  1. Not to be overly negative, but can you remember a series in which the Sox laid down and died, so to speak, and competed less than this past one? It was like three games of blah which is baffling to say the least. Do these guys even want the postseason or would they rather start fishin' and huntin' in a week?
  2. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) I've been to Gately on a Saturday afternoon before and had no problem. I understand Friday nights are a different animal, but I'm not super worried. Besides, among all the fancy cars the Loyola contingent will be bringing my car will not be labeled as a target. What teams still consider Gately Stadium its home? Why are they playing it there anyway?
  3. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) A manager has two jobs. There's the "x's and o's" on-field strategy. There is also the behind-the-scenes managing and guidance of the clubhouse, player's egos, player's personalities, and the overall psyche of the team. Guillen dropped the ball on the latter of the two last year, and that was with a very talented team. I think a very good team of players can overcompensate for a bad "x's and o's" manager. I don't think a very good team of players can overcome a bad "clubhouse" manager. All IMHO, of course. Good post. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) Greg, you repeatedly said Ozzie was manager of the year. I thought he would be as I thought they'd build on that 23-9 and win the division.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Not sure what you're trying to say here, but I really, really hope it's not putting blame on the kid. I didn't take it as he was blaming the kid, but all the others who had him go up there. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) It seemed like he was saying more than just the coach at fault, but I think it is fair the kid knew the conditions as well. It is very sad none the less and definitely gave everyone a negative view of the current ND coach and his staff. Yeah, he was scared going up there from his Tweet on the issue. I wish he would have been physically unable to go up there, throwing up in fear, etc. No reason that life should have been lost. Can you imagine losing a human life over a bad football team needing its practice filmed? And all the lives he'd have helped bring into this world with his future wife? And all the good he could have done had he become a doctor like his mom, etc? Over football? Geez.
  5. OK, it's pretty darn obvious Obama is going to win so let's look ahead. Do you folks see the economy and the employment situation of Americans better or worse in four years. What will the price of gas be? Do you think GOOD jobs will be a thing of the past? Can Obama get this thing going or are we all f***ed? Seriously.
  6. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 10:42 PM) I'm with milkman here. I dont condone it nor do I care that it happens, but it happens and thats that. Prison is a whole new world for the sick and twisted, not a world I want to be involved with in anyway (unless of course my buddy gets me in as a prison guard like he's been trying to do.) You must be a tough MF if u are gonna be a prison guard. Don't kick my ass, Second City Saint. I can picture Milkman and Saint kicking my butt someday. Don't take my posts too seriously where you guys pummel me.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) How can the White Sox still be at 75+% and the Tigers at ONLY 26.4% to make the playoffs with ONLY a 1/2 game lead right now? WEIRD. Scherzer's velocity is down quite a bit. Still only 92-93 but effective. Normally, he's in the mid 90's by this point in the game. Looks like he's starting to tire and have some control problems now. Escobar with the steal, in scoring position now. 0/3 with RISP. Threw Span a nasty slider to get him on a 3-2 count. Like me not talking about Ozzie anymore, I wish the board would not talk about these percentages the rest of this season and in the future. They are stupid. When you are 3 games up like we were at one point, all that means is a team like the Angels sweeps us and Detroit wins 3 and it's gone and the percentages meant squad. It's like those newspaper articles I used to read when a team falls eight games back in April. The writer would look up the record the team would need to win the division and it would be some insane winning percentage that never took in account the other teams' records. ugh.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 04:56 AM) It's an accident, but those scissor lifts usually have a sticker on them saying not to go up in winds over 25 MPH or so. A lot of people screwed up that day. Dr. Allison Drumm is the mother of the young guy who died. I know her and she is a fine person. That kid's death was the end of Notre Dame to me. There's no reason that kid should have been sent up there to film a goddam practice. That kid's life was taken away over filming a f***ing practice on a windy day. So damn sad. I hope they have a scholarship in the youngster's name or name a building after him or something.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 07:59 AM) So if they trotted out a bunch of high schoolers you still would have believed that Ozzie would take them to the World Series and win it? lol ok... I think watching Robin this season proves that you can second guess any manager. Can you honestly say Ozzie is any worse than Robin? Both managers made tons of moves that were second guessed in game threads. I happen to believe Ozzie is the best manager in baseball, but neither Ozzie or Robin can win without players doing their jobs.
