  1. Not another player who is being beloved by some on Soxtalk ... Webb. Geez. What have Nate Jones and Webb done to be so beloved? Webb has been total horses***. Yet some want Robin to have used him in high pressure situations as if he'd actually do better in those situations. I do feel badly for Nate with the Tommy John. He'll obviously not be heard from again for a long long time.
  2. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:44 AM) I am appalled that our pitching staff was set up to have Sale skip this series and let Noesi throw batting practice to the Tigers. We all know that it will be easier to win the division than make the wild card due to the number of teams to pass in the standings. A sweep of this series would have greatly enhanced those chances, but it appears now that the best we can do is win the series 2-1 (which only gains one game in the standings). Ventura should have had this series highlighted when setting up the rotation after the all star break and Sale should have been one of those on the mound (with Noesi not throwing this series). Just another example of mismanagement by our leader Robin and further proof we will never win a World Series with him at the helm. This smells a lot like that Royals series in the Cell. We win the first game then the better team dusts us off the next 2.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:24 AM) Please no LOL. Why "please no?" He's not a bad righty. Probably cost 13 mill a year though for 3-4 years.
  4. I hope we trade him to some NL team. I'm sure he'll be hot for 2 weeks after he goes to his new team and it'd suck if the Sox had to play that team.
  5. Would be nice to trade him. I really don't want to see him pitch for the Sox again.
  6. QUOTE (almagest @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:32 AM) Tyler Flowers is having good at-bats, even when he strikes out. He fouled off some tough pitches, including high fastballs tonight, and those are things he didn't do before The Magic Glasses. I don't think he's all of a sudden going to be a solid or even average hitter, but... maybe? I can hope, right? Flowers' batting average is currently acceptable. Kudos to him. Hope he keeps it up. What a great win again. Hopefully the Sox can win this series. They've been patsies to Detroit for way too long now. The Sox are one 8-10 game win streak from being wild card contenders. Somehow the s*** Royals put together a 10 gamer. I don't think it's in the Sox, but the Sox have enough good players to stay within a hair of .500 all year, right?
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 09:14 PM) But they aren't factoring in Rios' leadership and hustle. It was a great day for me when the Sox finally got rid of Rios.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) The fact is Danks is on pace for close to 200 innings pitched and most of the time pitches a pretty solid game. If the peripherals say he's one of the league's worst pitchers, the peripherals are wrong. He's no ace, but he's no bum. Exactly. This is what I've been trying to say and Dick Allen says it beautifully. John Danks would look good in the Sox rotation for some time to come IMO.
  9. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 01:06 AM) Okay, the dudes having fun about his glasses are chill with me, but you're on the naughty chair. He's hitting .243/.299/.350 with a .371 BABIP and a 35.4 K% (dead last in the entire MLB). He's put the ball in play 166 times, for 62 hits. Applying the league average BABIP of .300 (his 2011 BABIP was .261, his 2012 .301 and his 2013 .261) to his line gives him 50 hits. Add his 6 homers, divide by his 280 at-bats and an average BABIP would have given him an average of a clean .200. Even assuming all 12 hits he loses were singles (which is generous because he's had extra-base hits that normally would have been outs, like that double which span and then hit the bag), that would leave Ordinary Luck Tyler Flowers with a line of .200/.260/.307. He's just not an MLB hitter. He also ranks 66 of 96 in catcher framing, so it's not like there's some insane hidden value. Aren't most catchers horses*** hitters in this day and age? Is Tyler really hitting .245? That's not bad for a good defensive catcher like him.
  10. So how'd Chicago do last weekend? 30 or more murders? Or are things getting better?
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 01:41 AM) Last year my insurance company took like 3 weeks to decide that yes, they were going to pay for a CT scan that I actually needed. Last week I had to go to the ER (I have a $125 deductible I think) where I had, among other things, a CT scan. Looking forward to getting that bill in the mail. If all I get is just a bill for $125 (that I haven't paid yet) then I'll be shocked, honestly. I think people that work for insurance companies are the modern-day used car salesmen in terms of lowlifes on the list of workers. Remember when car salesmen were considered lowest of the low? Seriously, do these people want us to die?? I mean they obviously don't want you to have the CT scan. Is their goal to kill us off? It's ridiculous. They'd rather kill us than OK treatment.
  12. Not to be redundant, but doesn't anybody want to make the Sox a good offer for Beckham? Now is definitely the time to deal him. We've got replacements in the wings. Cmon, Mr. Hahn. Get us some good prospects for Beckham please.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) The White Sox team ERA is 4.13 and their team FIP is 4.09. John Danks is at 4.40 and 4.63. Thus, John Danks is actually making the White Sox "pathetic" pitching staff even more "pathetic." Seriously greg, think before you speak. Maybe do some research. I understand that you may have some emotional attachment to John Danks, but he's not that good of a pitcher anymore. If the Sox get prospects, meaning the plural form of the word prospect, then they've already won. I've been citing quality starts regarding Danks. Isn't he kicking butt in quality starts? It's not like he's been Axelrod-esque or Carroll-esque in terms of stuff, either. The guy takes the mound and you can be assured a quality start (f*** I've jinxed his next start with this, though).
  14. That's crazy. I go to college volleyball matches on occasion and there's always some amazing looking woman on both teams. You just watch the match and occasionally remark how good looking some of them are. Naturally your eyes focus on the gorgeous women in the lineup occasionally. No big deal. Hell, some people look at cheerleaders. College volleyball is so much more exciting than women's basketball. It's because those women can do things the average frat guy or dorm guy or 20-something intramural jock can't. You watch a college volleyball match and you see power and some great athleticism in keeping balls alive with dives, etc. I'm serious. Not a bad sport now that they've gotten rid of side-outs which were boring and too hard to keep track of scoring. Women's bball on the other hand is so bad.
