Phillies willing to send most of $70 million contract to deal How

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) Ignoring the requisite Ozzie love and Kenny/Hahn bashing, there's not a lot of outrage over Danks' deal. Before he got hurt, it looked like a decent deal. Even now with him returning to form, it still doesn't look too bad, especially when you consider some of the other deals out there. There's much more outrage over Dunn's deal, and you know it. I see a lot of hating on Dunn, but little about the actual deal. People simply say it made sense at the time. Do you deny this? I'd say a majority of the posts on Danks mention getting "rid of him now" and disdain about the money he makes and wanting to free it up. I don't mind Danks at all. I think he's had a fine season. He's the least of the Sox problems. Sale, Danks and Q are a great 3/5s of a rotation I think. After the performance last night you wonder why Sox aren't winning more with 4/5s of it sometimes doing well. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) You should look into his previous job at MSU. Barry took that job because he needed a job as much as the Salukis needed a coach I hate lowery so much That's awesome that Hinson is popular. I met him in Lawrence and he's pretty much one of a kind. Helluva nice guy. One of the best. The tragedy with his son in law was unthinkably sad. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 06:56 PM) Says the guy who demands that Jerry spends, spends, spends, "It's not my money!" I just laugh at the way some Sox fans on here want the Sox to have a payroll of about 10 million bucks total and the way they are so inconsistent. There's outrage on here over Danks, but so little over Dunn's deal. People say, "the deal made sense at the time." Sometimes I think people hated Ozzie so much now that he's gone they are so happy they give Hahn, Kenny, everybody a free pass. I laugh at baseball for giving a guy like Danks what he makes but when the Sox payroll is so low, I could give a s***. I don't want to dump him just because of what he makes. The Dunn and Rios contracts are so laughable. The Fielder contract. On and on. I'm talking about baseball as an industry. You can't deny football is awesome the way they can dump players at any time and not pay them any more. -
Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) This was kind of what I was getting at with my previous posts, and you know my feelings on Beckham. If I'm coming to Beckham's back, someone is seriously misrepresenting who he is and what he's done. Those of us advanced stat haters laugh again. If there are advanced stats that say Beckham is anything but a C-minus grade type player then I say, cmon. All you do is have to watch the games and track season after season to know Beckham is lousy. I mean are we all in agreement Beckham is a C or D player? He's no A or B. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) Phillies have a lot of guys who make a lot of money that are going to get traded. And will likely have to eat a lot of cash in these contracts. Will be interesting to see what they do. Hamels, Lee, Utley, etc. Howard is just awful so I don't know who would pick him up. Hurt the last couple of years and just signed to an awful deal. Just another guy teams sign and ultimately want to get rid of to save the money. Here's a helpful hint: DONT SIGN THEM TO THESE TYPE CONTRACTS IN THE FIRST PLACE! Damn, I wish baseball had the same system as football. Most baseball players would be out on their butts two years after signing their mega deals. Teams almost always regret the deals shortly after the player signs them. How the hell did the NFL pull that off with its players union? Wow. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) Not with this bullpen, but only 4 teams in baseball have done better than 6-4 their last 10 games. If you go on a streak, you can leapfrog several teams quickly. I don't think the Sox have the horses for a big streak, but maybe beating the crap out of the Twins 4 times can start something. Hadn't the Sox lost six in a row to Minnie before last night or six in a row at target field or something? IMO we'll be lucky still to split.

I have to say I enjoyed immensely Dawn of the Planet of the Apes today at the matinee. I really did. If I had one possible complaint I'd say they might have been able to hack 10 minutes off the movie by cutting the action fight scenes just a bit. The fights were kind of cool, I'll admit, but 2 hrs 10 minutes is a bit long for a movie considering there's 15 minutes of coming attractions as well. Did u guys like it? Really enjoyed it. I bought into the premise and didn't think it silly that the apes could communicate, etc. I really think it's what a movie going experience is about. Quite entertaining.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 02:27 AM) Eaton's been fresh air and a big upgrade since opening day. As has the rejuvenated Gillaspie. Now we need 3 more like them + power hitter to join Abreu. Great post. Great win. Nice to see Jake doing such a nice job at closer. Maybe Sox have found one finally.

