CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
Way to go Avi. My MLB.com is WAY behind. Four home runs for Avi on the season.

CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2016 -> 02:36 AM) How many starts does Johnson get before they pull the plug? 3? That's about what Daniel Hudson got. Not many. One more if he's lucky.

CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2016 -> 02:41 AM) What happened to the "new and improved" positive thread mandate? You would think we were trailing the rest of the division by 3 1/2 games already. Is it realistic to EXPECT to win a game Erik Johnson starts against the Red Sox offense? We're getting outhit 8-1 and still only down by 3. And at least our offense is showing encouraging progress in the OBP/walk category compared to the past three seasons. It wasn't a positive mandate Caufield, you know that. It was to stop freaking out in game threads. Burying individual players and saying the game is Ova when this team has been resilient late in games.

Nice ovation from the crowd on the DP. Time to start hitting. Let's try to keep winning home series against the elite teams.

CINCO DE MAYO GAME THREAD: BOS @ SOX
Poor Johnson has already given up eight hits. We're at least one starter short it appears, just like KC. Latos I'm assuming will have some amazing outings and some that will suck. If Sox are all in, they better start planning on acquiring somebody.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2016 -> 11:28 PM) Good lord, Greg, try to have some empathy for others. You are saying their mere existence around you is a personal affront. Imagine if you had a burn or disability and had others avoiding you and saying the same about you? The person didn't hop in the car with you, they were just trying to order a sandwich. I guess I have to work on it. I was just getting out of my car and saw the guy with the heels several strides ahead of me and my taste buds said 'not here; not now.'

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:02 PM) What the hell are you talking about? Nobody says that if you are near someone in drag or is transgendered that you have to find them appealing. That's quite a jump in logic. I'm human. I felt the guy/woman was so unattractive that affected my appetite. Not everybody is perfect. If you are, congratulations. Can you comment on the Chris Matthews thing? He says on national TV the word God and is sexist regarding Trump's wife and that's OK??

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) That is plenty offensive to the transgendered, Greg. And yea, I do blame you for being so bigoted that you cant even stand in line next to a transgendered person long enough to order a sandwich. Pretty sad, man. I'm sorry. I was grossed out and freaked out. He had high heels was stumbling in them. Was obviously a guy. Had a dress. Can I help it that I like women, not men, and looking at the guy at that time made me not want to eat? He mighta been the nicest guy in the world, but I can't be willing to be nice 100 percent of the time. Seeing the guy brought all sorts of images of what might be wrong with him. Yes people think about stuff. At least I didn't say anything like Chris Matthews getting away with ogling Trump's wife on a hot mic. I just didn't follow the guy in. Some people don't think guys in drag are appealing that's all.

Chris Matthews appearing to get away with saying "My God that is good" regarding Trump's wife. He was caught on tape. No reprimand yet from the network or dismissal? He's accused Trump of being sexist. Then this??

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) I don't think people are worried about the actual trans people. People are worried about the straight guys who will claim to be trans in order to go into a women's shower room. People are also worried about their daughters being forced to see naked men, trans or straight. Exactly. Psychos will do whatever to be satisfied. It's like the crime of exposing oneself. Some people have this weird urge to do it and cops will tell you it's a crime that WILL occur every night in every community. Let me get this straight. People are going to boycott states that pass the restriction law, yet this law will allow me to walk into a women's restroom at a movie theatre and go right up to the sink and start using it and looking around. I don't have to be dressed as a woman; when I'm caught by the usher doing it I say, "I recently began the transition to being a woman; I have a legal right to be in here!!" Seems a harsh penalty to states that want to keep me in this scenario in the men's room. p.s. No offense to the transgendered, really, but do any of you blame me for not walking in the Subway restaurant when I was in my car and saw the man wearing women's high heels and miniskirt walking in? He would have been in line ahead of me and eating there and sorry, I'm human, he grossed me out.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 5, 2016 -> 04:47 PM) That's exactly what I told a coworker of mine. The girl I was just dating, didn't follow sports at all. Had never even SEEN a hockey game, even on TV. This new girl is baseball crazed, and even though she sends me snaps of the Cubs game and teases me, she also watches the Sox games and teases me about them and wants to go to Sox games with me. That's a lot more fun, even if it means playful teasing. Chili, you can't ever wear anything Cub related. That would be too sickening. Accept a Cubs pencil from her or something though. The flowing dark locks may be it though. No offense to the bald(ing) guys on here, but girls will admit they like flowing hair like Chili apparently has.

