Should He or Shouldn't He ?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:43 AM) No HR Derby is stupid, pointless and it can't help Jose. It's meant to boost the morale of fans of last place teams like ours. Why not have some fun and make it the highlight of our pathetic season? It would be awesome if he competed. Why not? What could it hurt?

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 02:14 AM) Why do Hobby Lobby's employees have to give up their freedom of religion due to the beliefs of their management? Where is your respect for the actual people who work there? Why are their religious beliefs unimportant to you? What are you talking about? The people can still get their abortions. Unfortunately for them this particular employer doesn't want to pay for the four contraceptives.

7/1 Doubleheader vs Angels
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 03:56 AM) Noesi/Carroll= Angels have to be laughing how easy it was today. What a tough break having to pitch those two minor leaguers on the same day. It's almost like we conceded two games today. By my count, we've conceded three this year. Today and the day Leury had to pitch.

Reverse Racism?
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) Well what she did is a pretty minor offense. She put on lacrosse clothes and mocked the right wingers on her campus. She also said she recognizes that she hurt people's feelings and then voluntarily left her post. I fail to see the big deal here. Seems like another example of white folks wanting to feel like they too are oppressed. For some reason I just read the story and thought about the backlash that would happen if the races were reversed. This has to be the most pompous resignation line ever: "“I understand why I hurt people's feelings, but I didn't become president to make sure rich white guys had more representation on campus,” Peterson told BuzzFeed, which reported the story on Monday. “Let’s be honest. They're not the ones that feel uncomfortable here.” Peterson graduated from Lawrenceville, a private school near princeton, N.J., in June.

Reverse Racism?
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) I don't see your point, greg. It seems like they ran her out of town. She got her degree. She resigned her post as president in what appears to be about the calmest manner possible. Her statements throughout scream "me me me; I am great."

Reverse Racism?
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) Call it part of the reparations she's owed. I love the part where she blows off getting fired, just says she has to be herself. And she blows it off basically saying, 'hey that's what these white guys are; just pointing it out to you.' She wears the boots, the hockey stick, Yale shirt. I won't even list the things a white person might wear to stereotype blacks mockingly. Oh my gosh, just thinking about what would happen to that white kid if he/she did such a thing scares me. Poor kid would have to move to Canada. The media would attack that person to no end. This story ... well it won't be a story. period.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) Jenks, didn't you know that corporations exist at the whim of the State and that the money they make isn't theirs to keep and use but the government's to use for it's own purposes because THEY know how to spend (your) money better than you do, and that any bit of money they are allowed to keep they should be grateful for? Come on, get with the times! Government is getting bigger and bigger (obviously) and when one more liberal judge hits the Supreme Court, wow.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:29 PM) Because actual doctors say that's not how they work. The court seems to be OK with ruling for Hobby Lobby and its belief they do cause abortions. Because it's the law. If they don't want to comply with the law because they have a certain set of religious beliefs, they are free to either not incorporate for the legal protections or to not operate a business. Nobody has actually forced them to change their beliefs. The idea that paying for health insurance plans that include provisions for the insurance company to pay for contraceptives that your employees may or may not use is some gross infringement on your personal religious beliefs is a pretty ridiculous stretch anyway. You say "it's the law." Hobby Lobby just was backed by the highest court in the land. They are totally OBEYING the law here. You say it's a ridiculous stretch. That is offensive. The Hobby Lobby owners don't want to pay for this because of religious beliefs. Why can't we have our religious beliefs? It's no stretch. If I owned a company, I wouldn't want to pay for that, either. This is becoming borderline offensive to me. Why can't Hobby Lobby owners and thousands of gregs have religious beliefs that are respected? Freedom of Religion.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) I disagree about the sincerity regarding the practices of the owners of Hobby Lobby. They previously provided a plan that covered contraceptives they now object to, and they still provide employee matching and administration for a 401k plan that includes investment options for the companies that develop and make those contraceptives. They are sincere. The Catholic church has been talking about this kind of stuff a long time and asking people to take a stand and write letters to congress people, etc.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) they don't actually cause abortions Employee compensation is not a "free lunch," though Hobby Lobby will still be getting tax breaks for providing their employees with health benefits even though they don't meet the minimum legal requirements. These people should be getting contraceptive coverage offered as part of their health benefits compensation just like everybody else does regardless of what their boss's personal religious beliefs are. How do you know they don't cause abortions? Those 4 contraceptives? I can't believe your second paragraph. How can you be against freedom of religion in this case? Why should employers have to pay when it is DIRECTLY against their religious beliefs? And what do you mean they don't meet the minimum legal requirements, when the courts just said they don't have to pay for these things they don't believe in?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) I'm sure Greg would be happy to give up his religion if his employer wanted him to. What is so wrong with Hobby Lobby owner not wanting to pay for contraceptives that cause abortions when they are against abortion for religious reasons? Yes Catholic policy is against abortion. Yes there is freedom of religion in this country. Those people can still get those contraceptives, just have to find a way to pay for them. Sorry not everything is a free lunch around here. I find it funny how in America over the last 20 years it's OK to mock Catholics and OK to mock those who believe in God good luck to you trying to mock some other groups. it's pretty sad that believers can be mocked openly by people like Maher and the general public. Let's see him mock some other groups.

