Return for Dunn
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 02:19 AM) Heard on the radio today that Dunn has not driven in a run since June 18. The end is near. He's done. Whatever team signs him next year is foolish. At this point, he deserves about 2 million a year. The guy is a power hitter who can't hit home runs.

All-Star Selection Show Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 12:30 AM) In before Greg uses this as proof that Sale isn't an ace but Mark is. I wouldn't tie Mark's making it as a negative. Both should have made it. Buehrle defines 'all star' and deserves it. Obviously Sale deserves it too. He better win that contest to get on the team. If the AL wants to win, he should be on the team.

GAME THREAD 7/6 - SEA @ SOX
QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Way to suck at life, Dayan Viciedo. This team sucks. Trade everyone except for Sale and Abreu and I don't know, maybe somebody else. You could keep Eaton and some of the starting pitchers. Keep A. Garcia til we see if he's anything special.

Hawk is being a male b**** today. Acts like he knows it all compared to Stoney.

GAME THREAD 7/6 - SEA @ SOX
At least Tank made contact with 2 strikes. Wow LaMarr Hoyt. Should have pitched decisive game five on a Sunday, but nooo. The Dybber struck his evil baserunning magic.

GAME THREAD 7/6 - SEA @ SOX
If Hector is this good, it begs the question: Why are the Sox no good? Sox have four good starters if Hector is good.

Jesus of Siberia
Supposedly the government may eventually break up the cult. Maybe that's why they have to make sure they don't make any waves. If they go in and bust it up, it'd be interesting to see what happens with Jesus of Siberia. Does he just burn the white robe and apply for jobs as a cop again? To his followers say, "Oh well, that was a good run. See you all later."

GAME THREAD 7/6 - SEA @ SOX
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Beckham seems to forget that right field is in play. He's pulling everything. Is he stubborn? Dumb? He seems to have some tools. I wonder if he's uncoachable cause he defines mediocre.

Return for Dunn
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) Yes. Dunn will get you a decent prospect in return if you eat the contract. I'm guessing the Sox will deal him for for two high upside types in A ball that are in the teens of someone's system and take the salary relief though. Dunn can help a playoff contender. Not sure why people think he can't. We know they aren't going to eat the contract. What does he make the second half of his final season anyway? 10 million? No team is going to pay that for Mr. Whiff. He's not the kind of guy a team needs. If a team is a contender by now, they probably have somebody way better than Dunn.

Teams Interested in Viciedo
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 06:22 PM) K , so Dunn's a free agent and Viciedo is supposedly going to be traded for a pile of horse manure. So the Sox lose their 2nd and 3rd best power hitters leaving Jose ABreu to out-homer the rest of the team combined ? Hell yea lets put all the pressure on Abreu to carry the team and rely on a bunch of .250 hitters who can't get on base to score runs. Without HR's the Sox will be so so bad. I hope all you folks advocating a powerless team have a plan because it's real easy to say who to get rid of. Use all those fancy stats to come up with more than who to get rid of. Good point about the HRs. Sox need them. But the Sox are already bad. It's a last-place team two years in a row. And Viciedo and Dunn don't have that many homers. I guess about 10 apiece. Yeah, that's 15 more than a guy like Danks will hit but they are not producing. I think we all still have hopes for Viciedo, but if he won't change his approach, just like the Royals' Hosmer won't (swinging as hard as he can every pitch) what can the Sox do but let him go? I can stomach more of Viciedo if I have to cause he's had some monster games like the 4-or-4 and I think he's had one or two three-hit games. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) At the end of the day, I think it's going to be difficult to find the proper return for Viciedo. He's likely going to be a mediocre hitter the rest of his career who always flashes with his talent. His upside and talent that shows like an Encarnacion or Beltre is always going to get him chances and give the team who has him under contract optimism for the future, thus possibly overvaluing him. The thing is, Dayan Viciedo is the exact type of player people want to acquire during rebuilds. See if the guy can put it together and if not, you have others coming up in the minors. We're sick of him as Sox fans because we've seen him for years and years, but how many Rangers fans were tired of Chris Davis murdering AAA and coming up and failing? How about the Reds with Encarnacion? It's not the worst thing to not get a return on someone via trade. Frankly, the same thing goes for Beckham too with the caveat that the Sox have middle infield depth and Beckham is a free agent after next season. So, no,I don't think they should trade him unless they get a big enough offer, which I don't foresee happening. Thing is, he had a good series vs. Seattle and supposedly they want him. So I was thinking we could get Seattle to overpay. If so, trade him. If he stays, try to get Abreu to get him to listen to the hitting coach and make some adjustments. He has the power to hit to all fields if he'd just shorten his swing and do it.