So are the Sox getting rid of Beckham or not? Any chance of trading Beckham and Dunn??? Or no? -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 11:35 PM) The Pirates have just recalled Brent Morel. Beckham can play 3rd. We FINALLY have a spot where Beckham would be a big upgrade. I wish Morel the best. Always liked him. Is he healthy finally? Poor Beckham. One of the biggest busts in Sox history considering where he was picked? -
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:49 AM) ALCOHOL INSPIRED AJ PIERZYNSKI WRITES HIS FORMER RED SOX TEAMMATES SHARE ON: RED — JULY 17, 2014 So it’s been a week since I was DFA’ed. And yesterday, my ties to the Boston Red Sox were officially cut. So now I’m out here, floating through Major League Baseball like some great, untethered zeppelin just looking for a place to call home for a couple months. And I’m fine with that. Maybe I’ll latch on to a team that ends up officially eliminating you guys from contention on an accidental bloop single off my bat. That’d be kinda cool. Or maybe I’ll just hang out at my brother-in-law’s pub and bait shop and swill craft beers all day while figuring new ways to spend the money you paid me. Either way, I know this is just business, and that’s how it goes. What I’m finding hard to swallow, however, is this bulls*** smear job you guys have been pulling on me since I was unceremoniously dumped. I mean, it’s not like anyone on the team made it easy on me. On the very first day I showed up at spring training, a couple goons pulled me aside, explained that I parked in a spot reserved for Ortiz’s son’s minibike, and whipped me with a chain. But hey, I’m a professional. I figured it was some sort of hazing thing, like my first day with the White Sox when they told me that holding Scott Podsednik’s balls in the shower was part of my job description. Who am I to question? Turns out, though, that you guys made up your minds long ago that I wasn’t gonna get in your little clique. How else do you explain the way you’d all drone on for hours about how awesome it was when you all had beards last year, when you know damn well that due to an injury suffered on a summer camp visit to a candy factory, when my pores were sealed with caramel, I’m physically incapable of growing one? Or how someone would yell, “Salty woulda had that!” whenever I’d drop something in the clubhouse? Or how I’d return to my locker after each game to find that someone had set all my clothes on fire. And that crap about me being aloof and always on my phone in a corner of the clubhouse? For your information, whenever I was on my phone, I was checking in on Babatunde, an orphaned boy in Uganda whom I’ve been financially supporting since his village was decimated by pirates and/or robots (I was never very clear on the specifics). Babatunde is unable to speak due to the mouth disease he’s contracted from a lack of fluoride in the water supply, and I sent him a smart phone so we could text each other. So PARDON ME if I was trying to bring a smile to the face of an orphaned Ugandan boy with no shoes and s***ty teeth and didn’t have time to listen to yet ANOTHER story about how Jonny Gomes wanted to track down the Marathon bombers on his own or how Mike Carp becomes photoflourescent after drinking Mountain Dew. And if I have to see Napoli shotgun another canned ham… well, let’s just say it’ll be too soon. As I said, I’m a professional. I’ve been here before. You don’t get to be “the most hated man in baseball” without getting used to teammates throwing shade. I’ll just close by saying if you’re gonna come out and tell the world what an asshole I am, you might want to let them in on your own special brand of hospitality. PS: Has anyone noticed their toothbrush tasting kinda funny? Just checking. Bye. Fake and not even that funny.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 03:16 AM) 5 blown saves, 1.99 HR/9, 3.98 era. He is gasoline, we all saw that last season, there is enough of that in the current bullpen Gasoline? 24 saves and five blown saves in this day and age? I'll take it. Especially being in Chicago he was very comfortable and in my opinion would have had another fine season. He's a fine relief pitcher. Geez. Hahn blew it big time having no bullpen, absolutely no bullpen. I simply disagree that Nate would have done the job. Not with his control and his bizarre delivery. I don't like him as a prospect at all. It cost the Sox a shot at the wild card that is for sure.

I think most people are "good" in regards to their own family. I'd say 75 percent. I'd say most people are "good" in regards to crisis. Like if they see someone get hit by a car they'll go help; if there's a neighborhood crisis they'll help. I'd say 85 percent are "good" in times of need, even to strangers. Weird dynamic here. I think 20 percent are "good" to people on a daily basis. Bosses are complete pricks; people are mean to people in the service industry; people are mean at work back stabbing to get ahead. I think except to their own family and in blatant crisis situations, people are very very selfish and miserable.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) We lost today that's all folks. But, when your bullpen allows 7 runner's in 2 innings things are bound to get ugly It's hard to believe this team would have been a wild card contender if it didn't have a laughingstock of a bullpen. Hahn "almost" put together a WC contending team in a short period of time. He made one trade too many. The Reed trade was laughably bad w/out a closer still on the roster. I realize Reed isn't all that great, but he was comfortable in Chicago and I think he'd have been a great ninth inning option all year leaving the other bodies for the set up roles. It's getting bad again vs. Central teams. Sox truly are the worst team in the division sadly, when Minnesota isn't even trying to put together a good team.
-
Horrible horrible game. We've lost 11 of 13 to KC in the Cell I think. Disgraceful that a big market team like Chicago can't hold its own vs. KC. Sickens me. Our AA team could beat Chen, but not the parent club. Serious question: Would Bruce Chen be in the major leagues the last 3-4 years if not for the Chicago White Sox? I truly wonder.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:38 AM) The Royals really want this win. Their best reliever and now their closer on in a 6-run game. We knew we were in trouble when no Abreu in lineup, Carroll as our starter and the foe was Chen. Basically we were all hoping but we had no chance tonite.

LOL at Beckham. .227 with 7 homers and 29 ribbies heading into that at bat. Those are Getz-like numbers folks. He needs to be released. Bring up Semien and let him sink or swim.
-
Sweet. Paulie hangs in there and bashes the ball.
-
This won't be pretty. Poor Paulie vs the heat.
-
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:19 AM) Viciedo 5-46 at exactly the wrong time It's hard to go five for 46. He can't hit a good pitcher. That's the bottom line. He can hit some of the hacks out there once in a while.
-
Dayan got blown away there. No chance with the big swing vs. the heater.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:15 AM) Is tomorrow a day game? Yep.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:10 AM) DV is so streaky though... I'd hate to see him go because after his 2012 season, I expected him to break out and become very good Streaky, but look at his batting average and on base percentage. He's only banged 12 or so homers and he tries to hit it out every single pitch. Not so good a percentage of HRs. Let him go.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 03:05 AM) This gloom and doom stuff concerning Beckham, Dunn, Ramirez, Viciedo, et al, is getting real old. We are losing a game that's all. I lost most of my hair but you don't hear me yelling about getting rid of combs and hair lotion El Rockin ... Beckham is something like 4 for 50. He's about .220 and he again this season is resembling Getz. He can't play the game of major league baseball. Viciedo also needs to go. He's not a big-league hitter unfortunately. Dunn is who he is. I'll give him his props. He's gotten a few big hits in his Sox years to go with the bad bad stuff. Ramirez is great; I won't blast him ever.

Royals doing what they do to the Sox in the Cell. Maul them. Can we somehow win the series tomorrow with Shields going?
