  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) De Aza 7 Youk 5 Wise 8 PK14 3 Rios 9 AJP 2 Tank dh Alexei 6 Beckham 4 Sale 1 I simply love D Wise but it's hard to take our team seriously with him batting third. I'd even put whiffmeister Tank third if we had to. WTF.
  2. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) Exactly lol, as far as Chicago is concerned, Baseball season is over and Football season has arrived. If the Cubs were a game up in the division at this point ... wow. Wouldn't it be crazy?
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) I would say latino fan revenue I will resist any temptation to chime in the discussion.
  4. I didn't want to start a new thread, but I had a question. How is Chicago handling the Sox being in contention? Is this big news? Do people just laugh it off since KC has mopped us up and in head to head games with Detroit the Sox get owned? Do people believe this team is a contender? Is the city gripped over the Sox? I mean as mad as I get at them, they are three weeks from being in the playoffs if all went well and then all bets are off. A world series at that point is the goal and as we know they don't come around often. My question is ... Does Chicago care???
  5. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:16 PM) Exactly. Everyone always talks about the benefits of pitching with confidence. Against guys like Cabrera, Pujols, Trout, Konerko when healthy, pitchers justifiably feared these hitters, couldn't muster any sort of real confidence, and tightened-up and nibbled which screwed with their control and hurt their stuff. Half of the damage was done by these fearsome hitters the moment they set-up in the batter's box! Unfortunately, it's difficult not to be a Debbie-Downer about this, but I suspect that the reasons PK isn't the REAL PK isn't because he's slumping or out of synch. It's because he's hurt. Hurt at the level where he can swing a bat, but not with nearly the talent and ability a healthy PK brings to the plate. And it's circular because by playing hurt (only he knows how limited he really might be right now) he's also keeping himself out of synch as well. But it all starts with being hurt. Everything I see in his set-up, his swing, and his "need to cheat on a pitch" suggests that he's currently damaged goods. If this is so, then we're simply not going to have that REAL PK back this year, no matter how much we hope we do. Now how about some of the non-damaged hitters step-up and take their game up a notch or two? For El Capitan??? Hawk flat out said it the other night. He said Hawk was hurt. It's pretty sad the writers can't let us know what is going on. Does Cowley write about the Sox any more? He seems to have gone away. He could at least have gotten to the bottom of this.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 06:59 AM) I see all these people who have NO CLUE what it's actually like to teach in an "inner city" dysfunctional school...it's typical. My blood pressure went up 10 points the first year I was in this environment. The stressors are pretty incredible and nearly constant. What is it like?
  7. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 04:59 AM) Too high of a risk. He might get hurt again. $$$ per appearance has been a lousy value. I don't know if this is more of a NL thing, but they really back load the contracts of pitchers. It reminds of NFL contracts except those often get renegotiated or they cut the player. Look at Lincecums numbers this year for $14M. Just wait to see Mark Bs numbers in the final year of his contract. Waste of money. If they could sign Liriano dirt cheap, I would like to see if Coop can fix him in Feb. I would keep Youk at the expense of Peavy. The Sox always seem to come up with pitching. If they don't keep Youl, they only option they have at 3rd is Robin becoming player/manager. Good points again about the NL contracts especially. I think I'd cut bait with Liriano. He's so inconsistent it has to be mental. I wonder if he wants to be fixed. Seems like the kind of guy who just goes out there and whatever will be will be, oftentimes it's bad. I am assuming a lot, thought, but I'm not impressed. Does he have closer stuff for an inning or could he be a setup guy and we could let Thornton go?
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 04:36 AM) Just pitch everyone in order, get all the wins you can. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 04:42 AM) Ditto, wins are wins, we need them, sweep minnesota and get the swagger going. Greg the Plumber approves both these messages.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 04:56 AM) Big time agreed, no such thing in baseball as momentum(sorry fathom, respect the hell out of you but hate how much you use that word). What do you call it then when KC and Detroit get on a roll vs. a team like the White Sox? Momentum is the kind word for it. I mean it hasn't really mattered what the matchups are, the Sox are in a death spiral against both teams and yes, I'd think it's momentum. Remember that series in Detroit how the Sox blew it in the third or fourth inning and it seemed to carry from there through the rest of the series? How can you guys not call that momentum? Or KC winning the last 3-4 series vs. the Sox. When the losses come night after night fast and furious, I think it's fair to call that "momentum." On the flip side they say "momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher." Again ... how do you account for the rash of losses? We've had some decent starting pitchers going. I think momentum exists.
  10. I'm surprised this lasted the whole week. I thought everybody figured it'd be a day or two max. The Sun Times wrote: "The union is organizing a huge rally at noon Saturday in Union Park. Depending on the state of talks, the rally could be a victory celebration or a show of force in the union’s push for what it calls a “fair contract." I think it'd be in poor taste to hold a victory rally. What are we celebrating here, teachers? Kind of a selfish thing to do. Just shut up if you get the contract you want and resume teaching on Monday. What kind of example are you setting for the kids here if you have some stupid victory rally?
  11. How did the ambassador die? What are the details? A bomb? Or stabbing or ?? Saddens me.
  12. Should I play Griffin III over Eli Manning or was last week a fluke?
  13. That game sucked. The closeups of Cutler and Marshall brooding were alarming. And the Bears losing their cool getting in the face of the Packers play after play when down by 20 was embarrassing. Forget this game. On to the next one.
