  1. QUOTE (beautox @ May 21, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) Exactly, with so much parity across the AL especially in the east; Dunn's services will be highly sought after during the trade deadline. I would expect to get a couple of B level prospects back. Outside of BOS, DET, TOR nearly every team in the hunt for the post season could use and upgrade at DH. Guys, are we really to the point thinking we can get anything for Adam Dunn? I guess a couple of fringe prospects 'might' be reasonable but I still can't imagine any team wanting Dunn to do anything except pinch hit. His track record in the AL has been that bad. Maybe the NL.
  2. Can Dunn make contact against Guthrie? I'll go with Dunn.
  3. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 21, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) On paper, bet the under and the Royals. Odds are Sox will not sweep this series. It'd be nice to get seven out of Q and score a few runs off Sox killer Guthrie.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2014 -> 08:47 PM) Wait until they resign him to a one year, seven million dollar deal. Ah, we're not going to have to worry about that. He can go sign with Minnesota or somebody for one year at a time.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2014 -> 06:22 AM) Royals' fans must be out on the cliffs of the Missouri River right now. Losing to a White Sox team without Sale, Abreu and a closer? Twice in a row, at home? That last pitch of the game was awesome. Cain had no chance. Man, what a pitch. As far as KC fans and KC vs. Chicago ... ha, now that the Royals are expected to beat us, it's harder. Just like when the Sox over and over got owned by an inferior KC team. Funny but I'll take it. Great win. Figured KC would rally with the Sox bullpen being what it is, but enough good pitches to win it.
  6. It's refreshing that so many fans on here see the Sox as WC contenders all year. I just don't see it at all with the injuries as well as a few too many lousy players (pitchers). I'd be all for a shot at the wild card, but I'm thinking by June 10 we'll be pretty much buried. Hope I'm wrong.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 20, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t&p=2980861 Can anybody loan greg some money? He may be a bit short this morning. If u guys had bet the over like I said, you'd have not had to sweat it out at all and made some cash.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 20, 2014 -> 05:10 AM) greg, you are no longer my financial advisor. You have led me to financial ruin I was right about the over. I should have just said bet the over.
  9. The pickoff by Petricka was huge, not to mention the home run by Paulie. After the bunt and the injury it certainly looked bleak. Royals fans are furious. They are blaming Yost for taking out Aoki for Dyson on the basepaths. I don't see how Yost can ever trust Dyson again after the blunder which definitely cost KC the game. Great win. Definitely helps make up for some of the lousy losses Sox have had in Kauffman past few years. Paulie's home run was pretty damn impressive. To center in a pitcher's park. He isn't finished yet. He has two home runs; Dunn six. Dunn has double the at bats. I won't be negative tonight, though. Great comeback win. p.s. There's really no reason to pitch Carroll again. Got to try somebody else. He's not MLB caliber.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) We actually had that discussion here this offseason and it seems like that is still the current thinking. Awesome. Bill hasn't changed his position.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 19, 2014 -> 09:02 PM) As a GM, Bill James has won the same number of pennants as Billy Beane. Bill James is a cult icon, though. And he's a bigger guy, not a hunk to the women like Redford. But James is very interesting guy. For instance he used to preach (don't know if he still does) that you don't need to 'protect' sluggers in the lineup. He said it matter not if the guy hitting behind you sucks. That it still doesn't affect the pitches you get and how you perform. Not sure if he's changed his position on that.
  12. If Lexi keeps hitting like this I could see someone biting on him and maybe sending us a couple good prospects. I seem to devalue our current team more than many of you. I think we are going to be buried pretty darn soon. So that would mean trying to rob a team and WIN THE TRADE big time for Lexi. Maybe acquire a GOOD infield prospect and two lower level pitchers for Lexi. If he keeps hitting like this, he has value to a contender as he's a good enough fielder.
