If he died Wednesday, the funeral will probably be Monday or Tuesday. I hope he doesn't think of coming back until Wednesday at the earliest. To lose one's dad is horrific and I'm just assuming they were very close. Rest in peace. Don't even think about baseball for a week.

The Royals look human. Still not a lot of power in that lineup. Starting rotation is going without a true ace at this time. Soria is a weak link in the bullpen. I'm not saying we'll beat them. I am thinking we should be able to hang in there and not have them run away with the division. We shall see but our rotation compared to theirs, I don't see any reason we shouldn't go .500 vs. KC this year. It will be sad if it's something like 13-6 KC over Sox again.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) Such a devastating situation. He should go away forever. Yes he needs to go away. These cases sicken me. Meghan McCain said it best tonight ... he's disgusting.

Are the Veep's always chosen before the convention? I forget. At any rate, Carly is very very very unlikeable. At least to me. Cruz needs to go away. He's had a lot of chances and can't even provide serious competition to ... Donald Trump?? Then this choice of Carly? Ugh. At least Donald vs. Hillary will be very fun theatre. I mean Donald actually did it. I heard the tape of him today accusing Hillary of playing the woman card. He actually said, "And women don't like her." He's certifiably nuts, but it's gonna be fun.

Nice to see Q win again. What a month of April. Almost perfect, really. You can't expect a much better performance out of the gate than this. Glad the Sox won 3 of 4 to open in warm Oakland. They haven't looked back. Keep it up. Like my friend said, the Robin haters have shut their mouths. This team is amazing.
-
Cruz has lost his mind. Why Carly? Pick a woman who is in Congress for gosh sakes.

In response to my Cruz question, I said I liked the flat tax but haven't really studied the guy yet. How come people say he'd actually have a chance against Hillary whereas Trump will get annihilated? I wasn't meaning to imply Christians are being persecuted. I don't know why everybody says we are bossy and try to implement our faith on others. I NEVER talk about going to church (except on here lol) and praying and all that stuff. I don't even try to get my siblings to return to their faith etc. I keep it to myself.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 02:35 AM) Yep We'll have to look them in the face and beat them down. Or if we're still in first place, just go .500 against them or 6-4 would be nice. Royals seem to be winning out of habit. I'm not crazy about their team. Let's see if they have the magic again this season or if that starting rotation just plain kills them as the season marches on.

This is too amazing for words. Sox have been consistently good to great so far this season. Several folks have already said it, but this is what it's like when we truly have the best pitcher in baseball. Sale has taken that additional step to where he's not gonna have a bad night like he occasionally had in the past (knock on wood and all that stuff; there is no such thing as a jinx people). 15 hits and even Avi busts loose, perhaps feeling the heat from Robin implying he'd be sent down. One month doesn't mean anything obviously, but I still say we could beat the Cubs in the World Series if this continues and our rotation stays sharp and healthy. Sale, Q, Latos and Rodon could be the foursome to do it especially since we have a good closer and set up man in Albers. Even the guys I started to dislike are doing OK to good. Rollins is hitting .262 and Navarro did well tonight. And Austin Jackson with the three hits. Way to kick some Blue Jay ass White Sox. Keep it up, but congrats on a fine April so far. Even our manager has matured. He's doing a fine job. I had a chicago friend call me today and he said, all that crap about Robin? You don't hear any of that any more.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 06:20 AM) Cruz? You've gotta be s***tin' me greg. If you're jonesing for christian extremism, he's your guy. That's just stupid in a country that has a pretty diverse portfolio of people. Some christians would love that but it would do nothing but cause complete and utter chaos in the country. What about the flat tax? I kinda like it. In this day and age of people getting so mad at believers, it is hard to believe he could emerge as the candidate. I mean I am a true believer and actually am a practicing Catholic, but as a nation I sense people get very mad when they find out you are a believer. People around here don't like hearing a word about God, that is for sure. You can't bring up religion or you better duck (except with your fellow parishioners of course). I was just wondering if there was anything about Cruz I could rally around since it appears he may beat out Trump and I despise Hillary as much as I do.

QUOTE (asindc @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 01:14 AM) Minneapolis Star Tribune rates Prince's albums: http://www.startribune.com/critical-...ums/376785321/ The Tribune has had great coverage of Prince the last week. BTW am I out of line saying Purple Rain is one of the greatest 100 songs of all time in the rock genre or whatever u want to call it?

