QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 6, 2014 -> 01:43 AM) Man I don't get Beckham in the 2 hole getting all these at bats. The guy is a scrub through and through. He's a pathetic hitter. Wonder why he's such a bust. Sox brass just has to suck it up and get rid of him after this season. He's not going to suddenly be a star. He's too old for that. He is what he is (sick cliche I know).
-
Should DeAza be in the big leagues? He's pretty lousy.
-
Hawks up 2-0 in series. Do you think the competition is weak this year and Hawks are guaranteed a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals? What you think? I was quite glad we got Minnesota in Round Two. Figured we'd beat them. Up 2-0 things looking pretty nice.

You can't play Adam Dunn in left field, you just can't. He's a big ox, with all due respect.

QUOTE (LDF @ May 5, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) even thou it has been mention, I will do it again, prices of are just too much to go to a game. late 70's and in the 80's, prices was better suited for everybody, including the teen ager. those teens grew up and became fans and bought season tickets and of course with their family, it became an outing at the ballpark. now why go when we can catch the game at home, via/tv/cable/satellite/internet. what surprise me was the stats on the cubs.... if they are hurting..... Exactly, teenagers could and would go to the games. I know you can find deals for Sox games but tickets are so out of whack and parking as well, that baseball is pretty much considered a once-a-summer option for most people, like a trip to Six Flags. Baseball is just not considered an option for the normal folk (for the most part). I told u all I went to a Royals game last year and bought a burger, fries and coke for 18 bucks. Give me a break. It's insulting. I know it's like that at the movie theatre as well but it's well documented how expensive a ballgame is so people don't go. Also the product is very s***ty on the south side. The north side at least has the alleged landmark. As far as parking, the Royals fans I know all meet at a nearby shopping center and all hop in a car and drive over together to save the money. Parking costs are f***ing ridiculous but hey, they got to pay $4 million for stiffs like Keppinger and a gazillion for busts like Dunn somehow.

I realize some baseball broadcasts show on base percentage somewhere on the screen when a batter steps to the plate, but broadcast teams do not discuss anything but the age-old batting average, home runs and RBIs during their broadcasts. Why is this? Today the Royals announcers were going through a discussion of KC hitters. Only thing they talked about was batting average. If advanced statistics are the future and were chronicled so heavily in Moneyball, why don't announcers discuss them? For hitters, it's batting average, HR, RBI; for pitchers it's still wins, losses and ERA and pitch count. No discussion of Sabes. No discussion EVER of on base percentage and things like that. It's crazy.

QUOTE (lord chas @ May 5, 2014 -> 01:13 AM) I expect that some sort of pitch clock will be put in soon. Games just drag too long It's too expensive to go to a ballgame. There, I said it again. Yes, I know, if you bring your own peanuts and water and stay away from the concession stand it's fine. And I know it's expensive to go to a movie. But for the regular Joe and Jane and their two kids, Jack and Jill, it's too expensive. You can always watch it on TV. I'm glad baseball is being embarrassed by attendance problems. It's just ridiculous what it costs to park a vehicle for a fricking meaningless baseball game.

Moises Sierra claimed, added to 25 man roster
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) WHITE SOX MAKE THREE ROSTER MOVES FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sunday, May 4, 2014 CLEVELAND – Prior to today's game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox added outfielder Moises Sierra to the active roster and sent third baseman Conor Gillaspie to Class AAA Charlotte on an injury rehabilitation assignment. Sierra, 25, was claimed off waivers from Toronto on Saturday and takes the roster spot of left-handed pitcher Frank De Los Santos, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night's game against the Indians. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Sierra was designated for assignment on May 1 after going 2-34 (.059) in 34 games with the Blue Jays this season. He batted .290 (31-107) with 13 RBI and 11 runs scored in 35 games with Toronto in 2013, including a .317 (26-82) average with 12 doubles and 11 RBI in September. Sierra ranked among the AL September leaders in doubles (3rd), extra-base hits (T4th, 14), slugging percentage (8th, .524) and on-base percentage (9th, .385). Sierra is a career .229 hitter (66-288) with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 97 games over three seasons with Toronto (2012-14). He will wear uniform No. 25. Gillaspie, 26, has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 26 (retro to April 22) with a left hand contusion. He is batting .302 (19-63) with 12 RBI and eight runs scored in 16 games with the White Sox this season. Sierra sounds like a Dwyane Wise clone. Is that a fair description? -
If we traded for a stud RH starter this year who would it be?
greg775 replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 4, 2014 -> 09:58 PM) Point remains, McCarthy is a good starter, why would they want our crap Then give 'em Beckham and a prospect. They are in last place. -
QUOTE (flavum @ May 4, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) Now...will Jordan Danks be on the plane back to Chicago? DeAza's not hitting over .200 either. As far as the game, wow, the bullpen was good. Crucial homer by Viciedo. That would have been a sorry, depressing sweep. Big home run to salvage one game. And we got the save as well. Lindstrom could have given it right back. That's what would have happened last year.