  13. Did you guys know the king of advanced stats, Bill James, lives in Lawrence? Saw him at a funeral of an old sports writer recently. Bill is a loyal guy, he respects the local sports rag and the local writers and is really an interesting story. He probably would have made a better movie than Billy Beane.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) We lost a couple games in Houston but it's too early for trade talk. What if we are in the hunt for a wild card spot? That's not going to happen. You can't win with this (injured) roster and this pitching staff. This team is not built to win right now mainly because of injuries to go with some guys who have no business being in the big leagues. As far as trades ... I stand by my prediction Dunn will not be moved because no contender will want him. Maybe an NL team will want a pinch hitter like the Phils did with Thome that one year (or was it the Dodgers I forget?) but aside from an NL team wanting a pinch hitter nobody will want him. Lindstrom, Downs and DeAza should be dealt, but nobody will want them as well. I think somebody will take a chance on Beckham and he'll be dealt for a couple minor leaguers.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 19, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) It isnt that unique of a feat Taking strike three four straight times? It seems pretty feeble to me and pretty unique, but I have no stats to back it up how many times that happens in one season. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 19, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Enough already and feeling sorry for ourselves. It was only one game. Let's see how Danks bounces back Tonight should be a blowout loss. Go to Vegas and bet KC and the over in a gift parlay. Royals' bats are allegedly heating up and we are pitching a AAA pitcher. That's just my opinion, obviously something could happen positive regarding Carroll.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 18, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) Ah yes, because high school hitters are also a lock. And what the f*** is it with you and calling people [word]nicks? Statnick, draftnick. I shall call you Gregnick. Draftnick is just a way to say/write it quickly. There's no known word for somebody who roots for their team to lose to get the best draft position. Not meant to be derogatory. The people that do it freely admit to it so they don't mind getting labeled I wouldn't think.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) Dunn struck out looking 4 times today. Good game, good effort. It's beyond depressing watching Konerko try to hit RHP. Dunn should be proud. That's quite a feat. Surely that hasn't been done many times in baseball history. I mean at some point you take a weak swing at least on strike three.
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 18, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) Danks troubles are really beginning to weigh on many of us. But, at the time of that big contract how many of us were in favor of his contract? I was I know that. At the same time so many were willing to write off Buerhle and his contract and say good riddance to him. I wasn't. I know hindsight is 20/20 and you can't predict an injury, but has Mark B ever been injured? The guy pitched two no-hitters and the Sox management let him go. John Danks is relying on that changeup way to much now and hits like 89 tops usually. I hope he can build up his arm strength as it looks like we probably have him for the duration of that contract. I say this realizing it's only one game right now but he certainly struggles People if they'd use their brains would realize Buehrle is one of those Jamie Moyer types that will pitch forever (if he wants to). His style of pitching pretty much guaranteed that he was far from finished.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) If he goes down with TJS, kiss rebuilding goodbye given how bad the pitching in the farm system is. As much as I love Ozzie and think Robin is blah, he probably is manager of the year if he can make this crew go .500. Lots of injuries/lots of bad pitchers on this team.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) Hahn has an incredibly tough job of fixing this rotation the next few years. It's Sale, Quintana and then a ton of mediocrity. It's possible the rebuild takes a year longer than they thought due to all the flops in the pitching staff this year. Sale, bless him and his ability, is a huge question mark regarding health in the future. Doesn't everybody agree on that at least?
  21. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 18, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) Glad we are on the hook for a BP pitcher, at double digit millions per season. Once these guys get hurt it's all over. But the Sox let a guy like Buehrle walk when we pay some of these other guys who are unreliable. Really smart, White Sox.
  22. QUOTE (gosox41 @ May 17, 2014 -> 04:36 AM) I want a player with big upside. What about the C/OF the Cubs may take at 4. The best all around hitter in the draft. While I want the Sox to get pitching (Rodon) I am wary of taking a HS pitcher in the first round. Bob Exactly. In this day and age, how big of a crapshoot is it taking a high school pitcher? If we don't take a college pitcher or position player, the people rooting for losses the second half of last season may look rather silly. I'm not a draftnick so I have no opinion except to say I'd prefer a clone of Salvador Perez if a stud catcher is out there.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 17, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Do we have an easier schedule? The AL Central is the best division in the AL right now, based on interleague and interdivisional play. Those Western teams get to load up on the Astros. The Sox got owned by Houston last year and are not exactly running away with this series.
  24. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 17, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) Verlander and Scherzer have 9 starts after their game last night. Quintana has 9 and Danks makes his 9th tomorrrow. If Sale was healthy he would already have 9. Their 5 less games results in one turn of the rotation .Scherzer dominated Boston last night. Detroit has already put the Sox away. We aren't making up 10 games in the loss column on Detroit. So the only hope is hanging around the wildcard situation.
  25. Look at the last five years and all the plate appearances Beckham has had ... 430, 498, 557, 582, 408. Has a guy ever been that "average" to poor and become a stud in baseball after 5 years of ordinary-ness at best? Just wondering. My guess is Beckham is who he is. A run of the mill second baseman who will play as long as Mark Grudzalanek did with a lot of one-year minimum wage contracts. He's just another guy, folks.
