From The 108 - A New Blog
I just read through the blog(s). Great great stuff. Especially telling people not to complain to the workers at the park or you will say something. You said Evelyn and some other lady who served the Italian beef were great. Love that kinda stuff. Where can you buy from them? Upper deck or lower?

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Probably Sonny Gray of the A's. Not sure many teams have the bullets left remaining in their farm system to get it done, KC/CHW/DET don't, and the Indians just haven't made those type of blockbuster trades going the other direction (as opposed to teardowns/rebuilds). Cueto was pretty terrible for KC last year in the regular season, but had a couple of very good post-season performances to somewhat redeem himself... As far as ruling teams out at this point of the season, the only team we can be pretty sure won't be there in the end is the Twins. Other than that, all four AL Central teams can win it or make the wildcard IMO. The Tigers, Royals and Indians are all within one game of each other. As far as offense goes, yes, you're right.....Infante, Perez or Escobar would have to pick up some of the slack from last season, and/or they're going to have to make one last run at it this trade deadline and start trading off pieces into the offseason if Dayton Moore is convinced he doesn't have a path to competing in 2017. It will be an interesting choice to let go, since that means rebuilding again for at least 3 years, if not more. If they go firesale, they can trade Cain, Hosmer, Moustakas, Volquez, Medlen, Duffy, Wade Davis, Soria (maybe, his value's down right now)....and keep Gordon, Perez, Ventura, Herrera and Kennedy as their core going forward, along with the likes of Zimmer, Mondesi Jr and Starling. My hunch is that Moore & Co. won't be making any of those trades until next July at the earliest...unless the wheels just completely fall off the wagon this year (not impossible, but also unlikely with how much parity there is in the AL Central, with all four teams having majors flaws that could be addressed via the trade route). Excellent post again as u are on a roll, except I take great exception to the Cueto comment. He had several ace like starts during the regular season last year, too, mostly all home games though. I don't think anybody will "fear" KC this year unless Hosmer just goes nuts this summer, which he could.

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2016 -> 07:38 AM) Medlen got hit around in that first inning, but there were three errors on Moustakas (tough in-between hop he got caught on), Infante (the worst one) and Dyson lost a ball in the corner for an extra base... He's been so-so. His last start, he took the loss after having a no-hitter through five and then giving up a bomb right away in the 6th, think they lost that one 1-0 if I remember correctly. At any rate, the real problems with the Royals are offensively (Cain and Morales), different parts of the bullpen have been getting hit around (except for the one constant in Davis) and then Chris Young has been their version of John Danks, although he's pitched better of late. Kennedy has been better than expected (compared to, say, Leake, around the same price range)...and Medlen a bit flat/disappointing but not terrible or where they're looking at putting Duffy back into the rotation or adding Dillon Gee/Chien Min-Wang to the rotation). This ain't the Royals year, Caufield. Now there could be residual effects from reaching the WS two years in a row and winning it last year, effects that keep them a few games over .500, but quite frankly their pitching staff blows. They went cheap and now don't have an ace. They need a Shieds/Cueto type of guy to lead the way and Ventura will not be that guy. He's not good enough. Then the lineup? If Morales is human this year and Gordon keeps hitting just OK, and 2B remains a problem, they could be in trouble. It's going to take Hosmer raking all summer like a Harper or Mike Trout and Cain or Moustakas to go nuts for them to win it again. That is possible I suppose. The bats "could" definitely come alive, but If I were KC I'd immediately get Duffy in the starting rotation and start planning on acquiring a Cueto type guy at the break, whomever this year's Cueto is.

