats around him. I would guess the only negative is we'll probably have a team hit into a lot of double plays, hopefully not too many in this era of lift and pull. GO ELOY!

Andrew Vaughn Hype Thread
That was a blast. Can u imagine LaRussa watching Vaughn hit that blast and thinking, "I've got THAT GUY in my lineup, too???" LaRussa is loaded with talent. I'm still a little skeptical on pitching but he's got some bats.

I was thinking this is a time to always remind yourself to be selfish. Only you can save yourself from stuff like COVID. Not to be a cynic but again only you truly cares about you (others might to a certain extent of course).

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Are we in a stage we can sort of "let our guard down?" Just asking because I have some travel opportunities and still am not crazy about getting on a plane or train or bus or stay in a hotel. I have not had the opportunity to be vaccinated yet. I ask because at least around here the general consensus is people are going back to work in person, people are letting their guards down definitely. I know a lot of this has been political but where do you all see us in terms of safety/everyday life? I STILL don't want to get COVID. Thank u.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I'm definitely willing to do anything to avoid Covid knock on wood and have made the decision to take the vaccines as presented to me. I'm just waiting to get the call it's my turn. I was wondering though ... isn't it strange we are hearing today it might be wise to get three doses? Does the fact there is discussion about what should be done at this point concern anybody? Shouldn't our scientists be convinced at the proper course of action and that's that? And shouldn't we hear daily reports of any problems of people who have been vaccinated? p.s. I think I read too many articles. They can scare/confuse a person after a while. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/third-pfizer-dose-covid-19-vaccine-maker-studying-booster-shots-n1258775

WTF It's Seriously &^$%^ Cold Outside
If this were the old days you all could read my opinions of Franken, Cruz and Ventura, etc. I've learned my lesson. Ah for the good old days. ... More seriously, glad u and your family members are safe, Tex. My power went off here for 2-3 hours and it's amazing how quickly the place can freeze up. Glad u are OK, Tex. I watched some clips from Austin and the lines to get in a convenience store were around the block. Scary days.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I wear my mask every day, everywhere and hope it has protected me. I did finally catch a vicious cough/cold two weeks ago just as the daily barrage of temperatures in the single digits hit. That baffled me as to how I caught it with the mask on my face all day all the time. ... As far as issues some have with wearing a mask ... here's my unsolicited speculation. This has been going on a long time (a full year) and no doubt the "science" has been questioned by some. No doubt politics has infiltrated this pandemic all the way (Cuomo, Trump, individual governors etc, caught in the act of dining out while not wearing masks themselves). Some people just are fed up at some of the science they consider nonsense, especially when the word came out that "two masks are better than one. wear two masks." I think some people wanted to punch a wall when they heard that one. Just my speculation. I know as with most issues nowadays there's no tolerance for anybody's opinion if it differs from yours (not you Harry, speaking in generls). I wear my mask. I love my mask. I wash my masks and hand dry them. If I see someone without a mask I head the other way or way way around them. My health update: Since last March, one full year, have caught one severe cough/cold; so far still no COVID has penetrated my mask/system; knock on wood.

Did the South Side really get 14 inches by 103rd and Pulaski? Is it true Midway had 21 inches? Was Midway closed? That kind of stuff intrigues me.

2021 Catch-All
Tex: I'm wearing two scarves these days, long underwear under the jeans and double socks. Despite the precautions, Greg still caught a moderately nasty cold and cough. Reminds me of being a kid during winter time, and walking from 103rd St and Homan to Queen of Martyrs church, stopping in there to thaw for 2-3 minutes, then continuing the trek through St. Xavier grounds, onto Brother Rice property, entering Brother Rice in the early a.m. for my first class of the day -- Swimming! Brrrr.

Until they treat everyone the same, the churches have every right to responsibly hold services. You will never convince me what my church is doing isn't proper. Have you folks seen a huge church? Put 3 people max in a row every 4th row. Masks required; hand cleanser used by priest and everybody in church. 50 people max in a church that holds 1000. Cmon. If everything gets shut down, fine, shut down the churches. If everything is not shut down, let people of faith have their ONE outlet. Prayer and worship in their churches. You think suicide is rampant without community? I do. I saw a picture of a church service in an article that said church services are dangerous. I'll agree. The church was packed in the photo I saw, JUST LIKE airplanes and airport terminals. Responsible churches are not packed and totally socially distanced. The protests?? Superspreaders baby. The liquor stores? Cmon. Crowded. Superspreaders. BE FAIR or let us go to church if the church leaders limit the nos of people!!

