GAME. THREAD. 9/13 Detroit @ White Sox
greg775 replied to Cerbaho-WG's topic in 2012 Season in Review
Please, please a rainout. Any chance of a rainout? I'm done with Detroit; ready for minnie series. -
Peavy is an OK pitcher, nothing special. He's worth the going rate for No. 3 starters, whatever those guys get on the open market. I guess to be fair he's a 2 or 3 starter. I happen to think he's more a 3. I'll be shocked if he gets huge money, but I guess Boston has the money to give him now.

I'm ready to lose our final game against Detroit and get on with the final couple weeks. Aside from the obligatory 3 losses to the Royals, the other games should be interesting. The question is can we overcome those 4 defeats? We'll probably have to play .700 ball in the other games. I wonder if Lopez and Olmeda are going to play tomorrow and Flowers? I guess it doesn't matter who Robin plays vs. Detroit and KC. Just get it over with and move on to Minnie.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 05:19 AM) LOL no, I just want to see the SOX put up a f***ing fight tomorrow. I might make a sign, haven't decided yet. You'll get on TV if it's a critical sign like "Hey White Sox ... are we in a pennant race or not?" Or ... "Pretend the Tigers are wearing Yankee uniforms." Or ... "White Sox, do you realize you would be 2 games up if you could somehow win today? Is that too much to ask?"
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 04:36 AM) Just another tease after being b**** slapped. Not really. I never got the least excited that we might tie it especially seeing Hudson trot to the plate for the final out. My gawd, really? Did we have anybody besides Olmeda to pinch hit? Hudson obviously had no chance. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 04:38 AM) Down 8-1 did you guys really think they were going to come back? Let's split this b**** tomorrow and put the Tigers back 2. I am going to the game and the SOX don't lose when I go to games. No. Of couse not. But I hate the be the bearer of bad news. No way we beat Verlander unless you are some magical good luck charm. Sox are very tight against Detroit and the Royals and frankly have no chance. It's just like the series finale in Detroit, a formality. However, once we get to Minnesota, it's anybody's guess what happens the rest of the season. Cause Detroit can't beat any team besides the White Sox these days.

8-6 loss. Epic fail. These games are in the Cell. One game up for one more day.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 04:22 AM) Wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world. He wouldn't get fired though, he'd just resign. Did he sign a 3 year deal? You have to wonder if he's enjoyed this or not. If he quits, I guess it'd be the same candidates again. None of those guys excited me. I'd rather keep Ventura than Alomar or Martinez. I'd be OK with Big Hurt replacing Robin or Steve Stone. Or give it to Cooper and let Mr. Ego manage a year.
-
Maybe Robin hates KW and Jerry and wants Myers to get paid.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 04:14 AM) I feel like we are getting teased. I think it's called choking. The players choke when it's close. Detroit moves it to 8-1 and the heat's off and we score four. Now it's close again and we won't hit the rest of the way.
-
I'm thinking a lot of this is mental. Once it gets to 8-1 and the pressure is off the Sox score a bunch. Now that it's a three-run game and we technically are back in the game, the hitters will be all tight and fail again.
-
We'll never know if Youk would have done that last night. Thanks Robin.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 04:00 AM) There are NO free agent catchers that are any good. It's either Flowers or a trade. The rest of the money has to go to replacing Peavy, 3B and the bullpen (possibly, if they trade Crain or Thornton). Or we can tear things up by dealing Ramirez, Rios or Dunn. The last two won't get us much talent back...Ramirez might, but we don't have a replacement for him that's close to ready. Sanchez doesn't profile as a major league SS. Better off at 2B or 3B. This was a frustrating season because Detroit underachieved except in head-to-head games against the Sox. It was our chance to win the division. Detroit isn't going anywhere and the Sox will have wasted career type years from Rios, AJ and one of the best first halves of Paulie's career. Also Peavy was very good early. Obviously we couldn't overcome the injuries to Danks and Floyd and the loss of Buehrle in the long run to go with the continued s***tiness of our main relievers Thornton and Crain. Still with Detroit sucking we needed to win the division this year cause Detroit probably will wake up and play to its potential next season. Sox have a lot of work to do on the roster this offseason after losing yet another starter in Peavy and a third sacker in Youk.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:56 AM) The handling of this bullpen is embarrassing. Matt Thorton better be injured. The hitting is still the overriding issue. All that bullpen tinkering really helped tonight. We're only down 8-1. Just pick a f***ing reliever and let him pitch. This is embarrassing lately.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:52 AM) No matter what, this has been a positive year. In no way am I giving up on the year, even if the Sox lose tomorrow. Far too many strange things have happened with the Tigers losing to inferior opponents this year, and they also have to face the red hot A's next week. Plain and simple, the Tigers are a HORRIBLE match-up for the Sox this year. What kind of a matchup are the Royals vs. the Sox?
-
LOL. Two nights ago somebody was posting all the negativity on the Detroit message board. Now after the predictable bounceback beatdowns, Detroit is the division favorite again.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:48 AM) He is also forgetting that the Latin love of his life used to play matchup like he was Larusa. Bulls***. He didn't do this and Robin didn't do this until the second half when he decided to overmanage. You don't win divisions without set up men who can, uh, set it up for the closer. We've always had guys who had roles in the bullpen dating to the days Joe Morgan proclaimed it the best in the land.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:47 AM) It doesn't work? Lefties are 0-20 vs Veal this year. I understand what you are saying about Veal, but this lefty/righty s*** is overdone by Robin and he wasn't doing it earlier this year. You've got to have setup guys who can go a full inning. I don't care if it's Veal instead of Thornton but this is bulls***. Earlier in the year Robin kept his starters in too long arguably. Now he's in love with this one batter crap. After tomorrow the race is tied again.
-
QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:44 AM) Well, a reliever and Reed are going to have to not give up any runs. On a scale of 1 to 10, how confident are you of that happening? There's no way in hell we're beating Verlander. Once again we blew our chances to be up by four games heading into this series.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:44 AM) If Donnie Veal wasn't God's gift to LOOGYS, then I might agree that Ventura had no other better options. Aren't you sick of this kind of baseball rather than Thornton or Crain pitching a FULL inning once in a while? This is bulls*** lefty/righty madness and it doesn't work.
-
At least attendance sucked during this bizarre season.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:33 AM) Where the f*** was Veal? Septimo has shown that he's terrible in close games. Not only will they lose tonight, but now they have to use an inferior starter this weekend instead of Santiago. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 03:33 AM) decisions? Any reliever we bring in seems to blow. Yes! You guys that love to second guess Robin for all these bad decisions regarding relievers much be in heaven the past few weeks as he brings in reliever after reliever until he runs out of them. It's boring, awful baseball and if we keep doing this in his second year as manager I expect us to finish last. Our bullpen SUCKS! It's not the way to win games bringing in tons of relievers. The bodies change but one thing is constant - ONE OR TWO OF THEM FAIL every night! Crain and Thornton suck as well, but we need them to pitch A FULL inning once in a while and not this lefty/righty crap with these god-awful relievers!!!
-
Season is too long. Robin is in love with the lefty/righty, bring in a ton of relievers crap.
-
Remember earlier this year when our starters went deep into games and we didn't use a zillion relievers a game? I'm sick of it. Just have Detroit get the three wins over with and on to Minnesota please!!
-
Who does Detroit play next after mopping us up while we hopefully are winning the Twins' series?
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 01:36 AM) Man it feels like we are watching the same game night in and night out Yep. No offense except for solo home runs. Decent starting pitching again but not deep into the game (cept for Q the other day).