John Danks Appreciation Thread
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) I think it's also harder going from charter flights and playing in the show to taking the bus in Charlotte and playing in podunk towns when you got 50M in the bank. He probably realizes that he is cooked as well- I don't think he's having serious pain. I was at the blackout game and remember him hitting 94-95 on the gun that chilly night- a different pitcher back then for sure. It was easily one of the most clutch performances in White Sox history- further accentuated by the fact that the Twins owned us the entire decade during the 2000's. During that decade you could easily argue there wasn't a critical game they lost to us with the exception of the blackout game- and that was because of Johnny Danks. Excellent post. This is why I get mad when some people brutalized him in the game threads, etc., calling him a bum, mocking him, calling him names. If you have a history like he had, winning a game THAT important, you should owe him a minor debt of gratitude forever as a fan. You don't have to praise him all the time like me, but at least not crucify him with words, so to speak. To be nice, yes nice when speaking of him. Some of the things I read this season and last bout him were brutal. I won't ever rip Britt Burns, for instance, for what he did in that playoff game vs. Baltimore, the one Dybber blew. He pitched a shutout for 9 innings and Sox had LaMarr Hoyt ready to go in Game Five to win the series. They just couldn't get a run in Game Four.

From The 108 - A New Blog
I just read through the blog(s). Great great stuff. Especially telling people not to complain to the workers at the park or you will say something. You said Evelyn and some other lady who served the Italian beef were great. Love that kinda stuff. Where can you buy from them? Upper deck or lower?

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Probably Sonny Gray of the A's. Not sure many teams have the bullets left remaining in their farm system to get it done, KC/CHW/DET don't, and the Indians just haven't made those type of blockbuster trades going the other direction (as opposed to teardowns/rebuilds). Cueto was pretty terrible for KC last year in the regular season, but had a couple of very good post-season performances to somewhat redeem himself... As far as ruling teams out at this point of the season, the only team we can be pretty sure won't be there in the end is the Twins. Other than that, all four AL Central teams can win it or make the wildcard IMO. The Tigers, Royals and Indians are all within one game of each other. As far as offense goes, yes, you're right.....Infante, Perez or Escobar would have to pick up some of the slack from last season, and/or they're going to have to make one last run at it this trade deadline and start trading off pieces into the offseason if Dayton Moore is convinced he doesn't have a path to competing in 2017. It will be an interesting choice to let go, since that means rebuilding again for at least 3 years, if not more. If they go firesale, they can trade Cain, Hosmer, Moustakas, Volquez, Medlen, Duffy, Wade Davis, Soria (maybe, his value's down right now)....and keep Gordon, Perez, Ventura, Herrera and Kennedy as their core going forward, along with the likes of Zimmer, Mondesi Jr and Starling. My hunch is that Moore & Co. won't be making any of those trades until next July at the earliest...unless the wheels just completely fall off the wagon this year (not impossible, but also unlikely with how much parity there is in the AL Central, with all four teams having majors flaws that could be addressed via the trade route). Excellent post again as u are on a roll, except I take great exception to the Cueto comment. He had several ace like starts during the regular season last year, too, mostly all home games though. I don't think anybody will "fear" KC this year unless Hosmer just goes nuts this summer, which he could.

