  1. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 03:07 AM) Yeah I don't know about this. I understand Humber is awful, but Sale & Peavy need to be pitching effectively down the stretch and I think extra rest will allow that to happen... Cmon, this isn't equal opportunity everybody gets a trophy Little League. We're trying to uh, make the playoffs and not have to play in that stupid ass one-game wild card game. Six starters is too many, especially when one of them is named Humber. THANK GOD common sense has prevailed and we get five starters, not six. It's put up or shut up time and we need Peavy and Sale to come through, not sit on the bench getting extra rest.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) You can die in a car wreck every time you drive, cant live afraid. Yeah, I went to 5 p.m. Mass today, place was packed. Couldn't help but think how anybody with some guns or teargas and a baseball bat could do a lot of damage. I think we are at the stage people need to be more alert at their surroundings wherever they go. Of course, if you saw something suspicious and tried to stop somebody from killing people, you'd probably be arrested if your suspicisions were wrong and the guy had no gun.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) lol. fathom (who I love) and cali both said the sox wouldn't score today like 5 minutes ago. I understood him. Sox immediately scored after he said that.
  4. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) I hope we can trade Beckham and Tank this off season. I want players with a high OBP who can also play great D I'd say Beckham is done, but they have to give Tank another year. His overall stats are not great this year, but he has shown star potential.
  5. Ton of Rangers fans at the Royals game today. Looks like they now travel well the Red Sox nation and Yankee nation.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) We have two starters in Q and Sale who look to have hit the wall. It makes complete sense right now. The problem is that Hudson is an absolutely waste of a roster spot. I'd prefer Humber take a vacation.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) Bullpen will be fine, but keeping 6 starters on the roster has thinned out the bullpen big time. Six starters is a horrible idea for a team in a pennant race.
  8. I just read an article from a major news outlet about the impending landslide election. Don't you think the liberal media would do whatever it could to keep Romney from making this a race? I think Romney is disgracefully bad candidate, but still you can see how the liberal media would never let their man lose. Mention the world "landslide" enough and any Romney supporters out there will just stay home that day and not even bother to vote.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 06:58 PM) And I don't want to hear about how someone in the temple should have been packing to return fire. I wonder if this is the start of a ton of these murder incidents? Anywhere we go we're at risk of getting killed pretty much. I guess a ton of sickos or violent people with agendas don't care about spending the rest of their lives in jail or dead. Is this pretty much the start of the end of society? You could be anywhere? Arlington Park? A Sox game? Cub game? Church? Mall? And you could be killed.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) I hate humanity. Me too. That about covers it. AP says six people killed? Damn, this is another horrific crime.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) I find it so sad that people believe that without punishment to the football program, that crimes will continue to be committed at other universities. That people at universities will see Penn State and say, well we would do the same thing tomorrow if they left the football program alone. Really!? Guilty people are behind bars, their reputations destroyed, careers lost, all on a personal level. But that isn't enough for a high ranking university official to react. Somehow without innocent people losing their jobs and their futures hurt, it could happen again? I don't see it. I don't see another university thinking they would risk jail, ending their career, and the rest, as long as the football program would be spared. Balta works at a university, how far would you go to protect the football program? Would you go to jail for it? Does it really take destroying the football program to have you do the right thing? I was talking about this with a guy who works at University of Kansas. We were shooting the breeze and I said, if you saw rape in a sports facility, what would you do? He said, "I would go see the athletic director immediately after breaking up the act." I said, "What if the AD said 'Thank you I will handle it, take care.' He said, 'Good question. I don't know what I'd do.' It will happen again.

    TV news is dead

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 05:17 AM) People watch stories like that. Seriously. It makes them love their pets more. Really? I thought it was kind of bush league to put a story like that on KC TV news. There has to be some real news that might interest people. I figured it was out of desperation with TV news on its last legs in KC.