Relationship Advice Thread
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 5, 2016 -> 04:21 AM) No. I actually ended up dating the 18 year old for like 6 weeks. It didn't work out because she was worried about my intent to move to AZ at some point, and her interest to move to Indy. She didn't want to get too deep and get hurt. She said she got nervous about how much she was starting to like me, so just ended it. And it definitely ended cold. Not badly, but she just suddenly said she was done. And then about a week later she said she misses me and thinks she made the wrong choice about wanting to break up. But i haven't taken her back yet. I want to see what this new girl (and another couple I have on the line) have to offer first. And no, we never even had sex. I wasn't in it just to tag some ripe 18 year old. And yes, this new girl is older. lol. She's 22. Chili, you must be a Ken doll stud. You got women all over the place. What's your secret? Flowing black hair; bodybuilder type? You seem to have a ton of women to choose from all the time.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 5, 2016 -> 03:22 AM) Ironic you have this strong of opinions on Hillary, especially recently, when you yourself admitted you haven't heard an actual word come out of her mouth in months. My disdain is from the email thing, and the stuff written about how mean she is to the little people, and the fact she's lied about so much stuff in the past. If she's changed completely in the past 2 months and reinvented herself and become lovable, my bad.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) Did you even bother reading anything Lostfan wrote? Of course. He just said what all the experts say when they don't want to discuss this ... Hillary is storming toward the nomination, can't be slowed down no matter what. He won't discuss what I want to discuss and want the talking heads on TV to discuss. Like Bernie says, the superdelegates had made up their minds long ago to go for Hillary. His campaign, which could have a ton of momentum if the media didn't scoff at him and continue paying homage to Hillary, could reasonably sway the superdelegates to switch to Bernie. Bernie makes some good points about stuff like that and adds that if the superdelegates switch we could have the biggest upset in the history of politics. The media USUALLY likes a good underdog story ... not here, lol. I just don't understand why the media refused to allow Bernie fever to catch on. You have to admit, only thing he's missing is media credibility and that won't come. For the life of me I can't understand it. None of you will comment on what I'm saying. You are just doing what they do on TV. Half listen to what a person like me says then scream above the fray, "IT DOESN"T MATTER; HILLARY IS WINNING THE NOMINATION SOON; NONE OF THAT MATTERS." p.s. I did read something the other day, I wish I remember where, that was bemoaning the lousy candidates. It simply called Hillary "a foul mouthed granny with no new ideas." I laughed at that one.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 5, 2016 -> 02:51 AM) Going on a first date to the Sox game tomorrow. It was HER idea, and she's a HUGE Cubs fan. We are going to the mall beforehand because she wants to buy a Sox shirt. Is it ok that I'm already in love? Cool, Chili. Keep us posted on everything. Are you meeting her or having to go to her house to pick her up with daddy possibly greeting you with a mean look cause of the age thing?

That was a lousy game. Throw that one out and win tomorrow. Rodon is 1-5? That's a lot of decisions already. Fairly high ERA as well.

SoxNet: Jason Benetti Interview
Great job on the interview. Thank you. If Jason reads the threads, which he might being a pretty young guy ... I think you are doing a nice job, sir. You and Stoney have a good to great rapport and I enjoy the change of pace. That said, Hawk rocks as well. Go Sox!

