Game Thread, No More "Silly Walks" Edition

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 05:25 AM) Watch a Tiger's game. Putting the ball in play is the best chance to beat them. Can Minnesota's no names (besides Mauer) beat the Tigers one game in Detroit this weekend? I'd be shocked if that was the case. No way Detroit is going to let Minnie off the hook like we do KC. It would be awesome, though, if the Twins somehow won one game and we can get one in Anaheim. All we had to do was win tonight and we'd likely still be a game up after the weekend games. Now it looks like a tie at best after this weekend. Would you all sell out for a tie after this weekend's games?? -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) From a Black Man to Mitt Romney: f*** You The link didn't work. I'd love to watch that. The previous tape of the gay serviceman was really good.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:37 AM) I honestly think it mostly has to do with a whole lot less people smoke nowadays then 6 years ago. Literally no one from the younger generations smoke anymore. Do college kids smoke? I know they smoke marijuana. That's back in. What about cigs? Hey college guys ... what's the smoking status of kids in the various college towns in Illinois?

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) The KC broadcasters I listened to the other nite, Ryan Lefebvre, Rex Hudler, and Joel Goldberg were dry as toast, bland as vanilla and in general bored me to tears. Seriously, is that what some of you want? Denny Mathews on Royals radio is OK just because he's so jaded by bad baseball that he's kind of entertaining in his monotone. He refuses to get excited. He had a beef with the team a few years back before they finally put him in the Royals Hall of Fame and while not critical of the Royals, he's monotone. He tells good stories, though. The rest of the Royals crew, especially Steve Physioc? They can cure insomnia. Physioc enunciates each word in a sickening way. He is very dull. Hudler equals dull. Goldberg horrific. Lefebvre is OK when he's with Denny.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:40 AM) I think the team is mentally weak, like many of the previous Sox teams. Look at some of the stupidity today. I have a sneaky feeling the best we do is a dead-heat tie with the Tigers and a playoff game in Detroit which I won't be watching. I'll watch it I guess if it's in The Cell. I'll watch all the real playoff games but not some dumb ass playoff game vs. Detroit that (I feel) we'd be destined to lose. I think the worst we can do is lose to the Tigers by a game or two. I mean would any of you be surprised if we get swept this weekend and they win all three? That'd put them up by one with a lot of baseball left. It's just inexcusable for the Sox to play such a sloppy game tonight with so much at stake. It's ridiculous. I know baseball is a funny game, but the pickoff? The out at home? WTF??? This game meant a ton to give it away. -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:26 AM) I think they lose 3/4 against the Rays. Then I think you are predicting no playoffs. Sox BTW are continuing that maddening trand of good Sox/bad Sox. Five game win streak ... now two on the other side of the ledger with a very tough series coming up. -

QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:22 AM) we lose 2 out of 3 maybe get swept That wouldn't be wise. We're not going to make the playoffs by losing series. -
Good, solid baseball for 9 innings?
greg775 replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Royals were trying to be the old Royals tonight. When Guthrie fielded that bunt and threw it away, they were giving us a blowout victory. We squandered a few more chances that inning and the next inning to expand on the lead. When it stayed at 3-0 we were destined to lose the game. This game begged to be blown open early. Sox have had way too many close games. It's required all these dorky pitching moves by Robin from the sixth inning on and the Sox have found a way to lose like you said by "not playing good solid baseball for nine innings." -

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:18 AM) Does Robin even deserve manager of the year at this point? Yes. If Sox win the division outright. I wouldn't give it to him if we have a one-game playoff vs. Detroit, though. -

QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:14 AM) let me know how that goes,we lose 4out of 7 tigers will mop KC and we can remember this night the season went away!!!!!! All the losses to KC have been equally painful. We lose 2 of 3, 3 of 4 or get swept by them regularly. Tonight's is no different from the other losses to them. I will say if the Sox find a way to win the division (and avoid a one-game playoff with Detroit) in a year they lose 12 games to KC, Robin does deserve manager of the year. It's almost impossible to lose that many games to a division team and win the division. -

If the Sox starters could actually pitch seven strong innings like they are supposed to, we'd be a lot happier when we play KC. When we start bringing in relievers in the sixth ... look out. -

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 04:05 AM) Can we just try something else against this team? Obviously whatever the hell it is we're doing isn't working. Let's just play our sunday lineup against the Royals every time, give our veterans a rest. They're not getting the job done any way. We don't have to worry about that until next season. At least I can watch games again in their entireity now that we're done with KC and Detroit. If we have to play Detroit in a one-game playoff though, I'll skip that one. A playoff game against Detroit would not be fun IMO. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:54 AM) Ha. Sox should have scored more in the early innings. Congrats to greg, he won his World Series. Yeah. I'm born and raised Sox fan who grew up on the South Side and went to Brother Rice. But I'm a huge Royals fan. I have spent 10 years on this board just to fake that I'm a Sox fan. I hope you have a better read on people than you have shown regarding me. Sox don't deserve to make the playoffs after losing 12 times to KC. It's that simple. Thing is neither does Detroit so may be best of the worst prevail. -

QUOTE (Skipper @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 03:07 AM) Yes, and also the one who gave up the bomb to Butler to tie the game. Oops. That was a bomb, my bad. I was so shocked we got out of the inning tied that I mistakenly gave Nate props. -

LOL. Whoever said momentum doesn't exist in baseball ... the Royals have all the mojo in this game right now. Is this the inning they bust it open? We've seen this game before. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 02:59 AM) PLEASE LOOK AT JONES' splits, lefty vs. righty. Sometimes I think Ventura just wants to make this last month interesting on purpose. Lucky that ball didn't go out or Jones would actually be on the hook for a possible loss. I'm sick of our starters not being able to get through six f***ing innings. Nice job by Jones, though. -

Any player in the minor leagues could have crushed that pitch that Giavattella blasted.
