  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Sometimes megabuck pitchers earn their paycheck. When? Even guys like Cliff Lee are inconsistent. I guess Buehrle is earning his so far, but his team is sucking so it doesn't matter too much.
  2. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) Free agent after the World Series. 2013's team is going to be interesting with lots of decisions to make. Peavy's option at $22 m, Youkilis at $13 m, Meyers at $3 m, and Liriano a free agent as well. Sounds like the Sox will have to win this year for any of those guys to come back. Is Hudson's option ripped up since he left San Diego? I'm not opposed to dealing Floyd if it comes with some prospects to refill the system. But that sort of deal would defeat the Liriano acquisition and the back up plan to start him in the 5 man rotation if Danks has surgery. Bottom line, the White Sox are all in this year without worrying about repercussions for next year. No way they'll give Peavy that kind of money. I'd say no way they will give Youk that kind of money and no way will Liriano re-sign. Do you disagree? Sox aren't going to pay any of those three guys serious money. Peavy (injury risk); Youk (too old), Liriano (not good enough to get huge money).
  3. Great to see Paulie blast that homer tonight. Great to see his name second in league leaders every day in batting average. I still think he's lying about the wrist. He's a gamer. To flat out lie is kinda weird, though.
  4. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) California kind of skews the statistics there, though. FWIW, Timothy McVeigh was tired and convicted in Colorado. Did McVeigh ever talk publicly before he got sizzled? I wonder why that bastard did what he did.
  5. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:18 AM) The Escobar stuff is making me a bit sad after I was initially super pumped about the trade. The real question is does KW have one move left? Just think about Esky's throwing error tonight instead of the two hits. It will ease the pain. He's a good player but nothing special. Good luck to him except vs. the Sox!
  6. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:15 AM) Looking at the Tigers boards & Indians boards they seem to be brushing this trade off & saying it wasnt an upgrade at all. They must not know about the magic Don Cooper has worked in the past. Not to mention in his last 60 innings hasn't Liriano struck out about 70? His stuff is still there. It's probably his record. He's 3-10. That isn't scary. Hopefully Coop can fix him.
  7. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:09 AM) and i wouldnt trade floyd. we still need him. if they want , trade him in the offseason, not now I agree, but doesn't it seem like he's in the doghouse for good and that KW wants to dump him ASAP?
  8. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 12:32 AM) Sports in general are out of control in this nation. Adults get in fights at kiddie sport events. I don't get the whole college worship mentality. It's monopoly that oil execs envy. Ever heard of a college that said they were going to drop tuition 10% for the nest year? Never. The worship mentality is pretty sick. You win a national title at a hoops factory school or a football factory school and you are god. KU basketball is the only thing people care about or talk about in Lawrence, Ks. The team is about to go on a European tour. People actually care about the games they'll be playing in Europe and they are against a bunch of bums putting on jerseys in Zurich. Kentucky basketball I'd assume is the only thing people care about in Lexington; Oklahoma football in Norman; Alabama football in Alabama; it's pretty amazing and pretty sick. Wow our seven day forecast on our TV here has 97 as the coolest day of the upcoming seven. It's been between 95 and 100 every day for about 28 straight days now. This state has turned into Las Vegas.
  9. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:05 AM) at this point you better get something ridiculous if you give up Gavin...can't see it right now. You're putting an awful lot of pressure/depending on Humber. And you DO NOT send Quintana to the bullpen...PERIOD. You are right, would be very dumb to mess with the success story that Quintana is. He must remain a starter.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:19 AM) KW telling everyone on this board to STFU. 3 amazing trades, Big Donkey and Peavy coming into form, Rios bouncing back. The guy may have known what he was doing. Where's greg? Right here. Just heard of the trade. These are the kind of trades I like again. Where we give up guys that are not highly regarded for name players. KW is proving this year it can be done. Is he trying harder? Perhaps. I'm glad he's doing it. Youk has been a godsend. I don't get as excited about trades as you guys do. Look at all the traffic on this thread. I tend to look at performance once we get the new players. But hopefully Liriano will be as good as Youk has been. It's obvious Floyd is getting dealt if anybody will have him for a decent offer and Danks is done for the year. So we need Liriano to pitch well. Amazing that Danks and Floyd were our two studs entering the year and both are likely gone now. What a wild season. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:26 AM) I know as a Sox fan this may be biased, but KW has secured executive of the year with his acquisitions of Youk, Myers, and Liriano. We've lost literally nothing of importance and picked up 3 key pieces to fill enormous holes on our team. No veteran presence in the pen, let's go ahead and snag Brett Myers for a couple marginal prospects. A giant hole at 3b currently filled by a developing player with major health issues, let's trade a utility player not doing s*** and a AAAA pitcher for a 3-time All Star 3b who is still young enough to make an impact (and has). Danks is hurt and Humber is pitching like s***, let me pick up a dominant lefty starter with hella potential for another utility guy and a scrub minor leaguer. KW is god. It's official. I love this deal. I really hope we can sign Liriano to an extension....he's getting back to where he needs to be. Wow. You are excited. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:58 AM) I would not start Liriano against the Twins on Monday. I would. Pitch him against his former team either Monday or Wednesday. I like those matchups of current acquisition vs. former team. Kudos to Esky tonight for a good final game in a Sox uniform. He looked spunky.