    TV news is dead

People correctly I guess say newspapers are dead. What about TV news? I rarely watch TV newscasts, but on KC TV news just saw a news item. A dog ran away off the porch and was hit by a car and died. That's it. It was right smack dab in the middle of KC TV news. Now Kansas City may be a cowtown to some, but it is a pretty big city. For them to put that story on ... my gawd, TV news is dead.
  14. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) I guess I"m just a pessimist because I still find myself doubting the Sox make the playoffs....I think the idea that they would be bad this season was so ingrained into my fandom that I've had a tough time recognizing that this team could be, or is, for real. This morning I read KW's quote about Liriano and how they'd identified some very easy fixes to get him to keep the ball in the zone. I love watching Liriano pitch...loved the deal...and am excited to see how dominant he can become for us. Then this afternoon I started thinking about our potential rotation heading into the playoffs. Guys, we could be looking at a very special postseason. Now I know Sale and Quintana's lasting power is a bit in question. I know Jake could break down anytime. I know Liriano is still somewhat of a question mark being we haven't gotten to see what kind of results Coop can get. I know Floyd is a bit of a mystery. We have 3 starters with ERA's under 3.05. Liriano, if things go as planned, can easily make that mark as well while pitching in a Sox uniform. FOUR AL starters in a single rotation with ERAs at or below 3?!?! We've seen teams head to the postseason with good rotations but the Sox rotation has the potential to shutdown the competition in a series once you remove Humber and Floyd from the mix. I'm not sure there's a better rotation in baseball with the possible exception of a healthy Halladay, Hamels, and Lee trio. If we can stay strong and win this division while keeping our pitchers healthy and fresh, I really think we step into the postseason as, dare I say it, favorites? If ... if ... if. I say the odds are 50-50 we make the playoffs at best. The Tigers still arguably will win the division that leaves the dreaded double wild card with some high money franchises dare I say it? Favored to make it over us as well. The way our pitching sets up will mean nothing in a one-game wild card matchup.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:44 AM) And it's as straight as a Billy Koch 2003 fastball to Carl Crawford. Watching Blackburn or Greinke, it's amazing the difference in how their pitches move compared to Matt. For whatever reason, I think Ventura's going to end up trusting Myers more in the end. If not for AJ throwing the ball down the line because the baserunner was in the way in the Twins' game, he wouldn't have any negative results so far with the Sox. I think Myers would have lost anyway. He gave up a hard hit single to lead off the inning which put him behind the 8 ball.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:40 AM) Player development takes a very distant back seat to post season baseball. In August and September that shouldn't even enter the discussion for a right-thinking franchise. Laugh all you want about Pierre, but slot his .381 obp behind De Aza and the lineup becomes more formidable. I can't believe there are fellow Pierre lovers on here. It's surprising me.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:34 AM) Honestly, I'd love to have Pierre on this roster right now so he could start a few games a week against tough RHP and to provide speed off the bench. However, I don't think the Sox would be interested in him again. I don't see why we need to add anybody else. On paper we have the talent. It's time we win series after series. No excuses. Just win series.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:28 AM) I know you'll get blasted on here for saying that, but I'm beginning to agree with you. Viciedo just doesn't bring enough to the table against RHP right now. As for the bullpen, I wish Ventura had more confidence in letting Nate Jones start an inning. Two straight games where he left the starting pitcher in way too long and both times resulted in a Pujols homer. Viciedo has so much raw hitting ability. It's frustrating that he isn't even better than he is. When he gets hot he's a thing of beauty to watch. He hits the ball so hard when he hits it. You almost have to keep playing him day after day year after year and see if he becomes more consistent.
  19. It's a tough loss when you waste two Youk homers. The guys let him down tonight, couldnt complete the deal.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:09 AM) Boston didn't release Lillibridge. They traded him to the Indians. He gets traded a lot. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:10 AM) nah, it's classic thornton. throw a high change to a guy when you're 3-2, 2 out, instead of your best pitch (aka, the fastball). Thornton is a skinner version of Ohman. He's unreliable IMO.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:01 AM) We need one that can play the IF. Should the Sox have picked up Lillibomb after Boston released him?
  22. The bottom of the 10th stunk. Sox hitters were pretty lousy. Matt Thornton is blah at best. Mediocre.
  23. I'm not a big Matt Thornton fan. His pitches sometimes are fast, but they often scream, 'hit me.' I wish we'd won it in nine.
  24. Great job, Crain. We need to do what the Twins did to us in the bottom of the ninth. Score in about one minute elapsed time.