  15. Tick tock, the clock is ticking and still no Beckham trade yet. Maybe the team loves his defense and won't part with him. Rock ... give us the inside scoop on Beckham. Who likes him? Jerry? Hahn? Is he considered untouchable by the higher ups? Is he good clubhouse guy? Why have the Sox not parted ways yet with Beckham?
  16. Would a trade of Danks for prospects be a sign the team does not plan on winning again next year? I'd say yes that's what it means. You'd be totally weakening an already pathetic staff.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) Ventura isn't a managerial genius, but I think next year will be more important to win. They have Sale and Abreu, so they owe it to themselves to try to put a team around them that has some expectations to win games. This year seems to be a feeling out process with some new guys, a ton of injuries, and some guys that have no shot of returning next year. Ventura's key year will be next year. The "wait til next year" stuff is kind of scary. You can do that year after year and next thing you know it's always 'wait til next year' if the team doesn't build up the roster. This year isn't on Robin as much as Hahn. If Robin keeps the team within five games of .500 it's a masterful job. If the team wins five games in September and plummets, not so great overall. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) It's not a few times....its 2-3 times per week. If it was a game or two, it could be forgiven. However, when it happens over and over again with the clown never learning a lesson, its time for him to go. Loved Robin as a player......can't stand him as a manager. Probably most of the complaints are his handling of pitching matchups and not pinch hitting more in the late innings. We can all stop right there. No manager in the history of the game could make the right call(s) with this bullpen. These guys simply cannot pitch on a consistent basis. Bella leads the laughably bad bullpen brigade. Don't judge Robin on pitching decisions (except that one game where he ran out of pitchers; that disgusted me). As far as pinch hitters, cmon. Batting Flowers today wouldn't have paid off. This team isn't exactly "deep" where you can effectively pinch hit much where it would make a difference. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 01:53 AM) Late to this thread. One big question: What were the specific things he did wrong today? Pulled Carroll after six? Lucky to get that much out of him. Went to Bella? He had been pitching good. He just didn't respond well to the umpire shakedown. Went to Guerra? Dustin Hermanson's not walking through that door. It's not his vault that Viciedo and DeAza are guys who have no concept about how to put the ball in play and drive in a run from third with less than two outs. silly thread. Pretty good post when you read it a couple times. He's right IMO.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) Lucy is right on the borderline at 50-60% positive and negative reviews. There are a lot of similarities with Salt, the Angelina Jolie movie. If you went only by reviews, pretty much the only movies you'd watch would be the Top 20-30 favorites for the Academy Awards, and 50% of those are movies that bore most people completely to death and leave them wondering how those "artsy" critics could possibly see something in a movie that they're totally missing. God's Not Dead and all of those movies with Kirk Cameron/Courageous/Left Behind are ripped to shreds by critics...so you would be left with only Heaven is for Real and a split decision on Noah, just like Lucy. You would never watch a single Michael Bay or Adam Sandler movie, either. It'd take a lot for me to go back to see a Sandler movie after Grownups. Oh boy, that was a snoozer. You'd have had to pay me a minimum of 100 bucks to go see Grownups II.
  19. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) A tentative future: 1. As deadline day approaches, all remains quiet on the W Sox trade rumor front. The availability of Lester overtakes the availability of Price as TB decides to hold steady. AJ Burnett ends up on the Pirates where he belongs. 2. The day before the deadline the Royals acquire Viciedo for a pair of A-ballers. No one misses him. 3. Danks remains a White Sock but is moved in the offseason w/ cash to an AL West team. 4. Alexei finishes his contract on the South Side. 5. On Aug. 1 2014 Gordon Beckham is DFA'd A lot of talk in KC that Viciedo may be headed here. As much as I despise Dayan's hitting ability, I'd hate to see him rake vs. the Sox the next 10 years. Cause you just know somehow he'd destroy Sox pitching. Don't trade him to a divisional foe. Same with Beckham. Send them far away to the NL or out West. BTW, notice Chen got rocked today. I still think the White Sox single handedly are responsible for Chen's being in the bigs the last 5-6 years. He can't get any other teams' batters out. Just the White Sox.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) It isn't going to get fixed now. The Sox bullpen, which the exception of closer in past seasons, has been trash a while now. It's growing old. Lot of bodies have failed out there. This current bullpen has ruined an otherwise fairly outstanding season. Bella has a good inning every once in a while, but overall he is really really bad.

Don't people skim reviews? How could anybody in their right mind go see Lucy after those scathing reviews. If a movie is deemed a total disaster I immediately cross it off the list. Like Sex Tape. I didn't bother.
  22. Sure is nice to win a series vs. the Twinks. If somehow our batting practice starter could beat the Twins for the four-game sweep, it'd be sweet revenge.
  23. The Sox should try to improve for this year and the future both. s***, the crappy Royals think they are going to win a wild card. Why? Their bullpen and defense. If the Sox could trade Beckham and Dunn for some bullpen pieces maybe the team can catch lightning and have a great final eight weeks. I am of course highly skeptical we can get anything for those two, but maybe Hahn can pull a magic act. Might as well ride it out with Viciedo and Flowers the rest of the season. It's amazing how Abreu single handedly has improved the team this much. He and Sale actually could be co-MVPs of the AL. Can you imagine how bad this team would be without them? They single handedly have spearheaded a team that is sort of close to .500 rather than a 100 loss team. That's the definition of "most valuable" player.
  24. Some of these ballparks are too big. FAns want to see offense. That Tyler blast shoulda been a dinger in many parks that are more hitter friendly.
  25. Damn, that would have been awesome had Tyler pulled it a bit. He just missed that HR and the one over the foul pole in Chicago. Don't you guys agree it's hard to despise Tyler?
