  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:58 PM) There was a JR interview saying that Hahn will have the resources in the winter to acquire a starter and bullpen help. JR specifically said everyone knows we need another starter and some bullpen help I'm hoping for Shields, Crain and Miller. Shields is like peavy -- streaky n overrated
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) JJ Stankevitz ‏@JJStankevitz 2m Gordon Beckham was hitting .298 on June 10. Since: .161/.209/.293 (.503 OPS) in 192 PAs. 0-2 today. #WhiteSox Sickening but predictable. He's a lousy hitter, rarely decides to hit it to right or up the middle. Just swings thru it and/or pops it up or weak grounders. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) They still have a chance in this game, but this is the flattest the team has been maybe all season. They've been flat on weekend games a lot. I remember getting mad on many Saturdays and Sundays before turning it off.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) I miss Paciorek They should bring him back next season. I guess nobody is going anywhere, though. Hawk will do it until he dies; ditto Farmer. DJ seems to have survived and is a fixture forever as well. That leaves Stone. He could always get bored with the day to day grind I suppose.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) I don't know. He has made some pretty good plays over there. Is our star AAA prospect better in the field? He has made some great plays. Other times he's pretty bad over there. I think overall he's a below average third baseman defensively. Like I said, though, the Sox probably will just have to live with it since he's a good line drive hitter.
  5. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 12:21 PM) If he cannot come in at home to start the 8th w a 2 run lead, why the hell is he on the roster???? You should be pointing the finger at Hahn for having him on the roster. Exactly. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) I just can't be mad at bullpen usage anymore. They are all suspect, there is very rarely one better move than another, and it all seems to blow up in Robins face. When you add in how terrible the defense is, it is just a recipe for disaster at the end of every game Exactly.
  6. Looks like the bad Sox may be the team that shows up today. Hope their pitcher is as rusty as Q after the rain delay. That blown DP is huge, woulda bailed out Q in the first.
  7. Sox are going to have to live with Gillaspie's defense or move him to a new position eventually.
  8. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) Greg has two qualifications for whether a player is great or horses***. 1: Were they on the 2005 White Sox? If yes, the player is great and will always be great and should be re-signed and given whatever amount of money for however many years they want. If they were not, they are horses***. 2: Are they a current Kansas City Royals player. If yes, the player is great and the Sox should trade for or sign him as a FA no matter the cost and comp picks attached. If the player does join the Sox, the player no longer meets one of the two qualifications and instantly becomes horses***. There are obvious exceptions to every rule, but this is my general thoughts about Greg's player evaluation from the years I've been on this board. I don't know where you got the Royals part of this equation. I'm sure some board regulars would back me up in that I despise the Royals players and do not want them on the Sox. The only Royals I might want on the Sox are Perez, obviously, plus Holland and I guess Shields, though Shields is overrated right now IMO. I don't want Butler, don't want Moose, or Hosmer, etc. I don't want any of their starters except Ventura. Seriously, how did you miss so badly on part two of your two part answer? I do love the 2005 Sox, but that's not a fair assertion either. As far as Webb, the stats you guys provided me show me promise, thank goodness. I do think he's been a flameout in games that have been close this year. He's failed a ton of times. If he has potential, great, I could be mistaken. He's angered/saddened me many times this year, though.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 03:50 AM) Wasn't referring to you. I was talking about the average person who isn't on a Sox message board and just looks at the stats in the paper, etc. No problem. This current bullpen blows so bad it freaks me out. I know Hahn was counting on Nate Jones and Lindstrom, but like you wrote, Lindstrom wasn't all that. And I never liked Nate. Webb has been miserable. I just feel Reed was better than average at closing out games and Hahn doesn't take enough crap for some of his bad moves. This one right now has hurt this year's team. Somebody will probably find an advanced stat to say our record would only be a couple games better with a good bullpen. I say b.s. to that. Anybody with eyes can see the bullpen has been total buzzkill, wrecking a possible WC season. Just my two cents.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) He's also choking up on the bat ever so slightly when he gets to 2 strikes. Good for him, if he's doing that. He's the kind of hitter who needs the advice of a hitting coach. Hopefully he's listening to the Sox instructor and that's the reason for his current success. I have no problems with Flowers right now. He'll probably go 0-for-September and finish with a .220 average and people (me and others) will think he's the worst thing ever, but right now he's the least of the Sox problems.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:54 AM) I can't imagine what the meathead, casual fan thinks of the Reed for Davidson trade when all they do is look at Reed's save total and Davidson's .198 average in AAA. Me and the guy on All in The Family. We "meatheads." Of course I hate the trade. The Sox truly could use Reed. And Davidson is horrid and the Sox have gotten a great year out of another 3B, Gillaspie, who looks like Wade Boggs, Jr. If Gillaspie could develop some power to go with the liners, he'd be quite a story. Why are we meatheads for HATING that trade? QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 02:15 AM) Hahn needs to put bellyflop on waivers right now..... Best post of thread. It's DFA time again for a member of the White Sox. Shelve him like Downs.
  12. Sad to see an exciting comeback like that wasted because of Hahn's horrid bullpen. That's the kind of game a .500 team wins at home. You come back and grab the lead, then you finish the deal. Sox can't finish s*** this year cause of the stiffs in the bullpen. Sad. Kudos to Beckham for a nice offensive game. Occasionally he does things the right way like going to right field and guess what Gordon? It works. He just doesn't do that near enough. Ditto Tank. Both need to get a fricking clue cause they both have talent. Horrific defeat against a lousy team, though. Sox bullpen hacks wasted a helluva comeback tonight.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) Butler is gone. But do we really need another bases-clogging RH hitter? If we can get him for $6-8 million per year and control his rights for at least 2 years, then maybe. But a one year deal and then losing him to FA doesn't help the Sox at all, since he wouldn't be around in 2016. Butler is done. Age hit him and he has no HR power and like you said is very slow. And if he's only 6-8 million, he'll stay in KC for that.
  14. QUOTE (1dog @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 05:37 AM) I'll buy him a beer, he saved me like 1k for not allowing that wild pitch to get past and for the runner to score to make it 10-9. I stupidly bet sox runline. Woohoo Nice job.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 04:58 AM) Petricka found the fastball there! Nice win, great to see the offense show up. The presence of Abreu usually eliminates corpseball. He's contagious (except for Gordon).
  16. Great win. Abreu the newcomer, Paulie the oldie but goodie and Flowers the guy who ain't dead yet, pleased me tonight.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 04:54 AM) One more out to go. Best defense is strike 1. Then strike 2. Arcia the batter. Ain't it the truth.
  18. Crowd into it. Nice pitch on the inside corner. Two out.
  19. This lefty scares me. Double to corner coming? Throw that pitch again, baby.
  20. There's no way in hell Petricka gets the save after this beginning. Bring in somebody else.
  21. Ridiculous. All those runs by the Sox and Twins come right back? Get him out of there. Can Quintana pitch now?? Half kidding.