Trust me, you'd feel safe in our church on Sunday. 3 to a pew max and it's a long pew. About 30-50 people total for 45 minute Mass (masks required) in a HUGE church. This folks is not a problem. Just is not.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I don't know if they are allowing 3 to sit in a row (I think they are). If so ... case closed it's about the most dangerous place you could be re. COVID. Why? My gosh, I'd say half the time I fly SW, the person in the middle is all over me during the flight. THERE'S NOT ENOUGH SPACE. Somebody lets out a cough, cmon. COVID! I do agree the hurried packed security lines also would be bad. People are fumbling for their stuff trying to hurry and yes people are in their personal space spreading GERMS. I tell you you hear nothing about air travel. If they ever shutdown cities again and make us stay in for 2 weeks, it's insane to allow air travel. Insane.

2020 Election Thoughts
Whatever. I can sleep well knowing I have worn my mask throughout and have basically only put myself at risk on a handful of occasions eating with a buddy or relative at a restaurant (usually outdoors, always with mask), going to Mass, going to the barber. Yes I can hold a discussion about how unfair I feel and felt it is for government officials to say 'Do as I say not as I do.' And the ilk. You are very wrong that I have not taken this seriously. I have basically been a recluse working remotely, declining travel, wearing my mask. Nothing I can do to change anybody's opinion on a message board so I won't try. I don't think I'm evil; if you think I am evil, peace. I'm going to try to start posting less because my opinions evolve, certainly evolve in a span of nine months. And I don't do a good job of expressing my feelings. As far as the governor, she did a better job when she actually started seeking other people's opinions, medical opinions, rather than making dictatorial decisions on her own. Remember back in March/April, governors were out of line huffing and puffing in harsh language. As this thing continued, the governor "lightened up" a bit and actually stopped talking down to people. I'd never vote for her again but she improved her demeanor. As a citizen and taxpayer I have a right to feel this way about her.

I did want a haircut badly I'll admit it. And wanted my store owning barber buddy to put food on the table. And I did want to go to Mass the entiriety of the pandemic. But I've always worn a mask and am afraid of the virus. I've never been anti mask. I've taken this seriously the whole way through and yes I'm afraid of the virus still.

2020 Election Thoughts
Thank you I truly didn't mean to offend. I cried at my dad and uncle's funeral at the brilliant military aspects of it. The playing of the trumpet by the Navy personnel and them giving my mom the flag. Ditto my uncle's funeral with the Marines. I cried unashamedly at both. Sorry if my words about dying for my country offended. Since I was not in the service I don't have the right to make such an assertion. If I feel that way I should keep it to myself. One of my best friends was active in Vietnam and I've heard him speak many times about the atrocities and I've tried to help be a lending ear. The military is important to my family and myself. I always thank people in uniform for their service. Hopefully you accept my apology for a bad sentence.

2020 Election Thoughts
No it won't make elections a farce. Hopefully if the review of the voting is done right it'll make elections safer. I don't trust politicians and their parties one iota as evidenced by their behaviors during the pandemic. This review isn't taking very long and it's not hindering Kamala/Joe from getting their staffs in order, etc. Don't see the problem.

2020 Election Thoughts
Thanks for your first sentence. That's what I want to do. I'm on the record here with my feelings about Trump BTW: Bad guy, bad personality, egomaniac; evidence suggests he has bad morals; he may even deserve jail time over his taxes; I'm all for him getting that looked at. I also am on the record here as loving some of his policies and things he's done. .... Regarding there's two sides to every story. I was reading today that Ted Cruz said Joe is telling Democrats in the Senate to hold off on voting for a relief bill that would send us all 1200 more bucks cause he thinks stalemating will help Democrats win Georgia and a Senate majority (which they will). If that's true, folks, that's pretty despicable of Joe. Now those of you who love Kamala/Biden will say "hogwash, greg is full of it, did he hear that on Fox news?). But there are two sides to every story and that was out there today from Cruz. Just because Trump is a bad guy doesn't mean we can't examine possible voter fraud. What's the negative to checking the votes and possible voter fraud? Joe is still picking his cabinet; all systems are go for Joe to take over in January. It's important IMO to make sure it's a clean election. Republicans BTW have taken this result rather well. There are no riots over the election. Do you folks really believe there would be no riots (except in some of the hotbeds like Portland) had Trump won?? I mean cmon. My opinion is there would have been utter chaos in the streets had DT won. if any of you want access to a scary link DM me.