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 12:37 AM) I would enjoy listening to Benetti a lot more if he stopped asking so many stupid questions to Stone. He's done a good job outside of the kissing up to Stone, which is the same thing we saw with Swirsky. Great point, fathom. I've noticed the questions too and thought of Swirsky. But I think Benetti has to do some sucking up, so to speak, as he begins this venture at least. Show Stoney he's a lover not a hater. But I wonder when Stoney will get tired of saying ... "Because, when the count is full, blah blah." "Because ...." I notice cause stoney pronounces because funny and he's always answering questions of Benetti.

Admittedly I've been reading a lot more about Prince's death than the primaries. So tell me Republicans, is there any hope with this Cruz guy? Any reason I should be getting excited? I do like the idea of a flat tax finally. f*** the IRS and that bulls*** formula. Anybody who reads my threads know I despise Hillary. I'm not a big fan of Trump mainly because he's a f***ing idiot. How bout tonight's line about how good looking he is? I know it's a joke, but still ... Donald you are rich so you can say and do whatever you want, but you are not good looking. Your hair looks like Chicago legend Bozo's quite frankly. And Bernie's OK, but he aint winning anything anytime soon. So tell me, can we handle a Cruz presidency?? Is he somebody Greg could get to like??

That was a nice win. Frazier baby! Why didn't Hawk make the road trip? Is he skipping some of the annoying trips like Toronto?

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 04:34 AM) Sox may be 14-6, but they got outdrawn by Cleveland last week, and attendance is down 13%, so no reason to be happy. Just ask Caulfield. It is nice how little he posts when things are going well. All he had was the attendance card. I haven't posted a lot lately, but don't mistake it for me not loving what's going on. I'm just loving how the team has performed so far this April. I think Robin is emerging as a force. Do you realize if the Sox make the playoffs, he's going to be this team's manager for a long long time? I'm still trying to figure out how the Sox are doing this? Personally I think the starting pitching is "that" much better this year. Sale and Q are taking the next step and don't discount Latos. The 4-0 record is huge. And Rodon is showing signs of very-good-ness. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:57 PM) The world is SO different now than it was decades ago! You REALLY want them to stick to all their views they held in 1992? Have YOU stuck to every single opinion you held when you were thirty years younger than you are now? come on dude you're really grasping here... Her track record suggest a person who CANNOT be trusted. I think that's pretty obvious. Only justification to vote for her IMO is if you think she's the best of this horrible lot of candidates. Her views can change, sure. But she changes policy and yes, lies, with the best of the politicians. She's very lucky IMO she's skating on this email thing. It's kind of like North Carolina and the basketball scandal. Everybody knows they are guilty, but we also know they aren't going to be punished. Just the way it is.

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) Sone and Hawk both has large egos, and I'm pleasantly surprised that both have co-existed peacefully in the booth for as long as they have. Exactly. Stone and Hawk have great days and mediocre ones, I'd never say "bad days." The only times I don't like Hawk are when Stone says something and Hawk appears to be in a bad mood or know it all mood and says, "obviously." Or "that's obvious." Stone's just trying to help fill time, Hawk. As long as Hawk isn't losing his eyesight (he was pretty bad on a couple homers on the first road trip) I like him with Stone. The new guy is OK so far. His voice doesn't annoy me, at least not yet, like some of the MLB announcers.