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2016 -> 11:32 PM) It was Kids' Day. Someone said it looked like 9000 buses in the parking lot...so not sure how many of those seats were comped or discounted, but it was a huge attendance turnout, as you mentioned. Even those types of events, if the White Sox gave the tickets away to local schools in their neighborhood and the south/southwestern area of the city....they might fill up some random sections of the upper deck but it wouldn't just be a massive wave of kids like you get when you're in two World Series in a row and won one. That brings about excitement from the parents and teachers/administrators as much as the students themselves to "not miss out" on the opportunity to skip a school day and participate in something cool. Winning is COOL. And being associated with that even from a detached fan standpoint is COOL to young kids. And, in KC, the fans really do feel as if they've become part of the team in a sense, a not inconsiderable home field advantage in tight games. One of the biggest gripes about White Sox games is "it's not a destination location in terms of fun/eating/drinking/entertainment." Well, the two huge parking lots at Kauffman/Arrowhead are the complete opposite of Wrigleyville...it's sterile and antiseptic and suburban and all concrete, but it's somehow become cool again to even tailgate and "pre-party" for Royals games. It used to be just the Chiefs for 8-10 home games per year, or a little bit on weekends for Royals or Wizards/KC football club games, but now it's something EVERYONE wants to be associated with and tailgating has become a "new baseball tradition" there because of the attendance surge. You speak the truth.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ May 5, 2016 -> 03:14 AM) Benetti sucks. I actually enjoyed listening to Hawk's uber emotional, often angry broadcasts for the two decades that I've watched Sox baseball. Benetti's discussion of DRS and other advanced stats that I can just as easily read about is boring to me. I just find myself tuning out all of the noise. Also, Rodon seems very average thus far. Not exciting at all. I'm stoked to see the Sox in Arlington next week, but I hope that my calculation that he's on the mound is wrong. Especially with Danks gone. I think Bennetti is OK. I worship Hawk but give Bennetti a chance. He is not annoying me at all. And because Stoney doesn't have to worry about Hawk being in a bad mood, the two work together very well IMO. p.s. Three hits won't cut it in a home game.

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:01 PM) Part of it goes along with that argument from Cubs fans that no matter whether the White Sox teams are better, they're drawing more attendance (which of course is 40% a component of regional tourism and the historic nature of the stadium, day baseball, Harry Caray, babes in bikinis, yuppies on mobile phones, etc.) So there's that "White Sox fans are more blue collar argument" as well (according to ESPN's Greenberg, there's a split of about 5% more fans attending Cubs games possessing college degrees compared to the Sox), and then there's the prevailing stereotypes about the relative "danger-ness" of the area around USCF, which mostly goes back to the 70's and 1980's. Greg talks about this a lot, for example. Part of it is/was frustration with the original botched design and implementation of the new stadium plan compared to the other new stadiums like Camden Yards that arrived soon thereafter, as well as the complaints about the slant or rake of the upper deck. White Sox fans, over time, have gotten an "inferiority complex" about hearing these same arguments over and over again...and that's one of the reasons the threads are so polarizing, because the arguments are so predictable (and frustrating). Now you have the typical response that "well, stadium attendance is only 15-25% of typical revenue stream now for an MLB team, compared to the 40-60% it comprised in the past." And yet invariably, the local and national baseball media will note the low/er attendance in their game stories about Chicago and this will frustrate fans who ONLY want to focus on the positive start after three years of wandering blindly in the desert. No matter how many times fans write threads about how "family friendly" the stadium is, how much better the experience is (especially on Sundays), how "much more affordable tickets and how many great deals/discounts are currently available," there's that casual fan who felt burned maybe by their experiences from 2007-2009 (much higher prices after the World Series) and then just became apathetic in general because of no playoffs since 2008 and terrible, painful to watch teams from 2013-2015...which nobody wants to talk about or relive either, not when the White Sox have the 2nd best record in baseball and you can legitimately speculate about the Cubs and White Sox in the World Series again for the first time in nearly a decade. Basically the White Sox have some disadvantages, but now I think it all boils down to winning. Not many people are going to drive to 35th and Shields, not exactly a tourist destination or a fun destination, to pay 20-30 bucks to park and watch a baseball game. However, if you win win win, they will come. I've changed my mind on that cause of the Royals. They had 35,000 for a Wednesday day game today after 32000 last night. Five or six years ago they would have had 8,000 to 15,000 last night and today. I never thought I'd see it, but right now, KC basically sells out every game cause of last season and the season before. If you win, people will pay anything, do anything, go anywhere. Whether that means the fans will catch the winning fever in June and start packing the Cell or wait til next year after the WS victory remains to be seen. And virtually every fan who goes to Royals games has some sort of Royals attire. Hat, jacket if it's cold, T shirt, jersey.