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2016 -> 07:38 AM) Medlen got hit around in that first inning, but there were three errors on Moustakas (tough in-between hop he got caught on), Infante (the worst one) and Dyson lost a ball in the corner for an extra base... He's been so-so. His last start, he took the loss after having a no-hitter through five and then giving up a bomb right away in the 6th, think they lost that one 1-0 if I remember correctly. At any rate, the real problems with the Royals are offensively (Cain and Morales), different parts of the bullpen have been getting hit around (except for the one constant in Davis) and then Chris Young has been their version of John Danks, although he's pitched better of late. Kennedy has been better than expected (compared to, say, Leake, around the same price range)...and Medlen a bit flat/disappointing but not terrible or where they're looking at putting Duffy back into the rotation or adding Dillon Gee/Chien Min-Wang to the rotation). This ain't the Royals year, Caufield. Now there could be residual effects from reaching the WS two years in a row and winning it last year, effects that keep them a few games over .500, but quite frankly their pitching staff blows. They went cheap and now don't have an ace. They need a Shieds/Cueto type of guy to lead the way and Ventura will not be that guy. He's not good enough. Then the lineup? If Morales is human this year and Gordon keeps hitting just OK, and 2B remains a problem, they could be in trouble. It's going to take Hosmer raking all summer like a Harper or Mike Trout and Cain or Moustakas to go nuts for them to win it again. That is possible I suppose. The bats "could" definitely come alive, but If I were KC I'd immediately get Duffy in the starting rotation and start planning on acquiring a Cueto type guy at the break, whomever this year's Cueto is.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 5, 2016 -> 04:21 AM) No. I actually ended up dating the 18 year old for like 6 weeks. It didn't work out because she was worried about my intent to move to AZ at some point, and her interest to move to Indy. She didn't want to get too deep and get hurt. She said she got nervous about how much she was starting to like me, so just ended it. And it definitely ended cold. Not badly, but she just suddenly said she was done. And then about a week later she said she misses me and thinks she made the wrong choice about wanting to break up. But i haven't taken her back yet. I want to see what this new girl (and another couple I have on the line) have to offer first. And no, we never even had sex. I wasn't in it just to tag some ripe 18 year old. And yes, this new girl is older. lol. She's 22. Chili, you must be a Ken doll stud. You got women all over the place. What's your secret? Flowing black hair; bodybuilder type? You seem to have a ton of women to choose from all the time.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 5, 2016 -> 03:22 AM) Ironic you have this strong of opinions on Hillary, especially recently, when you yourself admitted you haven't heard an actual word come out of her mouth in months. My disdain is from the email thing, and the stuff written about how mean she is to the little people, and the fact she's lied about so much stuff in the past. If she's changed completely in the past 2 months and reinvented herself and become lovable, my bad.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) Did you even bother reading anything Lostfan wrote? Of course. He just said what all the experts say when they don't want to discuss this ... Hillary is storming toward the nomination, can't be slowed down no matter what. He won't discuss what I want to discuss and want the talking heads on TV to discuss. Like Bernie says, the superdelegates had made up their minds long ago to go for Hillary. His campaign, which could have a ton of momentum if the media didn't scoff at him and continue paying homage to Hillary, could reasonably sway the superdelegates to switch to Bernie. Bernie makes some good points about stuff like that and adds that if the superdelegates switch we could have the biggest upset in the history of politics. The media USUALLY likes a good underdog story ... not here, lol. I just don't understand why the media refused to allow Bernie fever to catch on. You have to admit, only thing he's missing is media credibility and that won't come. For the life of me I can't understand it. None of you will comment on what I'm saying. You are just doing what they do on TV. Half listen to what a person like me says then scream above the fray, "IT DOESN"T MATTER; HILLARY IS WINNING THE NOMINATION SOON; NONE OF THAT MATTERS." p.s. I did read something the other day, I wish I remember where, that was bemoaning the lousy candidates. It simply called Hillary "a foul mouthed granny with no new ideas." I laughed at that one.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 5, 2016 -> 02:51 AM) Going on a first date to the Sox game tomorrow. It was HER idea, and she's a HUGE Cubs fan. We are going to the mall beforehand because she wants to buy a Sox shirt. Is it ok that I'm already in love? Cool, Chili. Keep us posted on everything. Are you meeting her or having to go to her house to pick her up with daddy possibly greeting you with a mean look cause of the age thing?

That was a lousy game. Throw that one out and win tomorrow. Rodon is 1-5? That's a lot of decisions already. Fairly high ERA as well.

SoxNet: Jason Benetti Interview
Great job on the interview. Thank you. If Jason reads the threads, which he might being a pretty young guy ... I think you are doing a nice job, sir. You and Stoney have a good to great rapport and I enjoy the change of pace. That said, Hawk rocks as well. Go Sox!

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2016 -> 11:32 PM) It was Kids' Day. Someone said it looked like 9000 buses in the parking lot...so not sure how many of those seats were comped or discounted, but it was a huge attendance turnout, as you mentioned. Even those types of events, if the White Sox gave the tickets away to local schools in their neighborhood and the south/southwestern area of the city....they might fill up some random sections of the upper deck but it wouldn't just be a massive wave of kids like you get when you're in two World Series in a row and won one. That brings about excitement from the parents and teachers/administrators as much as the students themselves to "not miss out" on the opportunity to skip a school day and participate in something cool. Winning is COOL. And being associated with that even from a detached fan standpoint is COOL to young kids. And, in KC, the fans really do feel as if they've become part of the team in a sense, a not inconsiderable home field advantage in tight games. One of the biggest gripes about White Sox games is "it's not a destination location in terms of fun/eating/drinking/entertainment." Well, the two huge parking lots at Kauffman/Arrowhead are the complete opposite of Wrigleyville...it's sterile and antiseptic and suburban and all concrete, but it's somehow become cool again to even tailgate and "pre-party" for Royals games. It used to be just the Chiefs for 8-10 home games per year, or a little bit on weekends for Royals or Wizards/KC football club games, but now it's something EVERYONE wants to be associated with and tailgating has become a "new baseball tradition" there because of the attendance surge. You speak the truth.

Don't attack me; I'm only being half serious. But everybody says we need lefty reliever(s). Ask Danks to go to Charlotte for a week and a half to get used to being a reliever?? He has experience and a decent resume when healthy.
