  1. QUOTE (1dog @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 05:18 AM) That's amazing. What a strange response. I would have been stunned. Did he think you were drunk or something? Where was this at? Wimpy just seems like he would get along with anyone. Don't you agree it's kind of 'sad' that the best broadcast chemistry has been Hawk with Wimpy and Stone with Wimpy? When Hawk and Wimpy were together, wasn't there a story of a feud as well? And Hawk and D.J? I like Hawk's broadcasting but I wonder if he's bipolar or something.
  2. QUOTE (1dog @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 05:11 AM) I think I still agree, but I guess we have till the end of the season at this point to make a determination. I was the biggest Flowers "hater" 2 weeks ago, but now I'm not sure what to think. Lol Those 2 balls he hit tonight did not look like flukes. He absolutely crushed that home run. If that ball was hit by Abreu and Hawk was announcing, he would have talked about it for 2 straight innings. Watch the zoomed out replay. I couldn't believe it. I agree. That homer off the facade was almost epic. And that blast over the foul pole at the Cell, which might have been fair, was the same. Flowers seems like the kind of guy not yet dead so to speak. He's giving it a fair shot. Ultimately he's probably not good enough, perhaps he's worthless, but of late, he's been full of the WOW factor.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 03:51 AM) If you ever run into Stone or Hawk and say hello, your current thought about their egos will turn 180 degrees. Hawk is very nice. He is the type of guy who says hi to you even though he doesn't know you walking down the sidewalk. Apparently when people ask Stone for an autograph, he still thinks people are trying to make huge money on it. I'm not surprised. I guess I misread this one. Wow. Did not know this. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 03:52 AM) Do you honestly think glasses have magically turned Tyler into an MLB-caliber hitter? The dude had what must surely have been one of the worst 100-125 or so PA in White Sox history, he was always bound to put a little run together, it's just coincided with him beginning to wear glasses I'm enjoying these two majestic blasts Flowers hit, one foul, and that shot off the wall for now. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 03:59 AM) My conversation with Stone. Me: "How's it going?" Stone: "I don't know how you're doing, but I'm doing well." Wasn't sure what to think of it. Hawk has always been awesome in person. Damn. I did not know Steve was a dick. My bad.
  4. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 03:45 AM) I realise it's kinda s***ty to be unhappy about success, but I kind of wince when Flowers gets a hit (once it's not an important one), I really hope he doesn't hoodwink the management into getting another year as the starter I don't mind at all when he whacks it off the facade of the upper deck like tonight and that ball he simply crushed over the foul pole at the Cell the other night that was foul. I can honestly say I'd rather watch Flowers bat than Beckham. At least with Flowers there's a miniscule chance he'll do something to make you say, Wow.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:42 AM) It would be cool to have a Hawk/Wimpy/Stone daily broadcasting lineup. But most teams use 2, right? So Wimpy has subbed for Stone earlier and now he's subbed for Hawk. Both times the announcers were having fun, joking around. Evidence is coming out thru their performances that indeed Hawk and Stoney probably do hate each other. I'm thinking it's Hawk's fault. I'm thinking his ego is bigger than Stoney's. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 03:22 AM) Danks has had no pressure on him tonight still has given up 4 runs in 6+ Ever heard of pitching with a big lead? Geez. The Danks hate is annoying to me. I like his style. I like his stuff. I am a John Danks fan!
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) Beckham rates as an A- on the Advanced Stats Grading Scale (ASGS) However, if he keeps on hitting like he is, he's heading straight for a B+ in the minds of the advanced stats gurus So he's an A-. We all should shut up then. That means he's great. An A is a great rating. We all should be ultra satisfied with Gordon Beckham. If he's an A-, wow, he's actually elite.
  7. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:21 AM) He is having a good season, plus. 360 OBP. That has to have value, and you have some examples there. Would Oakland, if the Sox were willing to pay for most of Dunn's remaining deal, be worth a decent prospect? I think he's simply untradeable. Nobody wants Adam Dunn and we're going to find that out as the deadline passes.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:34 AM) Our lineup isn't that slow. If I had to rate each player's speed/10, I'd say: Viciedo- 3 Eaton- 8 De Aza- 7 Gillaspie- 5 Ramirez- 7 Beckham- 5 Abreu- 3 Flowers- 4 Dunn- 2 Average of 4.9 I was thinking about Dunn, Viciedo, Abreu and Paulie since he still plays some. I guess Flowers is slow so like he said that might have been a wash.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:32 AM) I can't imagine Flowers is any quicker than him though. That's who he would have replaced. Maybe you're right. I never considered Flowers sloth-like. I used to worry about DPs when AJ stepped to the plate.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:30 AM) Tradeworthy performance by Danks thus far. If Hahn is telling the truth about the Sox not believing in a 5 year rebuilding process, it would make little sense to trade Danks. Sox will be horrific next year if the starting rotation takes a steep decline. Q, Sale and Danks to go with Rodon is pretty damn impressive on paper. Taking Danks away will really weaken the rotation. So is Hahn lyin or not?
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:30 AM) Not if he keeps hitting the way he did in Boston. His defense isn't exactly stellar, his above average offense for a catcher is what kept him around. I woulda been OK with him coming back, but he would have really added to lack of team speed. We still have a lot of slow guys. Adding AJ would have been a really slow guy.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:29 AM) Do you think Quintana watches games like this and just feels sad? No, but it is a shame he never gets any runs to work with.