I still say we should trade Beckham for Brandon McCarthy. If they want more, throw Kepp in as well. -
QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 4, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) Viciedo needs to get through his thick head to stay short and quick, it will fly like it just did. If he gets that through his head he'll have good at bats Wordly abruptly, but that is a key. He has some talent. Hopefully the addition of Abreu will help him a lot.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 4, 2014 -> 01:59 AM) Take out Abreu it's the worst team in mlb on paper I would guess. Yes, the losses will likely start piling up in a hurry. April was magical and we still were no better than .500. Subtract a few players ... it's looking Astro and Cub-like.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2014 -> 03:04 AM) Why would the worst team in baseball want either of those guys, especially Keppinger? To get rid of 0-5 McCarthy.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2014 -> 12:46 AM) Outside of Abreu, this is basically the same offense the Sox had the last two months of last season. Boy we are starting to stink. Here's a trade I thought of today: Keppinger or Beckham, either one, for Brandon McCarthy. Coop can fix McCarthy.

Hammy injuries are not good. They can return year after year after year. Just ask Lorenzo Cain.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:07 PM) They don't appear to have anyone on the horizon who can play SS as well as he can for the next four years. Semien projects to be more of a 2B and the younger guys in the minors haven't proved a thing and aren't regarded as can't miss prospects. Unless you are blown away with a ridiculous offer, you keep Alexei until you are sure you have a replacement that can step in and play and produce as well as him. That's what I was thinking. It would be pretty scare to let L. Garcia or somebody play short and hit .095. We have a weird team of young guys and veterans both.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 3, 2014 -> 04:29 AM) The Cubs are just a team on the schedule. The word "rivalry" shouldn't exist in baseball. It's Chicago vs. Chicago. What are you talking about? Why shouldn't it be a rivalry? Sports are supposed to be fun and these games should mean a lot to competitors. I realize most of the big leaguers could give a s***, though. They are too busy counting their money and checking their investments.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) Remember when the Cubs series actually mattered? Years ago I would have been pissed that Noesi is starting. Now? Whatever. With all do respect, I hope you are only speaking for yourself. It matters to me. I hate just giving the Cubs a game.

Man, it seems all we do is play Central Division teams. This team is starting to trend downward. I don't blame them if they are bored playing the Central so much. I just have a sneaky feeling this ain't gonna be a good month. Somehow Detroit is already 7 ahead of the sox in the loss column. This is trending downward. Not good.

Keppinger and Paulino starting rehab assignments
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As bad as Kepp is, and he's very bad, Paulino is in a different realm. Please do not let Paulino have ANY ROLE on the big league club except as a mop up guy when we're down 8-0 in the fourth. -
There must be a formula to winning fantasy baseball but I haven't figured it out yet. My office team is in last place again. Can't quite figure out baseball, how to build a winning team.
-
This Detroit domination thing is growing old. Are they going to win our division 18 years in a row or whatever the Braves did to their division in that one streak? It's really disgusting a city like fricking Detroit has built a team good enough to win this thing year after year. They are already six in the loss column ahead of the Sox with a very flawed team, which is not good. It's about over, in fact, where everybody will be rooting for our draft pick again.Six in the loss column is getting up there.
-
Didn't watch today's game. Sounds like one of last year's results though. Last night's game woulda been nice to steal. Sad to get owned by Detroit two straight.

Is Adam Dunn necessarily a goner after this year?
greg775 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What about Billy Butler for DH. If he continues this lousy year, sign him 3 years 8 million a year. Have Butler DH and Abreu remain at first. He has a 12.5 million club option for next year which the Royals are too cheap to match.
