  1. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Losing begets losing. I'd rather see the Sox improve their scouting and talent evaluation so they can draft wiser instead of earlier. It would also enable them to make better FA signings. They also need to improve the organization at developing talent in the minors. In my opinion, any MLB organization that tanks intentionally just to get a higher draft position (I'm not saying the Sox are doing this) deserves to wind up with a high draft slot for decades on end. Losing is for losers. AMEN AMEN. Worded so much better than I'm capable of! I agree with Fireworks man.
  2. QUOTE (Tony @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) This is a Greg argument in a nutshell. Upset at people wanting to the team to lose for a draft pick and crying that you just can't understand that line of thinking, then following it up by saying "Well I really have no interest in the draft." Well then of course you aren't going to understand the concept of artificial suppression of your team, you are CHOOSING not to understand. If you actually cared about the draft, how a rebuilding team has to operate and the long term decisions that go into it, you may understand the concept of losing games in the 2017 season, but you CHOOSE not to. Don't go on rants on other posters because you've made the decision to be purposefully obtuse on the topic. Oh, and go get Rick Hahn on the phone and ask him what draft pick he wants after the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He wants losses, too. I'm not choosing not to understand. In my mind (and I assure you other fans), sure the No. 7 pick was great and the No. 8 pick sucked eggs. But rather than deduce, by gosh I wish we lost 5 more games to get the 7 pick, my brain suggests there are TONS of great players available at 8 and the regime FAILED by taking a Fulmer in that slot. I do have no interest in the draft. As a fan yes I have interest when a Sox draftee ultimately makes the bigs and succeeds. Does not following his progression make me a bad fan? Maybe, but I don't think so. The team that takes the field in Chicago is the one that matters to me. How they get there can be compelling for some, but not me. Give me victories and I'll attend the parade. I'm truly sorry if my position angers/annoys many but the active rooting for losses angers/offends me as well. My bad.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) This time a million. It's easy to say enjoy the game any way I want. And you'll enjoy the game any way you want. At the same time ... the loss lovers feel the need to post time and again how much they want a loss or how they want and expect the team to go 10-30 in their next 40, etc, oft times in the middle of a big win or after a big win. It could be stated their posts are affecting the enjoyment of the game for me. So I in turn post something that affects the enjoyment of the game for them. In other words, if they'd tone down the rooting for losses I'd tone down the rooting for wins. You know, it goes both ways. When you have the non popular position as I do much of the time, my posts stand out to those of you who take the popular position when in reality 80 percent of the time I'm just responding to somebody's post. Yes, enjoy the games any way you want, but when somebody posts something and I mention, "What about Trout?" and nobody has a good response, it makes you wonder. ... GO SOX!
  4. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) I'd rather they wind up with the 25th pick and draft the next Mike Trout. Isn't Trout the ultimate counter argument against tanking? The loss lovers have no comeback. Give me wins during the six glorious months known as baseball season then give me a good first round draft pick. Working fans have the right to demand as much is demanded of them in the workplace.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) Well Greg, you see, Trump lied. If his TrumpCare plan is worse than ObamaCare then shame on him. I still don't understand the core issues.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) Yes, he did, because it did suck. And his people did propose a completely overhauled system. Except the new system is infinitely worse than Obama Care. And this is coming from someone who was very negatively affected by ObamaCare If you get a chance could you write us a long essay on here explaining your situation? And how ObamaCare didn't help you much and how TrumpCare will be worse? I truly can't understand this issue from the complicated poorly written articles about it. Thanks. I hope whatever your issue is will be fine.
  7. Say what you want about Trump the chump and how the country despises him. It still was unique for SNL to open with "Alleluia" song ostensibly meaning thank God that Trump has allegorically hung himself and will be gone by the start of next season's SNL shows. I'm all for comedy but think that one was kind of a stretch. I still don't think Trump is going to get impeached over the Russia thing. We shall see I guess. SNL sneaking in David S. Pumpkins in a skit was pretty classic. Overall the show was not that funny again, though. My point is I thought the Alleluia thing was a bit disrespectful at this point. I could be wrong. Maybe this week is the week the Russia thing hangs Trump.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) Avi is 25 years old. He had a ton of pressure put on him as everyone started to compare him to Miggy Cabrera. Youth and a big head have apparently been dealt with and judging by his changed attitude and his physical fitness I am glad that real professional baseball staff make decisions on players like Avi and not folks posting their opinions El Rockin, you are my kind of fan. You are so positive! I like everybody else on this board except you pretty much thought of Avi as Tank, except for one thing, his effort. From what I could tell, Avi always gave great effort even when failing.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) But to Greg's point, if they just drafted Trout, no rebuild would have been necessary. Or signed Miguel Sano the same year the A's paid almost twice as much to Michael Ynoa. What do you guys say to that?? There are two sides to every issue.