Favorite High School Graduation Moments
QUOTE (Tex @ May 4, 2016 -> 05:24 PM) My AP students needed to be at school about an hour and a half early to take the AP test today. The other AP teacher and I hosted a tailgate party with breakfast in a quiet corner of your parking lot. It was pretty cool. Sounds amazing. I'm surprised in this day and age of PC you were allowed to do that though. What if the breakfast gave one of them an upset stomach before the test? What if one of the parents disapproved of their kid eating bacon? What if one parent is against juice? Didn't you have to document everything you talked about with the kids to make sure it was documented and deemed appropriate? On and on. Cool gesture by you though. Nice of you two to do that for the kids.

Favorite High School Graduation Moments
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) As we are getting near the end of the school year I am trying to think of some things to do for my graduating seniors. What have teachers done that you remember? Any suggestions? I remember thinking it was very cool that a few teachers did more than sign their name to my yearbook. They put a comment or actually a specific memory of me from class. Years later when I read it I got a kick out of that.

QUOTE (shysocks @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:45 PM) Remember like three weeks ago how you said you were ignoring everything about the election and you were a happier person and we didn't have to scroll past another Hillary rant? What happened to that? I made the mistake of reading some articles and deciding to turn on the TV finally the night after Bernie won another primary to see if it was safe to turn on the TV that night. The msnbc panel pulled the same ol, why are we even talking about Indiana, Hillary is storming to the nomination crap, and after 15 minutes I got mad and turned it off again seeing ol Bernie can't get a fair shake. I have stuck to my guns and not listened to a word of anything coming out of Hillary's mouth, turning the radio dial if there was danger of hearing her voice. But like I said I turned on the TV for the first time in a month and paid the price last night. My anger was fueled so I made a few posts last night and today. If they'd talk about her emails more and the odds of her being put on trial, it might be safe for me to watch TV again. But those topics are no/nos on television.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) People have been pissing and s***ting in public restrooms (with or without transgendered people doing the same) their entire lives without needing help and suddenly in 2016 some people decided everyone needed a set of rules on how to do it. Then why the hell have we had MEN and WOMEN bathrooms forever? Why did we ever distinguish between the two?? Shouldn't we always have had just simple bathrooms for one sex? How come for years upon years we've distinguished between the two sexes for bathrooms? Last time I looked I look for the men's sign in a restaurant and sure enough one says Men the other Women.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) What if a gay woman wants to leer at your daughters? How often are you even looking at another person's junk in public locker rooms or bathrooms? My problem with social issues is nobody famous on TV or anywhere -- or nobody not famous yet wants to keep his/her job -- can discuss them because if they are against the minority in question they are done, finished, thrust out of society forever. Message boards are different, so let me give this argument against transgenders being allowed to go in the bathroom of the sex they IDENTIFY with. In the case of trangenders. Here is the reality that nobody can even discuss this lest they be burned at the stake of public opinion. We can't even have a discussion out loud. If you don't agree with the transgenders on this you are seen as SCUM. Yet I ask you to picture a transgender woman (yet a person who still has his male genetalia; he merely identifies as being a woman). Have you seen some of these people (ones who don't have the time to be made up like Kaitlyn Jenner)? I have. I had to leave the Subway restauarant line I was in (God have mercy on me but yes I was GROSSED OUT by some guy in high heels who could barely walk in the heels; was very sickening sight pretending to be a woman). So let's say the woman (transgender) I describe is at a school function and can go in the women's restroom with women and children? Now this person may be the nicest person in the world, but he should be allowed to parade in the women's bathroom with his male parts??? What if it's a restroom somewhere else, in a park with few people using that restroom? That wouldn't be scary for a woman with woman parts?? Again ... a person can put on heels and a dress and identify with being a woman, but guess what, he's got a dick and is a man still. As a parent do you want your kid in the bathroom with this transgender?? Since this transgender identifies as a WOMAN by gosh, of course she can go in the women's rest room. If you say otherwise we will boycott your state. If you want to discuss it you are an intolerant bastard! I say let's deal in reality ... you come with me to the Subway and see this woman and you tell me you are ready to let her be around your kids in a bathroom. HORROR OF HORRORS ... Greg is such an asshole, such an intolerant, he should be forced to leave our country for even questioning this. There's no way that transgender is thinking anything but about the stall and going to the bathroom. She has no sexual motives! The problem is not everybody is Kaitlyn Jenner in the transgender world. They don't have 15 hours to get made up and look like a barbie doll. this is real life. The reality is somebody who looks like a man will be allowed to parade into women's rest rooms.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 4, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Bernie made it farther than a lot of people thought he would, but he doesn't get a participation trophy. He is losing, fair and square, and the main reason has been his campaign strategy. Fair and square? Let's see. Bernie keeps winning states, gets the most voter support, truly excites the voters and ... gets no mo jo from the victories cause of the media who worship Hillary and the superdelagates. Not fair and square. Bernie has made it a race and nobody gives him any credit. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) Bernie Sanders is a walking moral victory. Uh more than a moral victory til you turn on the TV. He wins states. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 4, 2016 -> 07:42 PM) If you ignore the fact that Bernie now needs to win a HIGHER percentage in the remaining contests now than he did before Indiana, then yeah sure I guess it kept him alive. Reality though, tells a different story, and that story is that he didn't win by ENOUGH to actually keep him alive. After Indiana, he now needs to win about 65% of remaining delegates. This is more impossible than it was before Indiana. Indiana was a net win for Hillary. In reality. We know. We watch TV and they tell us Hillary really won ... when the vote total percentages say she lost (and the polls). Nice job of the polls to be WRONG again in Indiana. It's all a set up, folks. It's fixed like Trump says.

