  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:55 AM) Hawk should use his Ipad to look up minor league games. He'd know Wilkins hit two more tonight. How old is Wilkins? Is he a real prospect?
  2. I want to make it clear I don't think Robin is a clown or anything. I just forget sometimes he is managing with the full realization this team is not a contender. Sometimes I start to think the team actually could make up five games and be in the wild card race. I need to get it through my head it ain't happening.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:43 AM) Again, 1 run in 5 innings. But sure, anyone would have pulled him Ned also has a dominating bullpen, and the Sox have....yea I'll give you that. the Royals bullpen is better. But it's the exact same deal. He didn't let Chen go six cause Chen is horrible. Ditto Carroll. I went to grab a bite to eat and listening on the radio Denny Matthews was laughing at how bad Carroll was tonight. So I'm not alone. He said Ventura was "praying" Carroll could get through five. Don't the Sox have some prospect who could be taking Carroll's innings the rest of the season? Geez.
  4. There's just no reason to keep Beckham around anymore. He's something like four for his last 50. Just cut him if you don't want to trade him for a Class A player or release him. Please.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:13 AM) Your hindsight vision is crystal clear. A true manager would take out a pitcher that gave up one run in 5 innings Were we watching the same game? Carroll gave up a ton of hits and was pathetic. Ned outmanages Robin by taking his horrible pitcher out after five. I don't mind Robin, but hate the four games or so I've felt he basically conceded the game. Pretty tough to get to .500 that way. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:19 AM) Ventura does it again. He simply refuses to pull a starter until the game is out of hand, no matter how poorly he's pitching. Exact same thing he did Sunday. It's in baseball's unwritten book the starter has to go into the sixth or it's some slap in the face. No way he should have pitched the sixth inning in my humble opinion.
  6. It was a matter of which lousy pitcher totally imploded first. Answer was Carroll.
  7. This is another game I have a problem with Robin. Carroll somehow got through five innings. You can't take a chance on inning six. Got to go to the bullpen brigade.
  8. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:37 AM) When you have Dunns power you don't bunt.....Plus he's slow so it's probably gonna take 2 hits to get him in anyway. Saying he should bunt is absolutely ridiculous. There's not one player on the left side of the infield, you SHOULD bunt. It's a travesty to the game of baseball to let that defense prevail. Not one body on the left side. Ridiculous. Gillaspie got robbed on the shift as well. p.s. It's embarrassing a guy like Carroll is a major league starter. Baseball must really be hurting for pitching.
  9. Sox have no idea what to do against this batting practice pitcher, though Paulie did hit a liner. Chen is only good against the Sox so he drives Royals fans crazy, too. They don't even want him on the team. Yet against the Sox we'll be lucky to score one run. Wild.
  10. The shift is just ridiculous in baseball now. There were no baseball players on the left side of the infield for Dunn's at bat. You just have to bunt in that situation. It's just insane that players don't plop bunts down against these shifts. Not one player on the left side. Embarrassing for Dunn.
  11. Sad. I just hope the Royals can't hit our version of Chen, Scott Carroll, either.
  12. Dayan, what up? That second pitch was meat!
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:25 AM) Jose has back soreness according to some. ah ... that makes sense then.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:25 AM) I've given up trying to explain RV. Why in the f*** would a dude with a 45 wRC+ against LHP be your 3rd hitter? Why would you sit Jose and not Dunn today? Why couldn't you just not play Kong at all? I give up. Jose needs a day off every once in a while. Seems a shame like I was saying to have it come on a night a total hack is pitching. A lefthanded stiff.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 01:21 AM) Come on, no Jose? Why couldn't he just DH and let Konerko stay on the bench. Ostensibly Kong is good against LHP, in reality he's awful. Seems a shame Jose can't play against the soft tosser.
  16. And now, let the Bruce Chen Experiment Part Infinity vs. the Sox begin. The man who drove Ozzie Guillen crazy and has been getting the White Sox out since has taken the mound ...
  17. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 07:16 AM) I wish I didn't hate him so much so I could think more objectively. Any positive stat that he has annoys me to the point of wanting to disprove its actual credibility. Like OBP. Getting on base is good. But I don't ever see him get on base so wtf is this stat talking about? He's done. He has very few home runs this year for a power hitter. I commend him for today's key hit, especially if he was trying to go that way, but he's been an utter disaster on the south side.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 04:20 AM) well I guess nobody seems to be celebrating Nieto as our starting catcher for the next few days Not any more. It's been nice to have Flowers back there lately.
