QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 03:44 AM) I keep hoping for a TON of roster turnover after this year, but the way things have progressed this year, 2015 is going to be another rebuilding year instead of a contending season. Just too many holes to try and fix them all in one offseason. Yeah, and a pessimist might say there could be regression from Lexi and Gillaspie who had great seasons at the plate. Also, I love him, but Flowers at any moment could turn into the 10-for-90 Tyler again. Also Eaton is amazing, but could be injury prone. Yikes.

Do all teams have pitchers like the Sox have had at the end of the rotation? Axelrod and now Carroll? So Soxtalk, doesn't watching Carroll make you long to grab a bat and take some hacks? My gosh he is awful (I do realize he's somehow had some good outings; I should say his stuff is awful).

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 03:23 AM) This team has a good 1B, SS, 3B, CF, #1 SP, #2 SP, Petricka....the rest is mediocre. If anything, it seems this team overachieved the first 3 months of the year. And yet my man, Hawk, just said the Sox will be dominant starting next year. I dunno .....
-
That last at bat is how I will always remember Beckham. He is one of the worst hitters (approach wise) in baseball history. I don't think that's hyperbole. How can Robin allow him to bat that way?
-
I love Hawk, but I disagree about the future. He just said "starting next year good times a comin." How can he say that when the team needs pitching so badly? Sale, Q, Danks and Rodon to start next year sounds good. But if Rodon isn't ready, we have only 2 reliable starters plus off and on Danks, who despite my love for him, may not be special. That leaves a team with no bullpen and horrible defense. The defense doesn't project to be better next year, does it? We also need a DH in the post-Dunn era. I mean I despise Dunn, but Sox still are in need of a slugger at DH. Question marks at second and catcher remain. And Gillaspie always could cool off. His defense is atrocious. So in conclusion... IS HAWK RIGHT? I'd be happy if he was.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 07:41 PM) Using the same criteria, Gordon Beckham has been extremely unlucky, yet all anyone says is he sucks. You mentioned his walk/k ration. Last year he had more walks than strikeouts, yet that translated to 16 walks and a league leading at the time 57 strikeouts when he was sent back to AAA. He still fans more than he walks in AAA. I don't see how that translates to instant success. We are about 3 weeks away from roster expansion. That would be a good time to call him up. There is no reason to rush. No decision on his future is going to be decided if he got called up and was awesome or horrible the next 15 games anyway. I think many of us are just sick of watching his ridiculous batting stance and way he hitches back, trying to be a power hitter. Speaking for myself, I'm just sick of him more than the backup quarterback syndrome regarding Semien. Beckham has no clue at the plate and it gets annoying seeing him swing the way he does. He ought to have the approach of the new Gillaspie, as somebody else pointed out. In conclusion ... I'm personally sick of his approach and the results. Semien may suck, but it's time to see. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 04:04 AM) Sorry, been out of town. Is the pain near the knee cap or further back? Near the kneecap. Also the area at the bottom of the tibia gets tight sometimes when jogging. It almost feels like it's going to snap. Is that a stretching issue?

If you are Andrew Wiggins, is there any bright side to going to Minnesota? Is he supposed to jack up 30 shots a game and make a name for himself by averaging 20-30 points a game on a 10-win team? What do you do if you are Andrew Wiggins stuck in Minnie?