John Danks Appreciation Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2016 -> 05:10 AM) He wouldn't even survive in the NL at this point sadly. His one hope is reinventing himself as a pitcher, possibly learning a knuckle ball. I don't know. Kinda wish he would have gone to Charlotte to work on things. Yeah, if he has no severe arm pain it's puzzling he wouldn't go to Charlotte. Even Danks must know this couldn't continue. In fact, the Sox front office may have saved him from a severe booing if Boston lit him up. Why not Charlotte Johnny? If he has a lot of arm pain/discomfort then I understand it.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2016 -> 05:31 AM) Yeah, he has been given the short end from national television media. However, legacy media isn't the only hat in the ring. He gets more than enough love from new media and social media. But he's still losing. He's impressive, but he's still losing and barring an unexpected upset in California, where he currently lags behind Hillary by 10 points, he's dead in the water. Thank you. At least you commented on my observations nicely. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 4, 2016 -> 05:48 AM) The Democratic primary (and for that matter the Republicans too) hasn't had any suspense for weeks if you A) know what to look for (pledged delegate leads and how delegates are counted) B) are not in denial We know it's had no suspense. That's what I've been lamenting. There SHOULD be some suspense. The super delegate thing is sad. But even sadder is Bernie getting no credit. He had momentum at some points, but the media would not allow him to ride that momentum at all with guys like Geraldo merely screaming, "HE HAS NO CHANCE. LET'S MOVE ON AND TALK ABOUT TRUMP and CRUZ for goshsakes!" update: I'm watching tonight's replay commentary. One pundit wouldn't even say Bernie's name, saying he and him. The first analyst was asked about tonight's result in Indiana and she said, "Hillary Clinton is storming toward the nomination. Nothing is changed." LOL. Sickening. The pundits basically say "he's a socialist nut, nothing to see here." Meanwhile win after win after win with more on the way? West Virginia? Nebraska? Had to turn off msnbc coverage .... again. Pundits laughing at Bernie and Trump, proclaiming Hillary the winner. Mentioning Trump offending all voter groups, can't win over Hillary, blah blah, refusing to ever mention Hillary's flaws. And this is on a night Hillary lost another primary. Still nothing but love. ANYBODY HAVE A CHANNEL to recommend to greg to watch? A channel that does not worship Hillary?? Is there one?
