  1. We should lock this thread for one reason. He got an extension and this has ZERO chance of happening for some time to come. It's just not going to happen. The title of the thread is dumb cause it's not in the realm of possibility for a long long time.
  2. I just read the game thread and laughed at those blaming Robin for tonight's choke. Like somebody stated, the two goat relievers had been on a roll. Petricka and Guerro (sp?) had been doing "well" of late. It's not Robin's fault. Why doesn't Hahn ever get blamed on this board? How in the hell can you trade a decent closer when you have NO CLOSER to replace him? These losses are ON HAHN!! And don't tell me Nate was going to be a good closer. Cmon. Lindstrom? Maybe a decent piece of the pen but not our closer either. Robin is taking one for the team here. Why blame him when he has no bullpen bullets in the gun??? Seriously how would any of you handle this crap bullpen? Robin, whom I don't really like as a manager, is doing as good a job with the pen as any manager would. I repeat HAHN has some explaining to do. That Reed trade was downright silly.
  3. There is it. Our solution. Bring back AJP. Tell him it's just for the rest of this season. Flowers is backup. Everybody's happy in Soxland.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) You're still blaming Walker? Last year, the offense was horrible under Manto who supposedly was a godsend compared to Walker. Then Steverson shows up and he is the new guru. How much better are the Sox offensively if you take away the additions of Abreu and Eaton? This is Tyler's 3 major league hitting instructor, and there is no improvement. I think there is a lot of evidence to show Greg Walker more than likely wasn't the reason the White Sox couldn't hit when he was coaching and is even less likely the reason those same players aren't hitting now. It's all cliche. Blame the hitting coach who was a former weak hitting Sox player. I didn't even know who our current hitting coach was until I read his name in this thread.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) Hilarious! You don't agree that things have worsened considerably in all aspects (economy including gas prices, society, environment) during the Obama era? It's truly depressing.
  6. Flowers is pretty sturdy defender back there. Isn't the catcher position pretty abysmal throughout baseball hitting wise? Somebody was touting McCann for the all star game and he's hitting .230 with a .289 on base percentage. Obviously I'm down on Flowers the hitter, but it's nice to have a guy with a good arm back there.
  7. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:30 PM) We need to capitalize on this deadline. Move Danks, Ramirez, Beckham and Tank. If the Sox have designs on contending in the next year or two, it would be smart to hold onto the Big Three of Sale, Q and Danks. Now they desperately need two standout righties to join them in the rotation. That's a pretty good group of lefties right there. I'd prefer to keep Lexi, but I agree it's time to see what you can get for Tank and Beckham. Semien allegedly has potential and could replace Beckham with no problem.
  8. Interesting article. Obama and the pigheads in Congress should be embarrassed they have been in charge during a horrific six year period in which just about every aspect of life in the United States of America has gone downhill FAST. It's very embarrassing for Obama, who seems to have washed his hands of it all. He basically has blamed the pigheads in Congress and is just playing out the string so to speak. Very sad. But King Obama, the man we'd elect again and again if we could, has been President during one of the darkest periods in U.S. history. The decline of a great great nation is sad to experience.
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) I would rather have Phegley, Nieto, or Smith then Buck or Flowers Me too, though it is nice to see our catcher throw guys out on the basepaths. Phegley can't throw anybody out, right?
  10. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) We get it, you hate Dunn. But as has been discussed elsewhere, there will be teams looking for a guy like Dunn.. Otherwise, as of right now there really isn't a replacement for Viciedo unless they throw Sierra out there everyday. Then who do they bring up? Regardless, I wouldn't mind seeing Dunn, Beckham, and Viciedo all dealt provided they can get back something decent for the future. I hope you are right about Dunn. Obviously I don't see it, but if Hahn can get a couple good pitchers from AA for him it would be the steal of the century. I'd be willing to bet some money no team in baseball wants him. If he wants to continue his career next year, he's going to be shocked at the $$s. I'd say he gets Jeff Francouer type money when the Royals had Francouer.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) If this was indeed premeditated, the parents knew exactly what the child was experiencing hour by hour that day. That level of depravity is beyond my comprehension. Awful. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 05:16 PM) Reading about this almost makes me physically ill. Horrific. Me too. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:55 PM) If this guy did it, I hope they have more evidence on him than Google searches. If so, he deserves a special kind of hell and everything the system can throw at him, but as damningly circumstantial as that is, I'd be uncomfortable finding guilt beyond a reasonable doubt based on only that. I would convict him in a second. The expert said the smell of death was so bad in the car when he was driving away there's no f***ing way he didn't know his son was in the car and at that point he was still pretending. This dad is an animal and I'd convict him on the google searches. At the very least, he better rot in prison at least the next 20 years on some charge, the quality years of his life better be spent in jail.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 06:55 PM) Who is the replacement for Viciedo? Danks until A. Garcia is ready, which could be soon. The team is going nowhere, so that's a viable replacement until Garcia is ready. Sox don't need Viciedo. Now is the time to dump him.
  13. I would rather have Flowers than Buck. By far. Acquiring Buck would be a horrific move as he's one of the worst hitters in baseball IMO.