  19. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 05:03 AM) Dealing with health insurance is the absolute worst. My wife and I have done far too much of it for our daughter in the past year. The things they reject and make you jump through hoops to appeal is incredible. Tell us some stories. I'd be interested. It seems like we Americans are going to have to start asking questions regarding our treatment. We're truly in a bind. We go in the hospital or our kids go in and we/they get treated. The doctors do their jobs and do whatever they need to do and it is all recorded on a bill. Now normally, in the old days, this was fine. Let the doctors do their jobs to save us and our our loved ones and insurance paid for it all. The problem is now, the insurance companies won't pay squat. So we go in the hospital, heaven forbid for 2 weeks, and need major surgery, and let's say the total cost is 500,000. Let's say our insurance pays 350,000. I mean why have insurance? What's the difference between being on the hook for 150,000 bucks or 500,000. It ruins our lives either way. We're still on the hook for 150,000 bucks which the average Joe can't pay. Or if he can pay in one swoop his retirement is gone. We're going to have to get to the point we ask the doctors to OK everything through us so we can call our insurance companies to see if they'll cover it. If not we have to refuse the medications and services beyond the bare minimum and the hospitals will be guilty of cruel and inhumane treatment toward human beings. Funny thing is the hospitals would NEVER agree to such a thing. They provide treatment as they see fit, and we have to deal with the costs later. You know damn well every insurance company worker is told by their bosses to reject EVERYTHING they can. EVERYTHING. This is insane. Lives are being ruined daily/weekly.
  20. Great win. Sox need to get even with the punk Royals. That was our first win over KC in the Cell this year. Must back it up with more wins. The Royals seem to throw at our hitters a lot. Guthrie really did a disservice to his hitters cause Sale can throw that baseball pretty damn hard. Valencia had to be scared to death when that pitch came sailing in on him. Sale deserves credit for getting even and plunking a hitter immediately. Surprised there wasn't a brawl. Maybe one in Game Two if KC hits Eaton leading off the game. Bella looked like a big leaguer tonight and Jake looked good. Glad Dunn made them pay for the shift. Other than that ground ball hit at the invisible shortstop who should have been standing there, the Sox couldn't touch Guthrie again.
  21. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:32 AM) Would it have been better if she got hit by a car? drowned in a pool? It sucks any way you look at it. I see where the grandma demanded that anyone who knew something to come forward. Good luck with that. Something about snitches and stitches comes to mind... No offense, but you seem insensitive. Drowning or getting hit by a car would be a lousy accident. Unless the driver was DUI, then it would be manslaughter. But to think of some bastard firing a bullet into the window and knowing how happy the punk is to learn he actually hit and killed somebody just sickens me. When I grew up in the city of Chicago (103rd southside) we didn't have to lock our doors at night. People had each other's backs. Now people are just shooting each other left and right each and every weekend. It shouldn't be this way.
  22. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:24 AM) Dude, you seriously need to stop listening to the news. get books on tape for all i care. If the news makes you like this, stop listening. As for McCarthy's weak gun laws statement, he can kiss my ass. I swear he craps his pants every time he thinks of anyone other than a cop with a gun. I would bet big money that 99% of those shooters used illegally obtained guns and have records a mile long and should have been in jail and not ABLE to commit those shootings to begin with. but the political gasbags won't put those guys in jail, instead prefer to bust minor drug users and waste resources on seat belt laws and crap. Rahm's comments actually made a little more sense, "Everybody says, 'So what are you going to do?' As if there's a single thing that's going to resolve this problem," Emanuel said. "It is a communitywide problem, which requires a communitywide solution.". I liked Rahm's statement, too. But damn ... little kids just want to be little kids and live and play. To die at 11 years old is just ridiculously sad. That kid would have better off never being born. She has to exit the earth at 11 because of a stray f***ing bullet? Just beyond sad to me.
  23. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 03:04 AM) you need to step away from TV news and get XM radio for your truck. OMG. Hearing about the 11 year old child who died doesn't affect your heart? Seeing the grandmother cry doesn't affect you? Realizing a young girl has to leave the world for this reason makes you blast me?? Wow. Love this part of the story ... Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy blamed weak gun laws for the spurt of holiday violence. "There has to come a tipping point where this changes," McCarthy said then of the violence. "The illogical nature of what's happening here -- that government can intercede and prevent this from happening is overwhelming. And I refuse to think otherwise in a great country like America that we can continue to allow this to happen -- not just on a state, but on a federal level." p.s. The truck line is unacceptable. Do you want me to send you an accounting of what I drive and my annual income? My spending habits? Sad.
  24. Now the Chen returns tomorrow. There is absolutely no reason Bruce Chen should get our major league hitters out tomorrow. He's that bad a pitcher this year. Would be nice to see some of our hitters like Dayan, Abreu, Paulie, even Flowers elevate and knock that bum out via the home run ball.
  25. Hawk is kind of right. It truly is "when" you play teams. Remember that last home series vs. KC. Sox stood no chance. KC was that hot; Sox were not. Tonight, even though it was Guthrie, even though Sox blew a zillion chances, the Sox dusted off a bad, slumping, anemic KC team. Nice job, Bella and Jake, to close it out.