Reverse Racism?
So this student body president at a prep school, who is black, issues a bunch of stereotypes regarding whites and steps down as school president. She is unrepentant, basically saying, 'Hey, this is how all these white guys are.' Basically nobody will care. This story will have no legs. Can you imagine the Internet outcry if this president had been white issuing stereotypical and mean stuff about blacks? The kid would never work; the kid would pretty much be banished from society forever with threats, etc. Oprah and everybody would be after the guy and he'd be ostracized forever. This case ... yawn. https://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/blac...tml?cache=clear

QUOTE (MEANS @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) maybe some of us don't want "GOD" in our country I wish God could make a comeback. I don't know why people like Maher think it's so absurd that there is a higher power who created us. Are you atheists convinced we just popped onto this earth out of nowhere for no reason? Why can't there be a God who created everything? QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Businesses should have to abide by the generally applicable laws and regulations that apply to all businesses without being able to get around the law because of religious beliefs. It's called freedom of religion.

Should He or Shouldn't He ?
I wish he'd compete. As a fan I'd take my chances on him sucking the rest of the season. It will be the last truly fun event for the Sox all year, besides the game itself with Sale and Abreu.

7/1 Doubleheader vs Angels
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) Attendance so far this season 28. Chicago White Sox 793,806 (39 games)...20,354 average 1. Charlotte Knights 402,723...9,589 average 1. Birmingham Barons 260,734...6,518 average Man, pitching Noesi and Carroll against a good team ... some of those Angels hitterscould have a day. The Sox are in deep trouble in both games in a hitters park. How the heck does a big market team like Chicago find itself pitching two hacks like this in a home doubleheader? Ever heard of free agency? You must do better, Mr. Hahn and Kenny. We'd probably split with a good AAA team today pitching those two guys.

Like the loudmouth O'Reilly said tonight, it is scary that four members of the court ruled against Hobby Lobby here. It's very scary four people though it was OK for Hobby Lobby owners to go against their religion to provide this FREE service. God help our country as we move on.

Houston Astros' Internal Trade Talks
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 04:16 AM) Have you seen him lately? He's fat right now, which is what I said. There's a lot more to relying speed than infield hits. He doesn't have much power which is reflected in his slugging percentage. His game doesn't match his body and most likely never will. His bust potential is extremely high and IMO, his ceiling is limited. Fat. No patience. Not enough power. What am I missing here? Is he really fat? If so that's demoralizing. If not WTF?

Why can't Dayan hit at home?
I'm no hitting coach, but it's pretty obvious he tries to blast the ball as far as he can every time to the plate. He never adjusts to the count. He swings as hard as he can and has connected only nine times. He'll probably wind up with 18-20 homers and hit .240. That's not very valuable. Get rid of him.

QUOTE (Tmar @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Cheering is fine, but standing ovations are a whole other thing, they are for special or memorable events. Mariano Rivera after a HoF career? Standing O. Cal Ripken playing in 2131 straight games? Standing O. But coming back from a boo boo of your hamstring? Go ahead and cheer but no way a standing ovation. That's like a standing o for hitting a home run in the third inning, nothing special about that. I think it's a class act. They can stand and cheer all they want for their players. I'm sure the little kids there were enjoying it. If I wanted to be negative about it, I'd say fans pay their 70 bucks a ticket and 25 for parking. They can do whatever the f*** they want as long as it's legal.

I don't know how players hit into these shifts all the time. You have to change your approach.

At least Tyler gets a hit every once in a while. Career backup? Earning a check for many years or DFAed before long?

QUOTE (Tmar @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 08:25 PM) No sir I'm not, the guy missed 6 games with a muscle strain, pretty common injury. I'd get it if he was hit in the head and missed weeks or underwent treatment for a disease or something, but a muscle strain? But it's OK to boo a player at any time, not cheer one. Cheering one is lame or corny? I guess negativity sells nowadays.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 29, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) Toronto loves their baseball players I guess I hope they let Mark face one batter so they can give him the ovation he deserves today. I guess they can cheer after the half inning but we won't see it on TV.