Eaton leaves game after running into fence

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) The White Sox have to lead the majors in just dumb/idiotic outfield play. Eaton's recklessness and decision-making with throws. Avisail's overall awkwardness out there. Tank's lack of ability to do anything well but throw when he has a full head of steam going. DeAza. Enough said. That DeAza play against Minnesota was probably the final turning point in the season...in terms of any prayer for fighting for the Wild Card. Win that game, and the series...things might be different. Instead of 4-2 or 5-1 against two last place teams, we're 2-4 instead. Now we're facing a very tough stretch of games. It was probably just an illusion anyway, to think we had either the rotation/bullpen to go on an extended winning streak (or could actually lose 5-10 games in a row with Abreu/Sale/Eaton/Quintana/Alexei and "compete" for a Top 11 pick that wouldn't be forfeited signed certain free agents). I knew the Sox were in deep trouble when some poster mentioned we were playing two horrific teams at home. That obviously has never mattered with the Sox. As far as Eaton, love his enthusiasm, but he's got to do a better job of knowing where the wall is. It's insane to hit it as hard as he did. The Sox do need to start fielding better defensive teams. When they are built to contend, lack of defense will prevent them from doing much damage. -
I see Arias is going to represent herself at her sentencing trial which is a full fledged trial. Do judges look down on this bulls***? Is she going to embarrass herself and pretty much assure herself of the death penalty by doing this? I'd think judges would not like a person who knows not what she is doing be her own attorney.

It does seem strange to treat them here. How does this virus mainly spread? How are so many people getting the virus in Africa? You'd think if it takes over Africa eventually it'll spread everywhere, but maybe ptatc or somebody knows more about this.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) Talent. He has never really appeared to see the ball well out of the pitchers hand, and a lot of times when he does, his hand/eye coordination is too poor to do anything with it and he ends up rolling over it, fouling it back, or popping it up. You could give me the 3 best coaches in the world, but I'm still not gonna hit .050 at the MLB level. Good take. I hope the Sox brass realizes this and moves on in the offseason and dumps Viciedo for whatever they can get.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) He's a mental midget with a very long swing. He built his hype on spraying the ball into the RF gap but once the league figured out how early he had to gear up to hit fastballs he started seeing a steady diet of inside heat followed by junk. Instead of trying to shorten his swing (see Gillaspie, Conor) Beckham has doubled down on this approach (looking for power I think) and it hasn't worked at all. His swing is just too long for MLB. If he learns 3B a bit he'd be a good utility guy but his years as a starter are over. That's a pretty good post. In other words, he's a very very easy out. Pitchers must love facing the guy. -
Would love to see the Tigers blow it. It's possible without Leyland. I'm not a Royals fan but I'd love to see them win it if the Sox can't. Fans are obnoxious here but they've been waiting 25-30 years for playoffs. Now that Hosmer is hurt they are hot. Hosmer is a prima donna IMO. Moustakas and Ioki and Salvador Perez are pretty hot. Pretty sad the Wal Mart cheapies have a better team than the Sox. Very sad.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) Haha are you serious? We've been blown out by two of the worst teams in all of baseball and you're thinking about a wildcard!? I said last chance at wildcard. There are 7 weeks left. Sox are just about dead. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 06:03 PM) No one could seriously want Rios. This is a "grass is always greener" bunch; or "the lousy player isn't so lousy if he wears a different uniform", but wanting Rios is taking it to the extreme. Nobody wants him. As far as Viciedo, I despise him, except for the occasions he makes contact and bashes one. Occasionally he really truly makes contact and sends it flying. I wonder why hitting coaches can make no progress with him. He must have some talent, considering the magestic bombs he hits once every couple weeks.

greg775 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wonder if Beckham just naturally sucks or if he's uncoachable. You never hear any rumors about Beckham. So is it a matter of lack of hitting ability, the fact he just can't see a baseball and drive a baseball, or is it that he won't listen to hitting coaches? A lot of first round picks flop, but you have to wonder about Beckham. Personally I've never liked his batting stance and the way he cocks his bat when going for a pitch. It's really sad but without the hype, he's really no better than Chris Getz. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) Tied for 10th worst record in the Majors now if Tampa holds on. It's a crazy season. The Sox have been teetering all the time, but keep battling back to a few games of .500. They are one 1-9 road trip from being one of the worst teams in baseball and I fear that rotten 2-3 weeks of ball is still out there for this team. They keep proving me wrong, but the pessimistic me feels that long losing streak is coming and they'll still get a top five draft pick. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) Beckham- 53 days. Stay calm. Once he leaves the Sox, he finally becomes Chris Getz. Will be a scrub for a couple different teams then finally be done.