  11. Sox are sooo streaky. Now streaking on the good side of the ledger. It's amazing how bad this team can look in racking up defeat after defeat. And how good it can look playing like it has lately. There should be no complaining Sunday if we lose. At some point Texas is gonna beat the White Sox. Great series no matter what happens Sunday. Team should play very relaxed trying for the sweep.
  12. Humber looked pretty good. Nice victory. These wins over Texas are making up for some of the stinkers vs. crummy teams earlier in the year, that is for sure.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:47 AM) And that is why Gordon Beckham isn't in Charlotte. He's the best second baseman in the AL. If he could only learn how to hit.
  14. No harm no foul if Sox get Thornton out of there now or after this batter.
  15. This would be a big win if we hold on. Sox would quickly pick up two games recently lost head to head vs. the Tigers. Would be a very nice thing. Thanks to Toronto for continuing to be tough vs. the Central.
  16. I still don't know how baseball teams got in the business of awarding pitchers these mega-buck deals. The evidence is that the modern-day pitcher is going to get hurt. These millionaire owners confuse me in throwing multi year megabuck deals at pitchers.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) We'll be facing him next Friday or Saturday. Should be interesting, and great crowds next weekend. We miss Liriano by one game as he POSSIBLY starts this Sunday against CLE. REMATCH WEEK MON: De Vries vs. Quintana TUE: Blackburn vs. Peavy WED: Diamond vs TBA We're going to have to win those first two because Diamond has been super tough recently. I guess no matter what the prices, Sox fans will pack the Cell if they believe the team is in the race. It looks like right now and as of the last home series, they do believe there's a realistic shot at winning the division. This year is perfect proof of why the Sox can never completely rebuild if it means losing 90 or more games for a few seasons. Sox fans want to win or they ain't coming. They now are coming again.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) Football became too important in Happy Valley. Hopefully, these sanctions will eventually lead to more people realizing that some things are more important than PSU's football record. That is so true. College sports are out of control in so many places.
  19. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) In non 3rd world countries America probably has some of the stiffest penalties for criminals, compare us to our neighbor to the north for example it's so much lighter up there. He is going to be in prison for rest of his life. On a sidenote, the food in the federal prisons are actually not terrible. I was talking more about juries failing to convict in the high profile trials.
  20. The rich get richer, but I'm happy if they were trying to rob the Sox. I don't like the idea of giving up a lot for a guy we have ZERO chance of signing. It would have been ridiculous. If we want to trade some of the guys we'd have had to trade for Greinke, do so in the offseason or do so now for somebody we can get to stick around.
  21. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:42 PM) That's not what legal insanity is. Legal insanity questions the actor's ability to understand that the conduct is criminal. Usually it is reserved for cases where someone actually believes that they are doing something right when they commit the act. Interesting. I did not know that.
  22. Somebody please start a new thread when you find out the extent of DeAza's injuries if there are injuries sustained in that scary collision.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 04:44 AM) I hope its a dead arm. There were times on certain pitches where he seemed to be in some pain and kind of held his arm right next to his body. It actually reminded me of when I had a sublexation in my neck and the nerve was pinched shooting pain down my entire shoulder. I held my elbow right into my ribs. Not every pitch, but most where he was throwing harder. That's scary. If he did feel pain, I'd suspect we'll be hearing soon about a shutdown of Sale. I believe you when you said you saw what you saw. This is scary news.
  24. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) He'll end up in general population at some point in his life. It's a long time. If he's in a mental hospital he'll be with other patients, right? I mean they don't have solitary confinement in a hospital do they? Knowing the pussification of America, I am pretty positive he'll be ruled insane by the latest failure of a jury. It's the old argument, "You'd have to be insane to do what he did." I wonder if he'll even confide in his parents that he is sly as a fox and knows what he did and why he did it.
  25. What about Beckham and Lexi for Buehrle and Bonificio (sp)? Would the Marlins go for it?
