  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 03:50 AM) If Marcus did that on his own he needs to sit a few days. I agree. The bunt just didn't feel right there. Not with a team scoring runs at this rate in April. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 03:50 AM) Robin strikes again. Even if Semien got that bunt down, ADA had a horrible jump off of 3rd. Over managing. One run is kind of silly anyway with our bullpen. You'd think it would make Robin forget about squeezes in a 3-3 game with just one out. Plus what if Mr. Clutch Semien had delivered again?
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 03:48 AM) Not sure if that was Robin's or Marcus' call on the bunt but that killed the ab. Like you and fathom said we were dead when Verlander got the second strike on a stupid bunt try.
  3. That sucked in a lot of ways. Cmon Eaton.
  4. Ugg ... no bunting with this team that has been hot at the plate. Squeeze was dumb. Wasted strike.
  5. Some of those Verlander pitches look like cookies: (first one to Marcus)
  6. Good at bat by Flowers. No grounder, Marcus.
  7. That was exciting. Man DeAza took a wide turn at second. Good job DeAza!
  8. Not the best at bat by Lexi. Had a couple hittable fastballs. Waved at the curve.
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) I would think not. If they're both in first and Dunn was having a good enough year that they'd consider moving him anyway, the fanbase would never forgive them for "white flagging" like that. As much as the fans have hated Dunn, they probably would forgive the Sox brass in this one case.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) Sitting behind 3B and being able to watch Eaton size up the cutoff and positioning of Longoria was great. It was a very calculated and aggressive play. Is it hyperbolic to say we haven't had a play like that since winning the WS? Can you remember a player that smart and aggressive? Oh we may have gotten lucky with the 3B coach waving a guy in ill-advised but that Eaton play was special.
  11. They say pitching and defense wins games, so when do the Sox start to plummet? It seemed the bullpen wasn't quite as bad against the Rays.
  12. I enjoyed his interview after the last game on mlb.com. Seems like a confident guy who has a clue what he is doing. I don't know if he calls the pitches, but seemed to understand why the starter had a good outing, etc. Him not being an automatic out has helped the offense greatly or so it appears anyway. Somebody might do a numbers study and say he hasn't been valuable at all.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) I'd be shocked if we werent sellers at the deadline. Adam Dunn could net us some serious value for the future alone. If this is true, which I highly doubt, then trade Dunn for such value as soon as possible.
  14. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 03:30 AM) Man this is fun so far, we've played a s***load of games so far compared to Detroit Is that good or bad?
  15. Sox really did a nice job. We really b**** slapped that team. Nice to see a team probably happy to get the hell out of town. Sox never quit, hit the bleep out of the ball. Got decent to good pitching. Great series. I love that double by Semien. He isn't hitting for high average, but on occasion he just smashes the ball. Love to see our balls sailing over opposing outfielders' heads. 3 of 4 vs. a good team and we really abused Price in that one inning. Had to shellshock him.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) Ask and thou shalt receive. What are you talking about? That quote doesn't settle the bet. I said we could contend (win the division, OK) if we had Reed. That would bolster the bullpen and we could win the mediocre to lousy to pathetic division. What are you guys talking about??
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) Hmm, that reads a lot different than "If the Sox kept Addison Reed, they would win 90-95 games" Find that quote of mine and I'll buy you a beer someday. Never said that. Said we could win this crap division (if Sale was healthy as well) and got attacked.
  18. I got attacked on the boards for complaining about our wretched bullpen, saying otherwise the Sox could be contenders this year. So I would suspect everybody insists the team will be sellers, big-time sellers.
  19. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 05:15 AM) He's doing this in cold weather. It's crazy It's actually scary what he's doing in cold weather.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) That's my guess. I don't see how it can be anyone else. Hanson probably needs more time, and Surkamp just pitched yesterday. Say it isn't so. Anybody but Axe!
  21. Carroll was great. Abreu amazing. And I was very impressed with Eaton's heads up play coming home to score. Our team didn't do that s*** last year. It shows you it's not always the manager's fault when a team sucks. You've got to have some grinders and gamers. You can't teach what Eaton did in scoring there. DeAza for instance could never do what Eaton did in hustling home for a big run!
  22. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 05:27 AM) Just watching the movement on his pitches and the way he goes after guys, he's for real I think as a legit back end rotation starter You think so? That would be awesome.
  23. Can Caroll keep it up? What an effort. Abreu having 31 RBI is just sick. His home runs are reminiscent of the steroid era. Can he keep this up? He is amazing. That blast to left was a towering homer.
  24. This is a huge rest of the game for Robin and Coop managing nine more outs with this pen. It's really up to the relievers' control/mindset. If they don't walk people they'll at least have a fighting chance to protect the 4-run lead.
  25. I got a feeling all three of the Rosenthal guys will be dealt. You got to wonder what you can get for Beckham, though. I mean two average prospects max? No offense to Gordo, but this is a minor transaction about now considering his career stats. The old saying: Second basemen are a dime a dozen. It could be a yawner of a trade. Lexi might bring something decent if he keeps hitting well. Maybe even if he drops off. He'd help a contender. Dunn? Heaven help the GM that acquires him if Dunn goes into a Dunn-like 1-for-20 with 14 strikeouts right after the team acquires him. I guess somebody could pick him up, but I don't see why a contender would want him. Should be very interesting to see what we get for these guys.