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) What are your thoughts on the 7th instead of 8th pick in the '15 draft? I really have no interest in the draft. They got benintendi; we got Fulmer. So slot would have bailed the Sox out for making a horrible pick? I guess. I just don't have to care. It's still a huge nonsequitir for a fan to root for his/her team to lose over something as mystic as the draft. Anything can happen in the draft. Rooting for losses for draft slot is a non sequitir. I ask again what do all your relatives and friends think when you actively root for your team to suck? Very bizarre behavior to most of the world. You want your team to blow chunks for six months to position itself for that one day in June when you allegedly hit the jackpot and get a Fulmer, Rodon or Beckham. I'm not ignoring your point. Great, two more losses would have gotten the Sox Benintendi. Great I guess. I don't believe in fate like that. I'm just saying a non loss lover would look at that situation this way ... the No. 8 pick still could have brought a star. The Sox took Fulmer which now looks like a miss. You guys can root for losses all you want. It's just shocking and upsetting to me for some reason still. The reward of rooting for my team to lose and loving it when they lose to me is not worth the risk of a one-day pick in which the team has a very good chance of f***ing up anyway. Just get me a good player whether its 7, 8 or 18 please. It's your ... job, White sox!
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ May 21, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) My hope is they play every 54 games at 23-31, which means 4-9 the next 13. Bottom line, they need to have the worst AL record with a losing interleague record. If they do that, they would max out on their draft position. What do you think of the picks of Fulmer and Rodon and Beckham? Isn't this the same regime? You loss lovers slay me. To be a fan and want your team to lose is so bizarre. What do non statniks in your life think of this silliness?
  12. Avi baby. The team of Hawk and Wimpy. Loved watching Freeman pitch the ninth. Kept it on cause I had a feeling a position player would pitch. Nice win.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2017 -> 04:48 AM) I had a girlfriend who lived with me and wanted me to stop. So I did and a week later she had to stop me from leaping off of our balcony at 4am. Luckily I was so asleep I couldn't climb but she heard me rip open the screen to get out there. It's nuts. That sucks. You must really knock yourself out now to sleep deeply. Can you suggest some normal sleep aid? My fitbit says I am restless so much it'd make your head spin.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:29 AM) My friend who passed last year from cancer had to get it illegally. It was the only thing that helped him. I used to drive it from Chicago or have s*** sent from Denver. It was awful. But that's another discussion. I'd love to see somebody illegally using pot who has cancer get arrested, demand a trial and explain how it helps and see how a jury can convict that person of a crime. You'd have to be a scrooge. Pelphrey has had a good game. Nice.
  15. I like him so far. It "seems" like our team doesn't do as much stupid stuff as the Robin era. And the team shows life at times, etc. I'd give him a B for keeping this gawd awful team near .500. Nice job so far.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:20 AM) At his age with his joint paint I hope he got some edibles. It would really help. Not to get political, but I think anybody in severe discomfort should be allowed to get stoned. All the time.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:25 AM) You mean happy when winning and upset when losing? Probably. But is it always that simple?
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:21 AM) Well he's a narcissistic egomaniac. So par for the course. I wonder if he's manic depressive. Some nights he's just a prick. Others he's a delight.
  19. QUOTE (reiks12 @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:20 AM) Hawk and Wimpy are so good together, it is a shame Hawk ran him out of the booth all those years back That's what I was thinking. That was corny but a good line by Wimpy. "Avi has a weight problem; he can't wait to get up there." Not bad. I'm sure it's been said before many times, but I can't recall it. Good job Wimp.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:17 AM) How'd you like that I loved it. That ball exploded off his bat and kept rolling. 3-3 for Avi. Damn.
  21. Just a single Avi. Another RBI please.
  22. This could be a wild game. Pelphrey is eventually gonna get hit hard. I say Seattle scores six before game is over, but we should be able to win.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:03 AM) Everything in me still says don't buy into Avi.....but it's hard not to. I don't know what the writers and broadcasters think of Avi the person, but I'm assuming he's a prince of a person if he nodded at the Soxtalk poster last night at the game. Also, just watching these games on mlb.com he's always hustled his ass off and has always seemed like he's cared even when butchering balls in right field. What I'm trying to say is ... buy into Avi. If he turns back into Beckham the rest of the season, he'll be gone forever. So root for this man now. It was his last chance this season and he's already earned his paltry little salary. BELIEVE IN AVI. He appears to be a guy worthy of rooting for! Avi baby!
  24. The fact Avi nodded to the poster on here last night makes him one of my faves. Avi Garcia deserves credit no matter what happens the rest of the season. He's already had seven good weeks. People should be on the Avi bandwagon. If one of our young prospects was doing this, people would be having fits of joy. Avi baby! He's one of our best players so do you trade him? We traded Sale. We're gonna trade Q. He is our every day player version of those guys.