  13. The end of AJ's career is gonna be so many different teams. He should take good notes and write a couple books about baseball when he finishes. He's going to experience the way a lot of different franchises do things. If he wants to keep playing, he figures to have a few more stops besides St. Looie.
  14. Even though I worship him, I'm OK with the Sox not picking him up. He's so slow that it might be buzzkill with all the double plays. Plus it's been nice to have a catcher able to throw out runners. I love and worship AJP, but this is acceptable to me.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 02:02 AM) How come they don't serve good burgers at ballparks? Surely there's a grill at the Cell with great burgers, right? The Cell has so much food it must have a great grill chef somewhere.
  16. When I jog I sometimes get soreness on both knees. On my left knee, the soreness is on the right side; on the right knee, the soreness is on the left side. It's almost like it's on the bone, like a bruise. I don't get the pain when I walk at a brisk pace. Should I ice my knees? I'd like to up my distance running but with this soreness I don't want to do something stupid and get hurt. My broken foot finally healed and I got the OK to work out again about 3 weeks ago and I've been enjoying walking and jogging except for the knee soreness.
  17. The Cavs can't trade Wiggins for 30 days. Does that kill the deal?
  18. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) I can absolutely deny that... Why? In football they celebrate the mega deals, but the minute the player sucks they can cut him loose the following season. Also, the teams all pretty much have a shot at the playoffs if they are not complete buffoons in the front office. Baseball there's all this wasted money floating out there.
  19. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) Ignoring the requisite Ozzie love and Kenny/Hahn bashing, there's not a lot of outrage over Danks' deal. Before he got hurt, it looked like a decent deal. Even now with him returning to form, it still doesn't look too bad, especially when you consider some of the other deals out there. There's much more outrage over Dunn's deal, and you know it. I see a lot of hating on Dunn, but little about the actual deal. People simply say it made sense at the time. Do you deny this? I'd say a majority of the posts on Danks mention getting "rid of him now" and disdain about the money he makes and wanting to free it up. I don't mind Danks at all. I think he's had a fine season. He's the least of the Sox problems. Sale, Danks and Q are a great 3/5s of a rotation I think. After the performance last night you wonder why Sox aren't winning more with 4/5s of it sometimes doing well.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) You should look into his previous job at MSU. Barry took that job because he needed a job as much as the Salukis needed a coach I hate lowery so much That's awesome that Hinson is popular. I met him in Lawrence and he's pretty much one of a kind. Helluva nice guy. One of the best. The tragedy with his son in law was unthinkably sad.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 06:56 PM) Says the guy who demands that Jerry spends, spends, spends, "It's not my money!" I just laugh at the way some Sox fans on here want the Sox to have a payroll of about 10 million bucks total and the way they are so inconsistent. There's outrage on here over Danks, but so little over Dunn's deal. People say, "the deal made sense at the time." Sometimes I think people hated Ozzie so much now that he's gone they are so happy they give Hahn, Kenny, everybody a free pass. I laugh at baseball for giving a guy like Danks what he makes but when the Sox payroll is so low, I could give a s***. I don't want to dump him just because of what he makes. The Dunn and Rios contracts are so laughable. The Fielder contract. On and on. I'm talking about baseball as an industry. You can't deny football is awesome the way they can dump players at any time and not pay them any more.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) This was kind of what I was getting at with my previous posts, and you know my feelings on Beckham. If I'm coming to Beckham's back, someone is seriously misrepresenting who he is and what he's done. Those of us advanced stat haters laugh again. If there are advanced stats that say Beckham is anything but a C-minus grade type player then I say, cmon. All you do is have to watch the games and track season after season to know Beckham is lousy. I mean are we all in agreement Beckham is a C or D player? He's no A or B.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) Phillies have a lot of guys who make a lot of money that are going to get traded. And will likely have to eat a lot of cash in these contracts. Will be interesting to see what they do. Hamels, Lee, Utley, etc. Howard is just awful so I don't know who would pick him up. Hurt the last couple of years and just signed to an awful deal. Just another guy teams sign and ultimately want to get rid of to save the money. Here's a helpful hint: DONT SIGN THEM TO THESE TYPE CONTRACTS IN THE FIRST PLACE! Damn, I wish baseball had the same system as football. Most baseball players would be out on their butts two years after signing their mega deals. Teams almost always regret the deals shortly after the player signs them. How the hell did the NFL pull that off with its players union? Wow.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) Not with this bullpen, but only 4 teams in baseball have done better than 6-4 their last 10 games. If you go on a streak, you can leapfrog several teams quickly. I don't think the Sox have the horses for a big streak, but maybe beating the crap out of the Twins 4 times can start something. Hadn't the Sox lost six in a row to Minnie before last night or six in a row at target field or something? IMO we'll be lucky still to split.

I have to say I enjoyed immensely Dawn of the Planet of the Apes today at the matinee. I really did. If I had one possible complaint I'd say they might have been able to hack 10 minutes off the movie by cutting the action fight scenes just a bit. The fights were kind of cool, I'll admit, but 2 hrs 10 minutes is a bit long for a movie considering there's 15 minutes of coming attractions as well. Did u guys like it? Really enjoyed it. I bought into the premise and didn't think it silly that the apes could communicate, etc. I really think it's what a movie going experience is about. Quite entertaining.