Hawk is great except the days he gets crabby and treats Stone like he's some rookie. Hawk forever! I would think Hawk will be on his A game more this year cause he has half the workload.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) He is the most talented overall musician I've seen live in the last 40 years. At one of the shows he played every instrument during different songs and had majors solos on each one. He was incredible. That video is one of my favorites and the one that most "non-Prince" fans find. RIP. Amen. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Twitter is intolerable after someone famous dies. So many people going overboard with praise. ??? Geez. Human beings bleed. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Before I had heart surgery a few years ago, me and my friends went downtown to hang out before I left for the operation. This was when I lived on Taylor and went to UIC. It was a group of like 15 and we went to Little Joe's for their karaoke night and everyone is having a good time. While I was getting a drink, my friend taps me on the shoulder and ask if it's cool if one of his friends from home can come out and I said sure. I expected it to be one of his guy friends but in walks his friend Hannah, who everyone knew I had a huge thing for, including her. While I'm far from being a social butterfly and not very sociable, I have no problem engaging with people but whenever I was around Hannah, I couldn't even open my mouth and when I did, I would say something that usually made no sense, before running away. I get my drink, get far away and wait my turn for the microphone. I guessed she noticed that I was avoiding her and she comes up and tells me that she heard about the operation and we strike up a conversation. I told her that I'm going to do a song and she says that she wants to sign up. She gives me her drink to to hold and tells the DJ what song she wants to do. It's my turn and I do Prince's Kiss. I see she's up next, so I give her the microphone and she looks at me funny. Her music starts playing and it's Little Red Corvette. Our conversation wasn't going anywhere before that but after that coincidence, me and her talked the whole night and exchanged numbers. We talked nonstop and about a month later she asked me out and we've been together since. So I guess I have Prince to thank for that. Prince was my one of my first concerts. He played during my first dance at wedding. And my mom and sisters, who are all lifelong dancers would take out a record player, throw on some Prince and dance through our house. I was even Prince for Halloween last year. Needless to say, I was pretty devastated by the news of Prince's death. Him and his music have always been a constant in my life. RIP Your Badness. What a story! Prince truly is the reason you had the connection with your wife. You may not have ever struck up a good conversation, who knows? Thank u for the story. I feel sad about Prince today for some reason. Good music just seems to be part of what life is all about - how human beings are able to create such cool stuff can be uplifting. RIP Prince.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 04:28 AM) so much for the flu Prince Treated for Drug Overdose Days Before Death http://www.tmz.com/2016/04/21/prince-treat...-overdose-dead/ I read an article that seemed legit and said he had a bad hip and bad ankle pain as well and after the concert in Atlanta ODed on painkillers. The fact his current tour was him sitting at a piano and exhibiting his piano skills and not standing much would lend credence to the pain thing, also that he had a glittery cane when he walked on stage. Sad he didn't just go for hip replacement surgery or something. Check out Prince's performance of Let's Go Crazy done impromptu at SNL's 40th anniversary party. it's all over the web today. So cool. I've "enjoyed" watching some performances of Prince and watching some interviews from the past in respect. Purple Rain has got to be one of the best 10 songs of all time and the way he was able to add some guitar solos in the midst of that song is pretty awesome. Seemed like a together guy. One of the rare celebs to mention his faith in God a lot. Not some crazy spirit God but the traditional God. I also love the fact he still lived in Minnesota. As far as I'm concerned that says something. I love Prince. Rest in Peace. p.s. I know adults who have died of flu. If you ever get a serious bout, don't let yourself get dehydrated. Don't be shy about going to emergency. Death is possible from the flu. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/enterta...e-snl/83458354/

After watching a video of some entitled college students listing all the sentences that are offensive to them (asking an Asian person where they are from was included as offensive; good luck making small talk in the future) and it got me to thinking about the Black Lives Matter movement. I was thinking ... we have an African American president who won twice; the next President is female and is a hero to the African American voter, many if not a majority of the mayors of big cities are African American, many if not a majority of police chiefs in big cities are African American. Haven't we made a lot of progress in this area? Why don't the Black Lives Matter people go to the top and speak with Obama about the issue or go to the mayors and police chiefs and protest whenever they are in public? Walking in a library and screaming at white people seems a silly strategy when there are a lot of leaders who are African American who might be in a position to be able to help them? Oh and the students said saying All Lives Matter is definitely offensive and one should be expelled for doing so on the video I watched.

Good victory. Still need more than 7 hits a game but it all worked out fine.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) Ventura said there are no plans to send slumping DH Avi Garcia to minor leagues. #WhiteSox At least the media asked the question. Last year it was a given he was going nowhere. Maybe Avi will wake up when he hears the discussion about his ineptitude at the plate.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 03:55 AM) Pitching and defense. All you need. Go out and get someone who can play a good LF (and can hit a bit) and move Melky to DH We need Abreu to hit and a league average offense from shortstop and catcher at bare minimum. -

BTW you can tell Stone loves working with this new announcer. I love Hawk but as a grouchy grandpa, he's way too grouchy way too often for a guy paid as much as Hawk is. Maybe Hawk will notice and act less pissy all season since this new guy is so happy to be there.