  14. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 11:16 PM) Not at all. I understand that going into the game on 9/13, we're in first place, a game up on the supposedly mighty Kitties. So-called experts aside (most of whom are horrible baseball analysts and afflicted with the traditional East Coast bias), I personally thought the Sox would be a 6-12 game over .500 team. And that's what they are. It's a pleasant surprise (and just a a wee bit of luck) that this sort of winning percentage is keeping them in this year's pennant race. I think it's possible to be pleasantly surprised that we're still playing meaningful baseball, but still be disappointed that injuries, player decisions, inability to play competitively with the Tiggers and THE ROYALS(!!!), and various other factors have us with a one game lead (pending tonight's Sale-Verlander showdown) instead of the 6-8 game lead that we might have had. I understand that the .399 hitting Konerko, with power, was not going to be here all season long. But if we had statistical average Konerko this second half instead of "injured Konerko," then we'd have a bit more cushion than we currently have. We'd also have a bit more optimism that we're capable of the kind of winning percentage we're likely to need to win this thing in this final 20-game sprint. All things considered, great that we're in first right now, but things would look a lot brighter IF we had a non-injured Konerko, a non-injured Dunn, non-exhausted #1 and #2 starters in Sale and Peavy, and a manager who recognized that the time for experimenting with AAA and AAAA players is over and you should win this thing or lose this thing with your big league roster at this point of the season. Love the heart that this team plays with, but whether through injuries, roster decisions of the GM, or playing-time decisions of the field manager, we're frequently undermanned on the field right now. That's a pretty good post when you think about it.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 01:26 AM) I've never seen Peavy fold. He may give up runs, but he doesn't fold. The only game that seemed fold-like was the Ohman game early this year against the Tigers and he was left in too long. I wouldn't mind seeing him with the Sox again next season, but you'd think the Bosox or somebody else will overpay by a bunch. Peavy like Paulie was great the first half. He's been human the second half and not near as effective. I still would like him in the rotation. Obviously losing him will mean losing a ton of innings, but you would think the Sox can't afford him.
  16. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 03:21 AM) Thread over. But in all seriousness it makes sense. Skip a start. Give him some needed rest. At this point we need a win. I think it would be just as big a W if he could get it tomorrow vs. Minnesota. If Sale could shut down Minnesota and we win, 5-0, and Detroit loses, that's just as huge as whatever might happen Monday.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:02 AM) Stop being so doom and gloom Greg. It's annoying as s***. I'm just pissed off at the team for its play vs. Det and KC. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:11 AM) HES BACKKKKK....LOL you were tolerable for awhile there greg, I was starting to like you man...then you drop all this on us. There is (probably) not a better pitcher in baseball at home than Chris Sale. Verlander is no bueno on the road. I dont give a single f*ck about momentum. I wanted Justin vs Sale...bad...I'd wet myself if both teams pushed em back. I'm just pissed at the Sox for their s***ty play vs. KC and Detroit. Do you realize how many games we'd be up in the division if we had a just a decent record against both teams or Detroit only?? Just has pissed me off beyond belief. I figured why not just pencil in any game aginst the two as a loss?
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:48 AM) One can hardly wait to see your posts the next time we face KC. Will they be even more pessimistic than against DET, since MOST of America actually believes the Tigers are a better team than us, right? I'm definitely penciling those in as 3 losses, that's for sure. I figure we have four guaranteed losses the rest of the way. We have to play red-hot baseball in the other games to be in the postseason.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:34 AM) Floyd vs. Fister is so much worse than Sale vs. Verlander. I can't believe you are concerned with individual matchups vs. Det. They don't matter. It's best we don't play Detroit for a few days at least. See if we can build the lead up again. We weren't going to suddenly beat Verlander tonight. Now if Sale can do what's expected of him, beat Minnie, and Cleveland takes care of Detroit, we could be cooking again.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:25 AM) Still not sure how to feel. Did we dodge a bullet, or we just missed a great chance to knock out Verlander, who's been REELING on the road since the middle of July? It's not like Fister or Scherzer are good match-ups for us either this year. Or Porcello, until this past Monday. And it breaks the trend of 3 series in a row (against DET) either having surrendered the lead (from 1 1/2 up to 1 1/2 down, 3 up to tied). Both times, the Tigers collapsed afterwards and gave us back 1st place. We can't count on that happening over and over again, can we? Yes we dodged a bullet. We would have lost tonight. Now at least we have a chance of a different scenario happening.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 02:23 AM) Now they miss Sale. Who cares? Does it really matter who we pitch against them? I'd rather pitch Sale against Minnie who he will be favored to beat at least.
  22. Thank God it got rained out. Now there's a chance we can do what happened before, win a series vs. Minnie and have Detroit get swept. If we can have a 3 game lead by Monday, that loss won't mean squat. Still no guarantees, but I feel better about going to Minnie with a one-game lead than a tie. If somehow we just win all three in Minnie and Detroit loses all three against whoever they are playing, I'd rather just forfeit Monday's game and get on with it. GO SOX!!!
  23. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Somehow it is when you wear that White Sox uniform and your name is not Juan Pierre. Kite, you have great posts. You should post early and often. I'm serious.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) No one has said he's an ace. His salary is irrelevant. He had major surgery. Most on this board, even the people complaining about him would have to admit he's exceeded their expectations. He's a good pitcher. But is he a Mark Buehrle? f*** no.
  25. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) Dayan needs to get his swing under control Somebody said the Big Hurt was on the radio and said Dayan would eventually make it but it "will take some time." Uh oh. I think Hurt realizes the value of drawing some walks and getting a clue at the plate if you want to make it big in baseball.