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Quintana is the only trade legitimate trade chip that will bring back a significant amount of talent that can help in the near term. The Sox have consistently struggled to attract top tier talent in free agency, so if this team is going to improve it is going to need to be through the trade market. A deal with the Jays with Beckham for Sanchez, Norris and Pompey would be something to consider. Based on his age, contract status, and performance, he should have as much value as Smardzjia did in a deal. Your last sentence is just crazy IMO. Beckham is average at best. How can you overvalue Beckham like that? Just cause he was a top draft pick doesn't mean anybody values him. I can't imagine him bring much more than a Chris Getz type player cause he is a Chris Getz type player. OK he's a little better than Getz. This trade deadline, the Sox should dump Beckham, Viciedo and that's it (I'm assuming nobody will trade for Dunn). Get what you can for them. Why? Cause there are replacements for both.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 04:12 AM) You think the Sox would have had enough mediocre teams in the past that this wouldn't be rocket science...Seriously, do you watch baseball? Have you seen mediocre teams? Have you seen bad offenses get shut down by bad pitchers? Have you seen good offenses get shut down by bad pitchers? It's baseball man, today was 1/162. It's not that simple with this team.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 02:20 AM) Christianity in America is predominantly nonviolent. Yes, you can point to some wackos, but 99.9% are not. Religion promoting violence is an irrelevant argument here. And the benefit is not so much the belief in Christ, but a sense of group and community. You know your neighbors. You care about your neighbors. You grow up with the kids in the neighborhood. All positive things that are missing from the gang infested ghettos. You continue to state what I believe beautifully. Maybe I'm a bad writer, but you have captured the essence of what I believe.
  17. Whenever I hear about teams like the Sox losing money, I wonder about those articles that list the worth of the franchise and what it would cost if the Sox were for sale. It makes no sense that a team could lose money every year and be worth that kind of jack. I mean, I don't know the latest figure, but the Sox are allegedly, according to Forbes Mag, worth a fortune.
  18. How in the world are Carroll and Hector capable of this? These type of games, and Viciedo's performance on this road trip are times you think the Sox actually have a good managerial and coaching staff. WTF is with this team? Is it a good team or horses***? It never can completely make up its mind. You remember the pathetic sweep at Minnie, pathetic sweep at home against KC and performance vs. the Angels.
  19. Man, Viciedo and Dunn are hot. And they've been doing it against good teams that may want trade pieces. If ever they are tradeable, now is the time. Or is this the real Viciedo? If the past four games are the real Viciedo, he is Mini-Abreu. He has teased before. This is when you have to trust your scouts I guess. p.s. I haven't changed my position on Dunn. I still am of the opinion Sox get very very little in return if anything.
  20. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 02:26 AM) If Samardjiza and impeding contract situation can get the Cubs a top 10 prospect in baseball at a premium position, I think Hahn has to at least be curious about what Q could fetch with his team friendly contract. If Hahn was shopping Q then he'd certainly have been talking to the A's, right? I suspect we've seen the last of Beckham soon cause Semien can replace him. Shortstop will be more difficult. I have a sneaky feeling Jerry does not want any more 99-loss teams. At least with Becks there are replacements.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) I think his argument is that if the s***ty neighborhoods in Chicago that account for 95% (guesstimate) of the violent crime had some sort of culture or community of good, e.g. a church community, maybe the violence wouldn't be as bad as it is. I somewhat agree with him. The idea being that these neighborhoods are just lawless places with morally bankrupt people. Religion specifically isn't the answer, but some kind of community of people with some morals sure would help. I remember a CPD buddy of mine telling me that in these neighborhoods the kids know nothing of the real world. It's all about the street. They have no morals or ethics. They have nothing to live for. They're all certain they'll be dead before they are 25. And they live that way. He had one kid tell him once that he'd kill all the cops in Chicago if he could get away with it, but he knew he couldn't, so he doesn't try. How f***ed up do you have to be to TELL someone that? Thank you sir!! Somebody understands greg besides my momma.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) What is the obsession with ignoring 90% of every player's performance? Judge Dunn on what he's done at the plate, not one component. Dunn = .224/.365/.423 (119 wRC+) Does no team need a left-handed DH/emergency 1B that hits 19% better than league average? Idk, but that should be the question or argument, not "Dunn only has 12 homers." I realize Adam Dunn can draw a walk. I could say his lack of speed negates much when he does walk, but that would be controversial I'm sure. He's a power hitter who doesn't hit many home runs, that's my main comment. You guys with the advanced stats ... I love 'em (I realize Dunn draws walks) but I will repeat my mantra: How come when I watch a baseball game I sometimes see OBP included in the graphic but never, ever do the announcers comment on such stats?? The announcers tend to make more greg-like statements than using your guys' advanced numbers. Sometimes you act like I am in the 1 percent group when I'm not.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) I'd imagine the people of northern Nigeria wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. How can anybody dispute the Golden Rule being a bad thing?
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) Yes. Now let me ask you a simple question...what does religion have to do with that? I just stated AGAIN that it is a matter of negative s*** being the norm and cool and being accepted and anything positive like religion merely mocked. The basic tenets of religion - the Golden Rule - are ASSETS to society. Yet any mention of religion is scoffed at, mocked. Any mention of violence? Bring it on. Fine? People want violence and want to mock religion? Go for it.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) You complain about anything positive being "mocked" and then scoff at a 50% decrease in the murder rate. Most would consider that positive. You complain about our culture "now" being violent and negative and ignore the fact that the violence situation was vastly worse 20 years ago. A basic bit of thought would suggest that either your idea is wrong or that somehow we've become vastly less violent as a people in the last 20 years. You've got the stats. You are armed with them. Let me ask you a simple question: Does Chicago have a serious, severe problem with violence in neighborhoods right now?