Bless our Veterans, WTF is Wrong with America??
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 07:13 AM) Im actually in California right now because my dad, who is a Vietnam vet, had been going to the VA out here for months complaining of stomach pains amongst other things and was continually either rescheduled or just had basic tests run on him where they told him he was ok and was probably dehydrated and on Thursday the pain got so bad he called 911 and was taken to a different hospital where they relatively quickly found a golf ball sized tumor in his colon. The surgery to remove it seems to have gone well and were still awaiting the results of the biopsy but it was pretty infuriating to know that the VA essentially hung him out to dry and had he not called 911 he probably would have died waiting for the VA to diagnose and treat him. It gets to the point where they might be better served recommending people go to a regular doctor/hospital to get diagnosed and then returning to the VA or something for the treatment. I dont know if thats even feasible but they need to do something. I probably would never even have given this issue a second thought before this experience but its been a real eye opener. Thanks for sharing this story. Best wishes.

Jesus of Siberia
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:21 PM) Well, other than the fact that this guy isn't eligible to run for the presidency in the U.S., that would be tough. Maybe he's writing an anti-Hilary screed? Sounds more like David Koresh mixed with the Manson Family and Unabomber, with a little Ken Kesey thrown in for good measure. Great last sentence. Vissarion appears to be very 'gentle.' His talks to the people are in hushed tones. I did read something about his traveling to Italy and a few other places the past few years to "recruit members." So maybe he is doing some of the lavish thing on the side. But there's no money so I don't know where he'd get money to travel. I did read a line somewhere about people giving up their life savings when they arrive so maybe he gets that. There's not a lot of info written in English on the guy. My take is the sex thing. Surely he can have sex with any of the women he wants since he is the fake Jesus.

Sea Men @ Pale Hose 1:10 July 5th
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 12:19 AM) You know what, Greg? You're right. I don't know how I didn't see this before. Sometimes I confuse Rock and Dick Allen. I think Rock's position is the one in which it's mainly the horrific roster being the problem, not so much Robin.

Samardzija/Hammel Traded to A's
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Man, you do not get this. I love this trade for the Cubs as Samardzija was gone anyway. 0% chance he was staying. Cubs get a top prospect in return AND another good A's prospect. The downside? Still 0 pitching. And the Sox are doing a combination of what the Cubs are doing - trying to acquire good prospects - and getting MLB talent like Avi, Eaton, and Abreu. Toss in the fact that the Sox have two pillars in the rotation (Sale and Q) signed cheaply, just drafted one of the most vaunted college pitchers of all time, and I'll still take what the Sox are doing. The Cubs are going "all in" on prospects. Sox aren't. I'd hate if we tried to go all in on prospects, ESPECIALLY hitting prospects. I didn't know you wanted balance. I thought you were one of the 'all in' prospects guys. My bad. I do think a lot of people on this board are 'all in' prospects guys and would be thrilled if we were doing what the Cubs are doing. I'm a free agent guy myself. Just NOT free agents like Dunn. Geez he had a lousy Sox tenure.

Attendance
The crowd looked smallish on mlb today.

Sea Men @ Pale Hose 1:10 July 5th
Let's face it. Rock is primarily right concerning Robin. This is more on Kenny and Hahn somewhat. Robin's roster is so bad no manager would have any better record than Robin's that is for sure. Pretty much all the relievers are equally horrific when trying to save a game. I may think Robin is a clown, as well, but his record this year speaks for itself. Not bad for the roster.

Teams Interested in Viciedo
Even though Viciedo may be creeping closer to league average, it's apparent he's just not very good. Trade him to the M's after this series in which he's actually hit pretty well and try to rob them while we are at it. He hit the ball this series. M's have to be intrigued. Make them overpay and get rid of Dayan.

Sea Men @ Pale Hose 1:10 July 5th
Pathetic loss. Sox take 2-0 lead and can't hold it. Pity those fans who had to watch the five extra innings of pathetic non hitting.
-
Sea Men @ Pale Hose 1:10 July 5th
I'm done. Wasted too much time here. Hopefully Sox can somehow win this game. Four hits in 14 innings is crap.

Sea Men @ Pale Hose 1:10 July 5th
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) I would love it if they just went in another direction and gave Nieto/Phegley more ABs after July. There's no way they can still believe he's their guy. Yeah by now Flowers has to be considered a bust. Your suggestion is what they should do IMO.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) That play wasn't exactly a gold glove caliber one. I wanted Abreu to make a similar play on the one to him.