  10. As a fan, I'm like the White Sox are playing ... dead. I can be rejuvenated however, and so can they. I think. ....
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 06:37 AM) You were the one who said the Marlins would win a World Series. People here said you were crazy. Now you say it was us who told you they'd win the World Series? Total BS. I said they'd win the WS cause of Ozzie. I knew nothing about their roster.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) What's so funny. U don't think he's getting replaced after one year do you?
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 05:02 AM) Well the excuse engine is probably getting warmed up. I figure that they are getting Hawk ready to start with the well we weren't supposed to be there crap next. The Angels sure are having no problem sweeping this supposed contender. This is kinda how I thought we'd finally play vs. KC in those 3 games; treating the Royals like the Angels are treating us, like a totally inferior team. We have to hope Cleveland plays like Cleveland in those games in the Cell and we somehow sweep.
  14. I hope next year has a different storyline at least. These four and five game mini winning streaks and losing streaks are pretty maddening. Who would have thought after the five-game win streak that the Sox would go back in the tank?
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) You have a cop out for everything don't you? I wouldn't call it a cop out. I knew nothing about Miami's roster. I trusted the people on here who said they had some talent. They're not going to can him after one season and he still might succeed there if it's possible for that franchise to succeed. I haven't even followed them. Has heath bell kept the closing job all year? Did he ever get his act together?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 04:57 AM) 0-7 with RISP. Complete collapse by the offense of late. Ventura has got to shake up the lineup. Hey, this is baseball. You can't devise a pep talk, you can't throw over a table, you can't shuffle the lineup. You have to stay the course, baby.
  17. Jared Weaver? Great. Four straight losses after a 5-game win streak. This team is psycho. Totally psycho.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 03:45 AM) Loyola lost to Dallas Jesuit in Dublin, Ireland, in week 2 by 1 point. That Dallas team had 4 BCS level commits in its senior class. Before this week I thought Loyola would win, although MC's big win on Friday may have changed my mind. I'm truly on the fence. It's going to be a great game. Do you have to worry about your car getting looted at Gately Stadium? Or is it safer now?
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 03:43 AM) Alexei doesn't need to find a power stroke. He's been very productive If that's true, then that's good. The key will be Paulie to become Paulie again after surgery and the Sox to make a deal for a good hitting third baseman who isn't a butcher in the field.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 03:38 AM) People are thrilled with Beckham on this site of late. He drew a walk last night, and there were a few posts saying how great he looked. It's nice to know we're set for the future with Beckham at 2B. He's hit well enough to be our second baseman. Next year's infield is a big question mark however. No third baseman right now, Alexei at short needs to find his power stroke, Becks at second and can Paulie rebound from surgery at first (I'm assuming surgery is forthcoming). DeAza has cooled off as a center fielder; Tank figures to get better and Rios appears to have found himself. At catcher, AJ probably won't hit 26-30 homers as he has this year. Starting pitching should be similar to this year, though we will have to find a stud to replace Peavy. Just replacing him with one of our many fill in guys of this year won't cut it. Lotta work for the new GM to do.
  21. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 02:55 AM) ND is boring. Good defense but we'll see how good it is actually is when they face a legit QB threat. I'm not high on the ND coach since that poor kid died in the tragic accident with the tower.
  22. Am I crazy or does a two-run Sox deficit seem insurmountable in the late innings of late, while a two-run Sox lead seems tiny? We need to play the Minnesota Twins some more to become a good team again.
  23. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 10:35 PM) Yes, I cover games, mostly in the northern suburbs. I'm on the Loyola beat, but I've covered a bit of other teams in the area as well. I don't think running that much is very effective to be honest. If you have Mount Carmel's talent and coaching you can run just about any system and be fairly successful. MC is one of the most consistent teams in the state and they had an amazing run in the 90s and early 2000s, but they haven't won a state title since 2003. I wouldn't say they've fallen off, but teams like Maine South and Wheaton-Warrenville South have passed them up. Heck, both of those teams beat MC in state title games. Neither of those schools is run-heavy and both have produced good college QB prospects. Even in the Catholic League Loyola went undefeated last year running 4 and 5 WRs all the time. So, basically, I don't think there's one best system. You have to have talent, disciplined players and good coaching. Thanks Danman. That makes sense. Is Loyola undefeated just like MC? Who do you pick in the showdown?
